'08 WV OL Josh Jenkins (West Virginia Signee)

he'd be an immediate player at FSU but how well would he be prepared for the NFL?

As much credit as Trickett gets, how many guys has he had drafted in the last 6-7 years? Plus FSU is a mess due to the academic scandal. Only coach Bowden could try and spin the cheating into a positive for recruiting.

I think Jenkins ends up at OSU and I think every remaining uncommitted prospect is catching on to playing for dramtics. Every year the subscriptions are sold at this time of the year as information is flying from every direction.

All-Americans considering Pitt
By Tricia Lafferty
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, January 3, 2008

The 6-foot-3, 282-pound Jenkins made a verbal commitment to West Virginia in October of his junior year, but reneged on his commitment last week mainly because former coach Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan. Jenkins reopened his recruiting and now lists Ohio State, Florida State, Pitt and West Virginia as his finalists.

Jenkins, who led Parkersburg to back-to-back state titles, said Pitt entered the picture mainly because it's close to home. He will visit Pitt on Jan. 18 and he said it would take an exceptional visit to sway him toward the Panthers.

"It's going to have to blow me away probably, so it'll be interesting if they do," he said.

For now, though, Jenkins is enjoying the bowl week festivities and getting a grasp on how his talent compares to the best players in the country. He said his biggest assets are quick feet and an ability to come off the ball.

"From playing in West Virginia, some of those players are not as good as in other states," he said. "I wasn't so sure where I was at until I came down here. Here, I'm not blowing anyone off the ball and put them on their backs and stuff. I'm not pancaking people all the time. I mean, it's hard. Everyone is so much stronger, so much faster."

Window dressing.
My take as well.

I see this as just part of makiing the mental adjustment to DI football...regardless where he goes PT will be a challange and there will always be big time talent pushing for PT in future classes..be that at OSU, WVU, or Florida.

Jenkins approves hiring
By DAVE POE POSTED: January 4, 2008 Save | Print | Email | Read comments

PARKERSBURG ? Josh Jenkins has good radar.

The Parkersburg High School lineman has a sixth sense when it comes to football-related matters.

Throughout his senior season at PHS, even though he had verbally committed to play football for West Virginia University, he kept telling the members of the Big Red coaching staff that Mountaineer head coach Rich Rodriguez was going to leave, which he did following his team?s collapse in its regular-season finale against Pittsburgh.

Jenkins used that same radar during Wednesday?s workouts for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Jenkins is in San Antonio, Texas, this week where he will become the first West Virginian to participate in the nationally-televised game at noon on Saturday.

While virtually every other member of the West and East teams was expecting Oklahoma to easily win the Fiesta Bowl on Wednesday night, Jenkins kept telling anyone who would listen WVU would win the game with its superior speed, which is exactly what happened to the tune of 48-28.

Jenkins not only liked what he saw, he particularly was impressed with who he saw, WVU interim coach Bill Stewart, who on Thursday morning signed a five-year contract to become Rodriguez?s permanent replacement.

?I think it is a great hire and all the kids like him,?? Jenkins told Scout.com on Thursday. ?I could see myself playing for Stewart. I wouldn?t be saying that if they hired (Central Michigan coach) Butch Jones. Coach Stewart takes pride in the program and is a great recruiter. He is a great person. He is very down-to-earth and we like each other a lot.??

The hiring of Stewart has Jenkins once again seriously considering West Virginia, even though he pulled his verbal commitment shortly after Rodriguez resigned.

?It puts them back up there with my top schools,?? he said, listing Ohio State, Florida State and Pittsburgh.

Jenkins will visit Florida State Jan. 11 and Pittsburgh Jan. 18.

I know this is not a popular view, and just my personal opinion, but it feels to me like Josh is looking for a reason not to come to OSU. Seems like he is scheduling other visits (Pitt) late in process to look for other options. Feels like he is scared of the competition of Shugarts, Adams and Brewster and while he likes those guys he doesn't want to compete against them to get on the field. We shall see what happens in early February :)

Not being mean but someone already reviewed; Adams, and Shugarts are tackles. Brewster should take over center whenever Cordle heads off to the NFL. Thats leaves JJ a place at guard which is where he projects.:)

Your being mean to me :) Maybe, I should have worded it differently. When you go to a top program like OSU (or Florida, USC, Texas,etc..) and face top competition it might be harder to see the field then at other universities. Seems like from some of his comments I have seen lately he wants to get on the field quickly and that might be easier at Pitt,etc... For some reason I just get a bad vibe from him but I could be dead wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Not trying to call you out on this view, BUT I have never understood this line of reasoning in regards to a recruit. If JJ was looking for a reason not to come to tOSU why did he make several unoffical trips (at his expense) to Columbus. Maybe you can explain it better so I understand, but IMO JJ decision comes down to this.

1) He can see the field faster at someplace other then tOSU and will go there.

2) He fits in with the rest of the Brew Crew and winning championships are more important the getting playing time early in his career, especially when he considers that with the small numbers Bollman brings in some early exposure is likely.

I know which one I would chose. We will find out what JJ thinks in a couple of weeks.

EDIT Sorry I posted this before your explaination. Seems we are really saying the same thing.

To me, it feels the other way around. He's looking to make him still seem open to other schools instead of a lock for tOSU. Like jwinslow said, this is all window dressing and nothing more.
