Josh Jenkins enjoys being at WVU

For the Daily Mail

MORGANTOWN -- Josh Jenkins, the heavily recruited offensive tackle from Parkersburg, said Tuesday at his first media interview that so far he's enjoying being at West Virginia University.

"I am working behind Jake Fignor (senior right guard), and I'm learning a lot," said the 6-3, 305-pound freshman who led Parkersburg High to back-to-back state Class AAA championships. He was Parade and USA Today All-America prep selections and three-time all-state lineman.

Jenkins said he wasn't really worried when thinking about college to choose. Ohio State, Florida State, Florida and other well-known football schools expressed interest in him.

He admitted that he didn't make the final decision about WVU until the last couple of days.

Finally, associate head coach and recruiting director Doc Holliday showed up at his doorstep in a WVU shirt, and he decided to cast his lot with the Mountaineers.

"He's a good recruiter who was recruiting me while at Florida," he noted.

"I picked West Virginia because I was raised here and my brother is here. So I didn't think that I would ever get homesick. I hope I can get a job in this state after I graduate and raise a family."

Jenkins dislocates kneecap in WVU win
By Mike Casazza
Daily Mail sports writer
MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia offensive guard Josh Jenkins dislocated a kneecap in Saturday's 24-17 victory over Rutgers, according to a source close to the football team.
Jenkins has been the No. 2 right guard since the season opened.
It's not clear how much time the true freshman will miss or if surgery is necessary. WVU Coach Bill Stewart and Mountaineer offensive line coach Dave Johnson did not return messages Tuesday afternoon.
By playing in just four of the five games, Jenkins would be a candidate for a medical redshirt if the injury were to keep him out for the remainder of the season.

MORGANTOWN - With Thursday night's clash with Big XII opponent Colorado University still in doubt, second-year West Virginia University head football coach Bill Stewart put the game's outcome in the hands of running back Noel Devine and a young offensive line that still was coming into its own.

Those decisions were just fine with former Parkersburg High School All-American Josh Jenkins, a sophomore starter at left guard.

"Noel is a special kind of running back," Jenkins explained following WVU's 35-24 win over the Buffaloes. "When coach Stew came over and told us that we were going to run the football right at them, it made us (the offensive line) feel like he had the confidence in us that we could get the job done and we didn't want to let him, or the team, down."

A feat Jenkins and the rest of the 'front five' accomplished when the Mountaineers put together a 14-play, 69-yard drive that not only ate up nearly seven minutes off the clock, but concluded with a Ryan Clarke 1-yard touchdown plunge to give the old gold and blue a 27-17 advantage.

WVU's Jenkins to miss season after knee surgery

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia left guard Josh Jenkins will miss this season after undergoing surgery on his left knee.

Jenkins was injured in West Virginia's spring game April 29 and had surgery July 5.
Trainer David Kerns said Wednesday that Jenkins' medial collateral ligament healed properly, but surgery was needed to stabilize the knee.

Kerns says Jenkins is eligible for a medical hardship waiver and should return for his senior season in 2012.
