Rivalries That Once Were...

The best backyard brawl. Sweet Rich Rod tears

But if WVU had won, they would have been the opponent in the Superdome, rather than LSU, for the BCS Title game after the 2007 season. Buckeye football, and possibly TTUN football, could have been very different if Pitt didn’t win that Brawl.

OL Kirk Barton (Don't tase me Bro!)

Is Buckeye Scoop still a thing? What are The Oracle and The Helping Technician up to???
I was just wondering about them so I checked it out. Barton and the Buckeye Scoop Twitter accounts are still going, but both have nearly all their own tweets locked for replies. Looks like mostly they get about 1-5 likes on each tweet. They retweet a lot of recruits tweets and Barton alternates that with "anti-woke" retweets.

Nevada still has his replies mostly turned off as well. He's mostly posting videos that get a handful of likes and a few thousand views on YouTube.

2022 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ohio State football signed the No. 4 recruiting class in 2022, according to the 247Sports composite score. With two five-stars, 18 four-stars and one three-star, the prospects coming to Columbus this fall will provide head coach Ryan Day with his roster for the future.

But some first-year Buckeyes, outside of the 21 commits featured in that class, will not be featured on the 85-man scholarship roster in 2022 (or perhaps during their entire Ohio State career). Those players aren’t heavily recruited or awarded any athletic financial aid. Those players are walk-ons.

In August, a flurry of new faces will start fall camp with Ohio State for the first time. Twelve of them will be walk-ons, according to the roster as of July 20. Buckeye Sports Bulletin has assembled their names:

MASON MAGGS, QUARTERBACK

KAI SAUNDERS, WIDE RECEIVER

TC CAFFEY, RUNNING BACK

BRENTON JONES, SAFETY

CHASE BRECHT, RUNNING BACK
Brecht (6-0, 205) earned first-team All-Ohio Capital Conference and second-team all-district honors as a senior at Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty High School. A utility player at running back and wide receiver, Brecht’s best game came against Hilliard (Ohio) Davidson when he amassed 241 all-purpose yards and three second-half touchdowns while leading his team to a win.

COLIN KAUFMANN, CORNERBACK

JAYDEN FIELDING, KICKER

DIANTÉ GRIFFIN, CORNERBACK

RIORDIN STAUFFER, TIGHT END

JAY STOKER, LINEBACKER

BLAIZE EXLINE, WIDE RECEIVER

DAVID ADOLPH, WIDE RECEIVER

Chase Brecht

I don’t have the best memory at my age, so forgive me if I don’t remember this particular running back even being on the team. The Olentangy Liberty product was a surprise star in the fourth quarter of the Spring Game. Brecht was the second-leading rusher with eight carries for 47 yards and most of that was just a sheer willingness to stay up and move the pile.

He averaged 5.9 yards per carry, which was second only to Trayanum among runners with more than one carry. Brecht also finished with two receptions for 10 more yards. He had a highlight-reel catch on a pass that really should have been picked off, and I love players who don’t give up on plays and keep their concentration level high as Brecht did here:

I talked myself into believing he’d be a 1,000-yard rusher at Purdue or Northwestern based on those eight carries, and I’m pretty comfortable betting my house on that — because I’m terrible at gambling, which is why I don’t do it.

However, after seeing what TC Caffey did in his limited opportunities last year, I’m convinced Ohio State’s walk-on running backs are the real deal and won’t hear a word to the contrary.

Chicago Blackhawks

Blackhawks announce that Jonathan Toews won't be re-signing with team ahead of regular season finale

Just two months after trading Patrick Kane, the Chicago Blackhawks are saying farewell to another franchise icon. On Thursday, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson announced that the team won't be re-signing captain Jonathan Toews this coming offseason.

Instead, Toews will play his final game as a member of the Blackhawks against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. He will then become an unrestricted free agent this summer after the playoffs are over.

"I've had a number of conversations with Jonathan throughout the season about his future with the Blackhawks, and recently, we had the difficult conversation that we won't be re-signing him this offseason," Davidson said in a statement. "Tonight will be his final game as a Blackhawk, and it was very important to us to be able to provide the proper send off for Jonathan and our fans.

"He has done so much for this organization, and no matter where he plays next, we're excited our fans get the chance to show Jonathan exactly how much he means to them."

Toews has spent his entire 15-year NHL career with the Blackhawks after being selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2006 NHL Draft. The 34-year-old star currently ranks fifth in games played (1,066), sixth in points (882), sixth in goals (371), seventh in power-play goals (92) and eighth in assists (511) in Blackhawks history.

During his time in Chicago, Toews has won three Stanley Cups (2010, 2013, 2015), appeared in six All-Star Games and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010 as the league's postseason MVP. He also became the second-youngest player to ever win the Conn Smythe Trophy at just 22 . In addition, Toews won the Selke Trophy in 2013 as the NHL's top defensive forward.
