IT’S THE ‘SHOE!

Ohio State’s Curtis Samuel and Michael Jordan did an amazing job of remaking an iconic commercial between NBA legend Michael Jordan and Spike Lee, who played the role of Mars Blackmon.

In the original, Mars is trying to find out what makes Jordan the best player in the world, and of course, it’s the shoes. So in asking Ohio State’s Michael Jordan what makes Ohio State the best program, Samuel asks about various accomplishments and accolades, but of course, it’s the ‘Shoe.

We'll let @CurtisSamuel4__ & @BigMikeJ73 rewind all the way back to 1989 for this one...

It's gotta be #TheShoe.

If the Buckeyes’ performance on the field against Michigan is as good as it was in this video, Saturday should be fun.

More than just bragging rights are on the line when the rivals square off in Columbus on Saturday afternoon.

Miss yesterday’s national picks while slamming home pounds of turkey and fixings? They are just as good when reheated today.

Last week ATS: 9-3 (5-0 National, 4-3 B1G)

Season ATS: 74-77-4 (30-34-1 National, 44-43-3 B1G)

B1G games (All games Saturday unless otherwise noted):

No. 16 Nebraska v. Iowa (-3) - Friday 3:30 PM EST - ABC

Right now Nebraska’s quarterback situation is a mess. Tommy Armstrong Jr. missed last week’s game against Maryland with a hamstring injury, while backup Ryker Fyfe broke a bone in his wrist and had surgery on Sunday. It sounds like Armstrong Jr. will start against the Hawkeyes, but who knows how long he’ll be able to go and be effective.

Iowa doesn’t have nearly as much to play for as they did last year, when they capped off a perfect regular season with a 28-20 win over the Cornhuskers. Last week the Hawkeyes avoided a letdown after their win over Michigan by beating Illinois 28-0. After Akrum Wadley did most of the work the week before against the Wolverines, last week LeShun Daniels Jr. ran for 159 yards in the win over the Fighting Illini. The two running backs each have rushed for over 800 yards this year, making them just the third pair in school history to rush for at least 800 yards each.

Even with the injuries, I still like Nebraska to score the victory over Iowa in this one. After a 5-7 season in his first year in Lincoln, Mike Riley has a chance to win 10 games and earn a share of the Big Ten West title with a victory. The Cornhuskers are just a little bit better than the Hawkeyes, and I think this is a game that comes down to the wire so give me the points.

Nebraska 23, Iowa 20

Rutgers v. Maryland (-14) - 12:00 PM EST - ESPNews

Rutgers has lost eight straight and hasn’t scored a point since the first week over November. Maryland has lost six of seven. The Terrapins get the win to become bowl eligible, but I don’t know what more I can say about this game. Rutgers somehow scores some points and finds a way to cover.

Maryland 30, Rutgers 20

Purdue v. Indiana (-20.5) - 12:00 PM EST - ESPNU

Not only will the Old Oaken Bucket be at stake in Bloomington on Saturday, but Indiana will earn bowl eligibility for the second straight season with a win over the Boilermakers. Interceptions will probably be plentiful in this game, as Purdue quarterback David Blough and Indiana quarterback Richard Lagow have combined to toss 32 picks on the year.

Purdue has packed it in on the year and is now more focused on landing one of the bigger head coaching candidates. Indiana didn’t look bad against Michigan, and it looked for a while that they had a shot at pulling the upset. I can’t say I’m crazy about laying nearly three touchdowns here, but I think Indiana takes Purdue to the woodshed here.

Indiana 45, Purdue 20

Illinois v. Northwestern (-17) - 12:00 PM EST - Big Ten Network

I had a little too much faith in Northwestern last week and the Wildcats responded by showing little fight in a 29-12 loss to Minnesota. Now Northwestern needs a win in their regular season finale to get to the six wins needed to become bowl eligible. Luckily the Wildcats are taking on Illinois to close out the regular season.

The Fighting Illini have been terrible this year, and surely the season can’t end fast enough for Lovie Smith. Illinois hasn’t scored a touchdown since a 31-27 win over Michigan State on November 5th. The Northwestern offense gets back on track with a solid performance on Saturday.

Northwestern 38, Illinois 17

Minnesota v. No. 6 Wisconsin (-14.5) - 3:30 PM EST - Big Ten Network

Minnesota might not be able to make it to the Big Ten Championship Game, but they can still possibly earn a share of the Big Ten West crown with a win. At least a win could throw a wrench into Wisconsin’s plans of making the Big Ten title game and possibly the College Football Playoff. Quarterback Mitch Leidner has struggled throughout the year, and things won’t get any easier against a stingy Wisconsin defense.

The Badgers will be looking to make it 13 straight wins over Wisconsin, as the rivals battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe. Saturday’s game will be the 126th between the school, making it the most played contest between FBS teams. Running back Corey Clement topped 1,000 yards last week, but might find yards harder to come by this week against a Minnesota defense that is allowing less than 120 yards per game on the ground.

This just feels like a few too many points in this matchup. Minnesota has overachieved this year, and while I don’t think they’ll win in Madison, they at least make Wisconsin work to earn a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game. Leidner makes a few plays to put just enough points on the board to stay within two touchdowns.

Wisconsin 24, Minnesota 13

Michigan State v. No. 7 Penn State (-13) - 3:30 PM EST - ESPN

How the tables have turned in just a year. Last year Ohio State fans were rooting for Penn State to take down Michigan State in East Lansing so the Buckeyes could earn a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game. This year Buckeye fans will be rooting for Michigan State to beat Penn State in State College to earn the Buckeyes a trip to Indianapolis next week (as long as Ohio State beats Michigan).

Even though Michigan State has been pretty awful this year, they at least played Michigan and Ohio State tough. The difference is those games were in East Lansing. The last time the Spartans won at the road this year came earlier in the season against Notre Dame. Running back L.J. Scott has been one of the very few bright spots for Michigan State this year, with the sophomore running back nearing 1,000 yards for the season.

Penn State started off slow against Rutgers last week, but had little trouble in disposing of the Scarlet Knights. The Nittany Lions have quite a strong combination in the backfield with quarterback Trace McSorley and running back Saquon Barkley. I think the duo leads Penn State to their eighth straight victory, but the Spartans won’t make it easy.

Penn State 31, Michigan State 21

No. 3 Michigan v. No. 2 Ohio State (-6.5) - 12:00 PM EST - ABC

MC&J has saved the best for last. Michigan and Ohio State will square off inside Ohio Stadium on Saturday afternoon essentially with a College Football Playoff berth on the line. Should the Wolverines win, they’ll be headed to the Big Ten Championship Game next week. If Ohio State wins, they possibly would at least share the Big Ten East title, and could be going to Indianapolis depending on what Penn State does.

There is a possibility that quarterback Wilton Speight could return on Saturday after missing last week’s game with a shoulder injury, but even if he does play how effective will he be against a tough Ohio State defense. With the pressure the Buckeyes are capable of creating, Speight could be in for some hard hits if he plays. If Speight doesn’t play, John O’Korn will get the nod. The Houston transfer didn’t show much against Indiana last week, but some of that could be attributed to getting used to the offense, as well as the weather in Ann Arbor last week.

Ohio State also had to deal with some gnarly weather last week in East Lansing, and it certainly showed in their offense game plan. Apparently the Buckeyes decided to run the let J.T. Barrett run a billion times offense. I understand it with the weather, and also not wanting to give Michigan much to try and prepare for. I’d be shocked if the Buckeyes don’t throw in a few new wrinkles to try and catch the Wolverines off guard. Maybe we see a little more of Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel together in the backfield than we have so far this season.

There is no question the rivalry is back with Jim Harbaugh taking over at Michigan prior to last year, and this is the first time in quite a while in which The Game has meant so much when it comes to both teams being in the national title race. Ohio State’s defense has carried them much of the year, and I don’t think they give up much to the Wolverines. The same can be said about Michigan, but I do think the Buckeyes have a few more game changers on offense than the Wolverines do. Also I’m hoping Ohio State exposes just how overrated Jabrill Peppers is. It won’t be a blowout like last year, but I think Ohio State does end up winning by 10 points to make it five straight wins over Michigan.

Ohio State 27, Michigan 17

usa_today_8957865.0.jpeg

Break out the Steveweiser’s, because it’s about to get real.

If I’ve learned anything watching wrestling —aside from that you definitely have a bad take in response to that— it’s that there’s nothing greater than a main event between two rivals with everything on the line. While I can only dream of Urban Meyer giving the double bird/stunner combo to Jim Harbaugh at mid-field, I think the same applies to college football.

The Kick Six, for instance; would it have been an epic finish to any Iron Bowl, regardless of what was on the line? Oh hell yeah, but the fact that it kept Alabama from three-peating and gave Auburn the SEC West title on their miracle run to the national championship game vaults it into the stratosphere of maybe the greatest college football game of all-time.

You think we’d all be reminiscing about the 2006 game a decade later if it played out exactly the same, but between two 8-3 teams? I don’t think these three will be getting Big Ten Network specials anytime soon, despite how much we all deserve a documentary on the Tate Forcier era. The point is, rivalry games like Alabama-Auburn, Ohio State-Michigan, etc. will always be a big deal regardless of the stakes, but they’re infinitely better when everything is on the line. Aside from what we saw in 2006, the 112th edition of The Game is about as high stakes as it gets.

With that in mind, here are five things to watch for tomorrow as No. 2 Ohio State takes on No. 3 Michigan for the right to main event Wrestlemania have an inside track at the College Football Playoff.

Emotions

Obvious statement is obvious, but emotions will be running high for everyone tomorrow. With everything at stake, and the nature of The Game itself, The Shoe should be in peak form. We’ll probably even end up with another pre-game scuffle like we’ve seen in recent years. The atmosphere will be one that the players, coaches, those at the game, and maybe even us peasants watching at home will never forget.

Even if Michigan is back™, it’s not a guarantee we’ll see another matchup between the two with as much on the line next year, five years from now, or even the rest of the decade. Much like the 2006 game, a win serves as bragging rights at an even higher clip than usual, to go along with everything else at stake.

For Ohio State; five in a row, a 2-0 record for Meyer against Harbaugh, and a likely shot at their 2nd national championship in three seasons.

For Michigan; clearing the Ohio State hurdle, finally getting to the Big Ten Championship game, and a potential playoff berth.

It’ll be exciting, nerve-wracking, and definitely frustrating at times, but Ohio State/Michigan games like this don’t come around often; Drink it in, maaaaan.

Marcus_Hall_bird.gif

Spirit Animal Marcus Hall lets you know how to feel about Michigan tomorrow. (Or any other day, really)
Reversal

“[Ohio traitor kid who plays for Michigan] is amped up to go back home and play the Buckeyes.” It’s a worn down storyline that’s unfortunately bit Ohio State in the ass a few times over the years, but naturally happens a ton given the abundance of high school talent in the state (BREAKING: NOT ALL OHIO RECRUITS CAN SIGN WITH OHIO STATE). While Michigan still has plenty of Ohioans on their roster, a Michigander on the Buckeyes may flip the script and make the Wolverines pay this time.

It’s well known how bizarre Mike Weber’s path to Ohio State was, but after redshirting in 2015 —and apparently coming close to transferring— the former Cass Tech star has exploded this season. Weber’s been trucking dudes left and right, and is just the third player in program history to rush for over a thousand yards in his debut season, along with the distinct honor of being the first to ever lift Pat Elflein:

Weber_pickup.gif

It’s hard to say tomorrow’s game will mean more to any one player over another, but as a Michigan native —and former Wolverine commit— it’s easy to tell how bad he wants this one:

"To have one of my biggest games against them, which is what I'm planning on doing, it's gonna be great a feeling," Weber said.

With the Buckeyes’ preference to run —as well as the Michigan defensive line’s tendency to get pushed around at times— he should get ample opportunity make good on those plans and dish out the kind of pain to Wolverines fans that Ohioans know all too well.

Is this thing on?

For Weber to have his moment, Ohio State will probably want to make sure there aren’t 8 Michigan defenders in the box every 1st and 2nd down. The easy way to do that is a successful passing game, —A foreign ability that exists for other offenses, I guess?— which is a scary thought for multiple reasons.

Not only have the Buckeyes been inconsistent throwing the ball, but now face the country’s best pass defense (1st in Passing S&P+), equipped with arguably the nation’s best corner tandem, and a front seven that gets to the passer better than anyone (1st in Adj. Sack Rate). Not the most encouraging prospects for a group that averaged 3.9 yards per attempt against this Michigan State defense.

The Buckeyes can’t fall into the trap of run-run-pass once again, and must make it a priority to at least try and keep Michigan off balance. Three-and-outs are killers against anyone, but especially this defense, as well Michigan’s excellent punt return unit. Field position is going to be at a premium, and J.T. Barrett and co. need to figure out a way to throw early and keep the Wolverines honest.

If they’re able to have even decent success throwing on standard downs, it should be enough to keep the run game relatively open, and help the Buckeyes score enough points to put the game in the hands of their defense.

Mirror

Does anything in particular stand out to you about Michigan’s offensive percentile performance lately?

ChartGo.jpeg

After being fairly consistent (and good) the first nine games of the season, the Wolverines’ offense has careened the past two weeks, posting their two lowest yards per play totals of the year, while averaging a paltry 3.8 yards per attempt. Quarterback Wilton Speight’s status is still up in the air as of now, but the Buckeyes should be able to build on the success the Iowa and Indiana defenses had, and give their offense opportunities to score, either through a well-timed turnover, or field position.

Iowa was able to push around Michigan’s offensive line on standard downs, limiting big runs, then holding the Wolverines to a 5 percent success rate on passing downs. It’s a formula the Buckeyes would do well to recreate, and probably gives them their best chance to win.

Which team do you think I’m talking about If I asked you, “Will [quarterback] be able to get [skill players] the ball against one of the best secondaries in the country?” Or, “Can they run against a defensive front that’s even better than ones they’ve struggled with this season?” For all the fear about Ohio State’s ability to score against Michigan’s defense, the exact same can be said for the Wolverines, only they also have an injured quarterback.

It’s very possible the game turns into an old-school, Big Ten slugfest, with the first to score 20 points earning a playoff birth, and Jim Delany’s undying adulation.

It’s already amazing that Ohio State’s defense has been this good, despite losing damn near everyone to the NFL. Tomorrow is a chance for them to leave their own mark on the program and be the reason the Buckeyes are back in the playoff.

#PuntToWin

Given the odds of a low scoring game, field position may end up being the deciding factor. If so, could there be a more fitting Senior Day for punter Cam Johnston?

Johnston’s long been Ohio State’s secret weapon, pinning opponents deep in their own territory, and putting the defense in position to give the offense an easy scoring opportunity, including last week:

Johnston_punt.gif

It always sucks to punt, but Johnston’s played a major role the last three seasons in Ohio State’s field position dominance, and another fantastic day from him could be the difference between Ohio State making the playoff, or all of us having to hear from egg-avatars on Twitter how Gene Smith should get a jump on Texas and LSU and hire Tom Herman.

It’s rare that a punter gets as much attention as Johnston has over the course of his career, but even then, he’s still probably undervalued. With the way The Game is likely to play out, he’s going to get a few opportunities to show the Buckeye faithful just how important he is.

Ohio State’s looking to move to 6-0.

The Ohio State men’s basketball team is 5-0 after a blowout victory over Jackson State on Wednesday. It was a complete team effort, with JaQuan Lyle pouring in a smooth eight assists in the first half, and finished with 11.

Kam Williams and Marc Loving led the offensive charge for the Buckeyes, scoring 19 and 15 points respectively. Jae’Sean Tate had a good game as well, with seven points and four rebounds, as well as three steals. That’s not a huge state line, but his hustle plays and the emotional leadership he provided helped give the Buckeyes a spark, as they breezed past Jackson State.

A similar win on Friday night would be welcome for Thad Matta and his squad, as they’re looking for some consistency in their play that they haven’t seen in a couple of seasons. Marshall may not be a crazy good team, but another blowout win would be fun for all of us, and a good sign for Ohio State.

Marshall comes in undefeated as well at 4-0, and actually has a pretty similar slate of games to that of Ohio State. The Thundering Herd also has victories over NCCU, Western Carolina, and Jackson State.

Their scoring attack is led by Jon Elmore, a junior guard out of Charleston, West Virginia, with 19 points per game. He’s also their leading distributor with nearly six assists per game.

One of the Thundering Herd’s defensive stalwarts is Ryan Taylor, who is averaging two blocks per game for Dan D’Antoni’s squad. If the name sounds familiar, yes, he is the older brother of Mike D’Antoni, current Houston Rockets coach in the NBA.

Ohio State has been without Keita Bates-Diop, and according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstsein, he will be a game-time decision against Marshall.

Numbers to know

0

Both of these teams have zero losses. They’ve both played against similar, mediocre squads, but a win is a win. We’re not quite sure just how well either of these teams are yet, but at the very least for the Buckeyes, who knocked off Providence earlier this season, you’d like to see them handle a team like Marshall easily. As we’ve seen across college basketball early this season, that’s not always the case.

117

Marshall’s KenPom ranking. They’re undoubtedly one the better teams Ohio State will have faced this season through 5 games, but it’s still nothing to go crazy over. For good measure, Fort Wayne, who knocked off Indiana was 120, so we shouldn’t sleep on the Thundering Herd. They’re 17th in adjusted tempo, which is number of possessions per 40 minutes. If they’re able to make the most of those, that’s breeding grounds for an interesting basketball game.

1977-78

That was the last time these two teams met. Obviously both programs have gone in different directions since then, but it’s cool when rare matchups like these happen, as long as the Buckeyes handle their business in the Schott. At the very least, Thad Matta’s looking well on his way to another 20-plus win season, which has been the norm for him since arriving in Columbus.

Cast of characters

Ohio State

Jae’Sean Tate

A national treasure. Tate is such a fun basketball player, and he’s like the glue for this Ohio State team. They’re young, but Tate is a junior now, and the argument could be made that he was already their leader last season, and that’s definitely the case through five games this season. Tate loves the game of basketball so much, and his fiery, competitive spirit is infectious within Ohio State’s team. So far he leads the Bucks in points per game with 13.2, and he’s third in rebounds at 6.6, but he does so much more for this team that helps them win games that you just can’t record.

JaQuan Lyle

When Lyle is passing the ball to his best ability, the Ohio State offense is actually really fun to watch. Lyle came out of Evansville, Indiana, to Ohio State with his high school coach often saying he had to have him tone down his passes, because they were so good his teammates couldn’t handle them. This season, Lyle appears to have found a good mix, and it made for some quick, exciting runs for Ohio State against Jackson State. When Lyle is scoring too, that’s arguably the Buckeyes’ most valuable player.

Marshall

Terrence Thompson

The junior from Durham, North Carolina, is second on D’Antoni’s squad with 14.5 points per game, and first in rebounds per game at 7.3. The 6’7 forward just about does it all for the Thundering Herd, and stopping him will be key for another Ohio State victory. He was a transfer from Georgia Highlands College, and has been a key addition to Marshall’s team. D’Antoni’s favorite part about him? He’s a biology major trying to go to med school. That’s a solid backup in case basketball doesn’t pan out.

Jon Elmore

Elmore is another transfer for D’Antoni’s program, coming from VMI in January of 2015. He won the Evans Award as the top prep basketball player in West Virginia in high school, and was a key piece for Marshall last season. He missed eight games last season, in which the team went 2-8. He’s their leading scorer, but at 6’3, 189 pounds, the Buckeyes should be able to match up with him pretty well.

Visiting Columbus for the First time

Hope you enjoy the atmosphere! This is going to be one of the biggest college football games played since 2006, so be prepared for the place to be a madhouse.

I'm not sure how many big games you've been to, but I'm betting none of them will come close to this one in terms of attendance. There will be mobs of people everywhere. I'd suggest getting up earlier than you think you need to. GameDay starts at 7am and it's going to be bustling.

There's a big tailgate in the parking lot before The Game on Lane Ave. (where the big bridge is) that you may want to check out. Food/alcohol are both served here and there will be live entertainment.

If you keep walking toward the stadium from that tailgate spot, you'll run into some shops and things like the Varsity Club (bar) that you may want to check out if for nothing more than historical purposes. It will be jam packed.

I'd try to hit Buckeye Donuts on High St. before you leave. It's a staple and delicious. There will be a line.

Enjoy The Game! I'm positive it will be a memorable experience. I'll be there, so shoot me a message if you have questions and I'll be more than happy to help.

Can McMillan and the Buckeyes flip the Bulldog commit?

Tomorrow, Ohio State has arguably its toughest test of the season against their bitter rival and it’s shaping up to be the biggest game since 2006 when both teams were ranked No. 1 and No. 2. This year’s matchup will be played in what will easily be another near record crowd, with an incredible haul of top recruits from all over the country will make the trek to Columbus to watch Ohio State battle Michigan. With so much on the line for this year’s edition of The Game, the Buckeyes will look to impress the committee, their fans and the recruits in attendance.

LeCounte making the trip North

What was once thought to be a Buckeye victory on signing day 2017, Richard LeCounte III (Riceboro, GA / Liberty County), a former high school teammate of current Buckeye Raekwon McMillan, was a heavy Ohio State lean early on in his recruitment. In fact, rumors swirled after the Ohio State Friday Night Light’s camp that LeCounte actually had quietly committed to Urban Meyer and Ohio State.

However, over time, LeCounte grew fond of Kirby Smart and the idea of staying at home and playing for the Georgia Bulldogs. With his commitment to Georgia, Urban Meyer and staff have looked elsewhere for their defensive back haul and have seen great success.

This weekend, even though committed to Georgia, the five-star safety will make the trip to Columbus, according to landof10.com. This trip, however, will most likely not mean anything in his recruitment, as most believe his pledge to the Bulldogs is completely solid. With the chance to maybe see his friend and former teammate McMillan play in Columbus for probably the last time, LeCounte will be taking recruiting off of his mindset for this matchup.

But, you never know what will happen.

Foster high on OSU

When it comes to Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class, success is all you’ll see. However, 2018 might be just as strong when it’s all said and done. For Urban Meyer, 2018 has started off fast and strong as does his usual recruiting class. Keeping with that trend, another five-star prospect placed Ohio State in his top 5 schools of consideration.

This time, running back and safety 2018 stud, BJ Foster (Angleton, TX / Angleton) listed Ohio State not only in his top five schools, but as his top school he is considering at the moment. In his top five besides Ohio State and Michigan, LSU, Texas and TCU made the cut. With over 20 scholarship offers, the five-star ranks as the top safety not only in Texas for the 2018 class, but the entire country as well.

Luckily for Ohio State, they are well on their way to landing another incredible talent from the Lone Star State. The success Urban Meyer and staff are having in Texas is second to none and the relationship between Ohio State and Foster seems to be growing with each day.

The Buckeyes have 10 inductees into the hall to Michigan’s eight.

As two of the most storied programs in all of sports, it makes sense that the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines have produced some of the most noteworthy players in professional football. Ohio State has the third-most NFL Hall of Fame inductees of any school with 10, while Michigan sits tied for fourth with eight (Notre Dame, 10, and USC, 11, led all schools). In due time, the likes of Charles Woodson, Eddie George, Tom Brady and Nick Mangold may also grace the Hall, but for now, here are the great players, coaches and contributors from both schools who have been selected to the hall:

Ohio State

  • Cris Carter (1984-86): After playing for three seasons at Ohio State, the wideout was selected in the fourth round of the 1987 supplemental draft. Carter, an eight-time Pro-Bowler, played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings--where his number is retired--and Miami Dolphins. He was voted into the hall in 2013.
  • Sid Gillman: Playing end at Ohio State in the 1930s under Sam Willamin, Gillman went on to win an AFL Championship with the San Diego Chargers in 1963. He was elected to the hall in 1983.
  • Lou Groza (1942): Though renowned for his place kicking ability, Groza also played offensive tackle at Ohio State. Groza played just one season for the Buckeyes before enlisting in the Army in support of World War II. On his return, Groza went on to kick for the Cleveland Browns, earning nine Pro Bowl bids and four NFL Championships on the way to being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1974.
  • Dante Lavelli (1941-42): Like Groza, Lavelli’s career at Ohio State was truncated due to World War II. After returning from the war, Lavelli was offered a chance to play receiver for Paul Brown with the Cleveland Browns, where Lavelli would spend his entire career. The three-time Pro-Bowler and NFL Champion was voted into the hall in 1975.
  • Dick LeBeau (1956-58): Lebeau played defensive back for Woody Hayes on the 1957 National Championship team before spending 14 seasons with the Detroit Lions. A three-time Pro-Bowler, LeBeau went on to become one of the most perennial defensive minds in the game, most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was elected to the hall in 2010.
  • Orlando Pace (1993-96): The offensive tackle was the No. 1-overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, where he was an NFL Champion and seven-time Pro-Bowler. During his college career at Ohio State, Pace won the Outland Trophy in 1996 and two consecutive Lombardi Awards from 1995-96. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
  • Jim Parker (1954-56): The eighth-overall pick in the 1957 NFL Draft, Parker spent all 11 seasons of his NFL career as an offensive tackle for the Baltimore Colts. An eight-time Pro-Bowler and two-time NFL Champion, Parker was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973.
  • Ed Sabol: An outstanding swimmer at Ohio State, Sabol went on to found NFL Films in 1962, earning 91 Emmy Awards along the way. He was voted into the hall in 2011.
  • Paul Warfield (1961-63): The wide receiver was an eight-time Pro-Bowler and three-time NFL Champion with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and the Memphis Southmen. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1983.
  • Bill Willis (1942-44): The defensive tackle is just one of eight Buckeyes to have his jersey retired at Ohio State. A three-time Pro-Bowler with the Cleveland Browns, with whom he spent his entire career, Willis earned an NFL Championship in 1950. He was inducted into the hall in 1977.
Michigan

  • George Allen: The famed NFL coach of the L.A. Rams and Washington Redskins was inducted in 2002. He claimed Michigan as his alma mater, though he also attended Alma College and Marquette University.
  • Dan Dierdorf (1967-70): The offensive lineman played for Michigan before becoming a six-time Pro-Bowler with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 1996, and was subsequently elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
  • Len Ford (1945-47): Initially enrolled at Morgan State, Ford returned to college after World War II to play football for Michigan. The defensive end was a three-time NFL Champion with the Cleveland Browns, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976.
  • Benny Friedman (1924-26): The Cleveland native attended Glenville High School before moving on to play halfback and quarterback for Michigan. As a pro, he played for the Cleveland Bulldogs, Detroit Wolverines, New York giants and Brooklyn Dodgers. He was elected to the hall in 2005.
  • Bill Hewitt (1939-31): Hewitt played at Michigan as an end and fullback. He was a two-time NFL Champion with the Chicago Bears before moving on to the Philadelphia Eagles and the “Steagles” (the merged Philadelphia/Pittsburgh team in 1943), and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1971.
  • Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch (1943-44): A transfer from Wisconsin (where his number is retired), Hirsch played end and fullback, The first Michigan athlete to earn four varsity letters in a single year (in baseball, basketball, football and track), Hirsch went on to play for the Chicago Rockets and L.A. Rams, and was inducted to the hall in 1968.
  • Tom Mack (1962-65): A native of Cleveland, the offensive lineman was the second overall pick in the 1966 NFL Draft by the L.A. Rams, where he played 13 seasons and played in 184 consecutive games. The 11-time Pro-Bowler was voted into the hall in 1999.
  • Ralph Wilson, Jr.: A Columbus native and graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Wilson went on to found the Buffalo Bills in 1959. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009.
