'09 MI DT William Campbell (Michigan Signee)

This would be an outstanding get, though I don't see us pulling it off. In fact, I wonder if we even throw an offer his way. We are looking good for Adams and what if Telfort really wants in? My personal opinion is that you make room for a William Campbell any day, especially with a rare DT specimen like he is. However, numbers are numbers and barring a decommit, it's just hard finding room for Campbell (assuming we would even have a chance).

Part of me got excited about Campbell strictly because he decommitted from them. Even if it's only for a week, he still decommitted from them. And that makes me like the guy. For a week or so.
Them that shall not be named. That's even better than Woody Hayes.

I forgot Adam Bellamy is also a DT, so Adams is 3,and Campbell would make 4.

I have to go with Wade on this one

It's never wise to set your sails of prediction contrary to the solid winds of prognostications of an esteemed BP guru like 45, and one of my personal favorites, I might add...thats tantamount to poster suicide. :)

Agree that Michigan is not going to take this lightly, by any stretch. Agree that Michigan would still have to be the strong favorite, and others, including Illinois & Miami, would have as good a chance as us, but...certainly don't think this is out of the question.

All I really care about is that we get Adams for sure! Thats A#1! I think he's a Buckeye, along with his dad, coming home, and thats a wonderful thing. And having the three that we would have w/Adams gives us a tremendous DT class, imo, probably number #1 DT class, too.

But Campbell did go to Gholston's high school. He's might have Gholston & Gholston's nephew talking him up, who knows. As far as an official offer, I don't think that tOSU or Campbell actually has to announce anything publicly if they don't want to, correct me if I'm wrong. Campbell doesn't have to state his school of choice until signing day, correct me if I'm wrong. And, if by chance its needed for precautionary reasons, Adams doesn't necessarily have to know about Campbell's offer, if necessary, correct me if I'm wrong, far fetched, I know. But, this is College football.

As far as making room, well, guys transfer, guys read the writing on the wall, guys take one for the team, etc. etc. Anything can and does happen in recruiting, we all see that. It seems as though, thats the least of the concerns. As they say, you MAKE room for a 5 star talent like Campbell. A hole plugger extraordinaire, a run stopper par excellence, in short, a real force inside.

Kids see that you can get to the NFL and even start in the NFL and not only not be a star in College, but not even start or even play. Brady, Cassel, etc. I understand that thats the extreme exception to the rule, but look how we've heard so much this week about USC's 'stable' of running backs and seemingly how content they all are with their role. This is a sales job I would like to see JT and staff aspire to, and I believe that they are well on their on their way toward that, given these last two classes.

I say, if we want Campbell....and Campbell wants to come, unlikely as it is, we have to go for it, stealth if necessary...as long as we get Adams in the process. Thats really all that matters.

If Michigan were taking this as seriously as they should this thread would not exist.

You're right Oh8ch, they never would have hired RR, could have cancelled the game with Utah, would have never hired a beast like Barwis to abuse their poor boys
[/sarcasm]

I don't know anything about Campbell, but reading about him harkens back a bit to Big Daddy, if that is the case, he'e look good in S&G.

Let me just say that Campbell should be priority #1 right now on the recruiting front. After watching the past two National Championship games and now last night's debacle in LA, it is painfully obvious that we need a big NT right in the center of our DL that demands 2 or 3 blockers, so that our LBs can actually operate without OL-men in their faces all game, and so that we can actually get some pressure on the QB without having to send the house.

bingo. Campbell is a force in the middle of the D-LINE and we need that badly. OSU staff play a trick to get Campbell and Adams

That would be wonderful news. A huge upgrade and definitely early playing time for both. I'm still wondering why we can't get the numbers and quality of DT's that we need to succeed. Given the play of the DT's the last few years, you really have to wonder....

Amen to that. Somebody in this thread said there isn't room with the current commits and their standing with Adams. Well, at this point, you find room. This team needs an infusion of BIG & NASTY in the trenches, and this guy has it. Get it done.

I don't think the staff has been targeting true interior tackles. They seem to like DEs that grow into DTs. They also seem to like 5 techniques that move outside occasionally- the atheleticism is intriguing with players like Mobley, Simon, and GG, but are they true anchors? OSU used to have anchor types in Pickett and BDaddy. I would like to see more offers go out to the type of interior DT that has never lined w/o his outside shoulder covered by an OG or OT in his life. Campbell appears to be that type of player. I think the staff has underestimated the difficulty involved in moving DLs inside. Notice the problem Worthington (6'7'') has with chip blocks when he engaged with the guy in front of him. Is there a true interior DL <5 technique on this roster besides Nader A.?

This can be addressed. Those guys are out there, and Campbell appears to be one of them.

Bucknuts.com - Buckeye Bits And Big Ten Tidbits

There has been message board speculation that the Buckeyes might be in the running for William Campbell. Campbell, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Michigan, originally committed to Michigan, then de-committed. He is planning official visits to USC, LSU, Michigan and Miami. Campbell told Bucknuts.com that he will take all five official visits, but has no idea who he will select for his fifth trip. When asked if he has heard from Ohio State since he de-committed from Michigan, Campbell said, "Not at all."
