The Buckeyes dealt out offers to numerous top prospects over the weekend.

Before you can become an All-American or hear your name get called during the NFL Draft you first have to earn a scholarship offer from a college football program.

Over the weekend a trio of top prospects from the class of 2018 received an opportunity to continue the next step of their football dreams in Columbus, Ohio at The Ohio State University.

3-star DE Daniel Carson


Town: Independence,MO/William Chrisman

Size: 6’5/260

Other Offers: Georgia, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc

The Skinny: While Carson isn’t as highly rated as some of the other prospects on the Buckeyes board at the moment, it doesn’t take long to see why he’s starting to pop up on programs radar. With good size, speed off the line, and the frame to add more weight, Carson, who racked up 56 total tackles and 13 quarterback sacks as a junior, shows the kind of raw potential Urban Meyer and other college coaches love to mold into all around players.

3-star RB Tavion Thomas


Town: Dayton,OH/Dunbar

Size: 6’2/225

Other Offers: Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Michigan State, Wisconsin, etc

The Skinny: One of the hottest class of 2018 prospects on the market, Thomas picked up his scholarship offer from the Buckeyes staff on Saturday afternoon during a visit to the Ohio State University campus. Like the aforementioned Carson, Thomas should be inline to watch his rating skyrocket in the coming weeks after recently earning numerous impressive offers.

Seeing time on both sides of the ball at Dunbar, Thomas is mostly known for his big play ability as a high school running back. Last season as a junior, he used his solid speed and instincts to rush for over 1,600 yards and 17 touchdowns to help the Wolverines finish the year off with an overall record of 7-3.

4-star ATH Jordyn Adams


Town: Cary,NC/Green Hope

Size: 6’2/175

Other Offers: Alabama, Clemson, Indiana, North Carolina, TCU, etc

The Skinny: A high school quarterback, Adams will more than likely make the switch to wide receiver on the college level. A threat to score nearly every time the football is in his hands, the speedster accounted for over 3,100 total yards of offense, and 35 touchdowns for Blythewood (SC) before transferring after the season.

Sometimes football just runs in your blood. That is definitely a fact with Jordyn. Born into the game, his father Deke Adams, a longtime college assistant, is currently on the staff at the University of North Carolina as the defensive line coach.

3-star OL John Campbell


Town: Orlando,FL/Dr. Phillips

Size: 6’5/290

Other Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Tennessee, etc

The Skinny: With 30 scholarship offers now currently on the table, it might be pretty difficult to get Campbell to head to far away from the Sunshine state, but that won’t keep Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff from trying to get him to call Columbus his future home.

Always looking to land the next John Hicks, Korey Stringer, Orlando Pace or LeCharles Bentley, the Buckeyes reportedly offered the standout lineman on Sunday evening.

A big time blocker, he and the rest of the line at Dr. Phillips helped pave the way for the Panthers to reach over 4,500 yards of total offense last season.

• The football squad weren’t the only Buckeyes program to dish out a scholarship offer over the weekend. On Saturday, Thad Matta and the Ohio State basketball coaching staff offered 2019 four-star guard Jeremiah Francis. The 6-foot-3 Pickerington Central sophomore is the son of former OSU standout and one time Tigers head coach Jerry Francis.
• Per Ryan Bartow of 247Sports, Ohio State is one of over 30 schools to reach out to Clemson graduate transfer Scott Pagano. A defensive tackle with one year of eligibility left, Pagano finished his career with the Tigers with over 90 total tackles.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Fifth-year senior right-hander Jake Post scattered two runs on five hits in six innings of work, but the Ohio State baseball team was edged by Kansas State, 3-2, Sunday afternoon to conclude play at the 2017 Sunshine State Classic Series in Kissimmee, Fla. The Wildcats (3-1) plated the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and held on to the one-run lead for the victory as the Buckeyes fall to 2-2 on the season.

“Losses are never good, but it was our first time out this weekend and we did a lot of positive things,” head coach Greg Beals said. “The shining light on the day for me was Jake Post. It was great to see him back on the mound and he gave us a quality start. We need to work on our quality at-bats and be more prepared defensively. We need to get better at the little things and we will.”

The Buckeyes finished the season’s opening weekend with a .500 record.

The Ohio State baseball team will return to Columbus from the Sunshine State Classic in Osceola, Florida with a .500 record after dropping Sunday’s game to Kansas State, 3-2. The Buckeyes lost their final two games of the weekend tournament.

Right-hander Jake Post, making his first appearance since 2015 after sitting out last season with Tommy John surgery, had a solid outing for Ohio State. In six innings of work, the redshirt senior gave up two runs on five hits, striking out three and not issuing a walk in taking a no-decision.

Seniors Jalen Washington and Zach Ratcliff each had a pair of hits in the losing effort, as the Buckeyes failed to come up with the clutch hitting they needed late in the game, stranding a total of eight runners in the ballgame.

Kansas State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to two hits and a hit batter with two outs. Josh Rolette’s single to right plated Steve Serratore for the early lead. Post settled in after that in his return to the mound, setting down 10 of the next 11 batters he faced.

There was trouble in the fifth, though, as the Wildcats scored another run. A leadoff bunt single by Will Brennan and a sacrifice bunt by Josh Ethier put a runner in scoring position, and an infield single by Cameron Thompson brought Brennan all the way around.

But the Buckeyes were able to answer in the bottom half of the frame. With one out, Shea Murray sent a long fly ball down the right field line. It stayed in the park, but he ended up on third base with a triple. After Jacob Barnwell worked a walk, Tre Gantt ripped a single into right-center to bring Murray home.

Washington followed that up with a double into the gap in left-center, which brought Barnwell around to tie the game and gave Ohio State two runners in scoring position with just one out. It also ended the day for starter Parker Rigler.

Side-armer Nick Jones relieved and got Noah McGowan to send a grounder to third. Gantt was hung up in a rundown and tagged out, and Tyler Cowles grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.

Freshman Jake Vance made his collegiate debut in relief of Post in the seventh, and the righty from Canton Central Catholic worked around a leadoff infield single to keep the game knotted up. He wouldn’t be able to escape in the eighth, though.

Jake Wodtke led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Serratore. Jake Scudder then singled to center, bringing Wodtke home and giving the Wildcats a 3-2 lead. Vance would take the loss in the game.

KState got two shutout innings of relief from sophomore right-hander Mitch Zubradt, picking up the win, and senior lefty Jordan Floyd worked through a jam in the eighth and a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.

Up next for the baseball Bucks is a trip to the desert for the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge in Surprise, Arizona. Ohio State will play two games apiece against Utah and Oregon State in a stern early season test Thursday through Sunday.

The Buckeyes remain undefeated with a narrow win in Columbus.

The 20th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes men’s lacrosse team built on its early season success with a narrow, 8-7 win over the Massachusetts Minutemen Saturday in Columbus. Ohio State now moves to 3-0 on the season. It was the Buckeyes’ first game at Ohio Stadium this season, having played its previous two matchups in the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex.

Senior specialist Jake Withers won the opening faceoff for Ohio State, and the Buckeyes quickly got two shots off before senior attackman Austin Shanks found the back of the net less than two minutes into the opening quarter. UMass answered quickly, when, after another two shots by Ohio State, the Minutemen successfully cleared and scored with 11:53 remaining in the first. Junior attackman Colin Chell put Ohio State back up two minutes later, but a penalty on the Buckeyes gave UMass a man-up opportunity which they capitalized on with a goal, tying things at two-all midway through the quarter. Senior midfielder Johnny Pearson responded with his first goal of the game, assisted by freshman midfielder Tre Leclaire, to give Ohio State the lead once again. However, the Minutemen tied the score at three-all, finding the back of the net with 10 seconds left in the first.

The two teams traded possessions for most of the second quarter, until UMass scored with 6:38 remaining in the half to gain their first lead of the game. Despite four shots on a single possession to end the half, the Buckeyes were shutout in an entire quarter of play for the first time this season.

Ohio State tied things back up early in the second half on a Leclaire goal, assisted by senior attackman Eric Fannell. But then the Minutemen scored two goals in less than a minute to take a 6-4 lead with 9:13 remaining in the third quarter. Undeterred, Pearson scored his second goal of the game to pull within one midway through the third, and Chell added a second goal of his own to bring the score to 6-6 with 2:35 remaining in the quarter.

With the game tied entering the final quarter, UMass scored to go up 7-6 with 11:46 remaining in the game. But senior midfielder J.T. Blubaugh, who was quiet last game against Detroit Mercy, scored his first goal of the game to give Ohio State the tie. Freshman defenseman Jeff Henrick, assisted by Withers, then capped off scoring for both teams 13 seconds later to give the Buckeyes an 8-7 edge that they would not relinquish with 10:39 left in the game.

Chell and Pearson led the Buckeyes in scoring with two goals each on the day. UMass outshot Ohio State 19-18, but Buckeye goalies recorded 12 saves to UMass’s 10. Senior goalie Tom Carey played just 15 minutes, with junior goalie Matthew Smidt coming in for the final three quarters and saving 11 shots on goal. Withers got back on track for faceoffs, winning 12-of-19 on the day while going solo (he had previously split time with freshman specialist Christian Feliziani). Ohio State had a 27-19 advantage in ground balls over UMass, with Withers recording a team-high 10.

UMass falls to 0-2 on the season and heads to Cambridge to play Harvard next week. Next up for the Buckeyes are the Dolphins of Jacksonville in Columbus--their final matchup in their four-game homestand before heading to Milwaukee to face Marquette.

The Buckeyes completed the weekend sweep with the 4-3 victory over the Spartans on Saturday night

Ohio State showing dominance against inferior teams is not something we’ve seen lately as much as we should. But, boy, did it show up in the second period on Saturday night.

No. 14 Ohio State hockey went up 1-0 after twenty minutes, but obliterated Michigan State in the second, outshooting MSU 14-4 in the frame and retaining their lead. MSU had some puck luck in the second, scoring twice on their four shots, but Ohio State’s dominance allowed them to retain their lead despite that disadvantage.

The first and third periods weren’t nearly as impressive, but Ohio State found a way to scrape by and maintain their lead throughout, never trailing or even spending a second tied after scoring their first goal.

The first period wasn’t so nice in the shot total department, with OSU trailing 6-9. But Matt Miller, who had two assists on Friday night, scored at 12:17. His second in three games, on the powerplay, was assisted by Matt Joyaux and Weis.

That’d be all that would appear on the scoreboard in the first, but the second would look like a 1980s Oilers game in comparison. Nick Schilkey scored his 23rd of the year just 1:18 into the second, taking a feed in the offensive zone and firing a sharp angle shot low in the zone to make it 2-0. David Gust got the primary assist for the feed and Gordi Myer had the secondary helper. His 23rd is the most for a Buckeye since 2005.

Brendon Kearney would make it 3-0 in favor of OSU just 27 seconds later, at 1:45 and this one sure looked like it was going to be a laugher. If I told you Michigan State would only register four shots in the second despite being down 3-0, you’d think they got their doors blown off. They did, but still found a way to score. Twice.

Logan Lambdin scored quickly after Kearney, at 2:36 and Mason Appleton made it a one goal game at 13:16, just over ten minutes later. Suddenly, Ohio State looked like they were in deep trouble, but they didn’t stop attacking and give MSU any more chances than they earned.

Michigan State wouldn’t score again in that period and OSU took that 3-2 lead into the intermission. Ohio State would go back to their defensive shell in the third, only registering four shots of their own, but they only allowed six in net and would find a way to hold on.

Weis would provide an ultimately-much needed insurance goal, as he took a feed from John Wiitala after Wiitala won an offensive zone faceoff and put it home. Ohio State was back up two goals, 4-2.

Michigan State wasn’t done, however. The Spartans looked like they got within one with 6:02 left in the third, but Ohio State challenged, thinking that MSU came into the zone offside. The goal, unfortunately for the Buckeyes, was upheld and the lead was down to just one.

But that was all that the Spartans would get. Michigan State would get three shots within the last four plus minutes, but weren’t able to find a way to put one into the OSU net. The Buckeyes held on by a score of 4-3 and improved to 16-8-6 in conference and 7-6-1-1 in conference. MSU falls to 6-19-3 overall and 2-10-2 in conference after the weekend.

The Buckeyes will face the team from Michigan they’ve had substantially more problems with, the Wolverines, next weekend in Columbus and they hope to avenge the split from two weekends ago.
