Michael Kelly is back as the narrator in this short commercial about the Buckeyes and Wolverines.

Back when the season first started, Ohio State—as well as the rest of the Big Ten schools—got a really cool hype commercial, courtesy of Fox Sports.

Now, as we roll into rivalry week, a new hype commercial has been released for ‘The Game’.

Featuring Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, and a cacophony of short video snippets, we get a glimpse of the commercial’s theme of “complicated.” This commercial is an extension of the “Every Game Is Everything” theme that Fox Sports has used this season to promote their slate of college football games. Wieden+Kennedy are the brains behind this campaign.

Like the prior commercials in this advertising campaign, Michael Kelly is the narrator. Kelly is best known for his role as Doug Stamper on House of Cards; on the movie screen, he’s had notable roles in Changeling, The Adjustment Bureau, and Dawn of the Dead.

For more info on the campaign, AdWeek has you covered.

Ohio State battles Michigan in the 114th edition of the rivalry on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET, with Fox broadcasting the game.

LGHL Ohio State offers Colorado OT commit

Following a visit to Columbus, Colorado offensive tackle commit Walker Culver adds Ohio State to his list of suitors.

Urban Meyer has become notorious for flipping recruits that have verbally committed elsewhere. Year after year, the Buckeyes are able to get at least one recruit to rethink his commitment and choose Ohio State. As we get further into this year’s recruiting cycle, a few names are starting to stand out among those who could flip to Meyer and the Buckeyes.

One of those names is Walker Culver (Chattanooga, TN/Baylor School,) a three-star offensive tackle already committed to Colorado.

Culver committed to the Buffs exactly one year ago today but has since been courted by multiple other programs. The blue chip prospect has had an impressive senior year which has resulted in bigger name programs taking notice. In the last year, Culver has added offers to that list from schools like Auburn, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and now Ohio State, likely the biggest name of the bunch.

Culver visited Ohio State this past weekend for the Buckeyes' game versus Illinois and the visit appears to have gone as smooth as possible, as the Ohio State coaching staff presented him with an official scholarship offer following the visit.

Awesome weekend in Columbus! Thank you @OSUCoachMeyer and the rest of the @OhioStateFB staff for an incredible visit. Honored to say I received an offer from Ohio State Today #GoBucks pic.twitter.com/eM5Eh9O64p

— Walker Culver (@WalkerCulver58) November 20, 2017

So what does this mean?

Ohio State has secured verbal commitments from two offensive linemen in this year’s class with four-star OG Matthew Jones and four-star OT Max Wray. However, Meyer is always looking to add more depth to the o-line, as marquee games are usually won in the trenches.

The Buckeyes are viewed as the leader in the race for five-star OT Jackson Carman but it appears that Meyer wants to add at least two more offensive linemen.

Following Culver’s visit, the Buckeyes seem to be the front-runner to land the three-star as the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions all favor the Buckeyes. Culver has yet to take an official visit so he may try and use one on both Colorado and Ohio State before making any changes in his recruitment.

As is stands today, Culver is still committed to Colorado, but when Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes take notice, it is impossible to ignore.

Ohio State gains ground with a 4-star safety

Ohio State’s 2018 recruiting class is starting to take shape and one of the areas the coaching staff is focusing on is the secondary.

The Buckeyes already hold commitments from four-star safeties Jaiden Woodbey and Josh Proctor, and while adding one more may make the position appear crowded, Meyer will always find room for an elite prospect.

He might be tasked with that as the program appears to be gaining ground on four-star S Tyreke Johnson (Jacksonville, FL/Trinity Christian Academy).

Johnson is viewed as one of the top safeties in the class. The 247Sports Composite Rankings have him listed as the No. 4 safety in the class and the No. 38 overall prospect. Because of this, Ohio State has plenty of competition in recruiting him as Clemson, Georgia, UCLA, Florida State, Miami, and Florida are all giving him attention.

It appears that one of those teams may have dropped off the above list as UCLA decided to move on from head coach Jim Mora. Johnson didn’t seem too pleased with yesterday’s move, taking to Twitter to express his feelings.

Sad to see a real one go @Jim_MoraUCLA

— tyreke johnson (@Im_showtime_) November 19, 2017

With UCLA seemingly out of the picture, Ohio State’s biggest threat appears to be Clemson. However, Johnson officially visited the Tigers this past weekend and while the visit reportedly went well, the overwhelming feeling following the visit is that Ohio State is the front-runner—so much so that five recruiting experts have penciled the Buckeyes in as their Crystal Ball Prediction on 247Sports since the visit ended.

The Buckeyes have seen two four-star CB recruits commit elsewhere in the last month, and with five-star CB Anthony Cook reportedly leaning towards selecting Texas as his collegiate school of choice, Ohio State will be looking at a back-up plan. That may be adding another elite DB to the class and having one of them switch positions at the next level. Adding to this theory is that Johnson has stated he wants to play CB in college.

Johnson now appears to be atop Ohio State’s big board at the CB position and the excitement between the two is for real. He has yet to reveal an announcement date, but one could come at the U.S. All-American game.

The Big Ten (and Ohio State) is poised to create chaos in the College Football Playoff

usa_today_10422490.0.jpg

It’s happened before, and it will probably happen again.

“There’s no part of me that says if you go undefeated as a Power 5 and win your conference championship and you’re not going to be in the final four. I don’t see that. That would shock me.”

-Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez, via Heather Dinich, ESPN

The Ohio State Buckeyes are used to being on the outside looking in into the College Football Playoff--at least until the final rankings come out. In 2014, the Buckeyes were sitting at No. 8 in the week 12 playoff rankings. A win over Michigan in the final regular season game, even with a season-ending injury to JT Barrett, propelled Ohio State up two spots to No. 6. And then a week later, a domineering win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game was enough to allow the Buckeyes to jump two contenders from the Big 12 for a spot in the inaugural playoff.

Last season, hope was all but lost for the Buckeyes as they didn’t even make the Big Ten cChampionship game following a loss to Penn State. But chaos ensued and Ohio State found itself in the top-four of the final rankings.

This year, the Big Ten as a whole--not just Ohio State--can once again bring chaos to the CFP final rankings. Wisconsin, despite being one of just four undefeated teams in the rankings, has been sitting outside the top-four all season. While this consideration is owing mainly to their strength of schedule (Northwestern is the only ranked team the Badgers have beaten), a win over Ohio State and a Big Ten title would naturally position Wisconsin in the playoff, usurping a team which had previously been comfortable in one of the top spots.

On the flip side, should Ohio State win and a number of other factors come into play (‘Bama winning out over Auburn and Georgia, Miami defeating Clemson in the ACC title game, Oklahoma winning the Big 12), the committee would have serious consideration for even a two-loss Big Ten champ that is currently on a hot streak. The alternatives would be a second team from the SEC or ACC, like Clemson or Georgia, or a two-loss Pac-12 champion.

“It was a tribute to our senior class. But it’s not a goodbye, because we have a lot of ball in front of us.”

-Urban Meyer, via Austin Ward, Land of 10

Senior day on Saturday may have been rainy, wet and unconventional for the 19 seniors recognized by the Ohio State football program, but it was undoubtedly an unforgettable experience. After receiving a final sendoff, having effectively buried the Illini in a hole too deep to dig themselves out of, the first string was called back to play another series in the third quarter, with some players even needing to be retaped to get back into the game unexpectedly. And the rain--a soaking rain which began in the first half and which did not taper until after the game was over--was relentless, creating a hideous environment that would have been miserable if not for the blowout win in a trophy game.

The fact remains that this senior class has done amazing things for the Ohio State football program and university. Despite the up-and-down criticism that has surrounded J.T. Barrett, he and the rest of the seniors have led the Buckeyes to 46 wins in less than four seasons while Barrett himself has broken every notable passing record at Ohio State and, in some cases, the Big Ten. Moreover, this class is not done, with a rivalry game on the line this week, and the Big Ten Championship versus Wisconsin looming ahead.

Emotions certainly ran high Saturday, though, in the seniors’ final game in the Horseshoe. Even Urban Meyer called out the moment: “It was an opportunity to tip a hat to the class...to say thank you to our group of players,” he said. “If you just look at their performance, you look at the way they live their lives, look at the way they represent this great university and represent their families with great honor and character and integrity, and that’s the Ohio State I’ve known since I’ve been a young person.”

“I heard days in the past where you saved the Little Eight and the Big Two. Those days are done.”

-Urban Meyer, via Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland.com

Once upon a time in the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry, coaches might have been able to save a sneaky play or two for the duration of the season for use against their final opponent of the year. Woody Hayes in particular was able to reserve a whole slew of offensive weapons for the rivalry game, given that Ohio State and Michigan, at the time, were so far ahead of the rest of the Big Ten. The Buckeyes didn’t need to pull out all the stops for fellow conference opponents.

Even Jim Tressel in 2006, when Ohio State entered the game as the top team in the country, with Michigan right behind at No. 2, famously lined up wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr. as a tight end, opening up an opportunity for the speedster to beat coverage on a play action pass from Troy Smith. Tressel had not needed to use that play all year, having defeated 10 of 11 opponents by at least 17 points.

Now, however, Ohio State not only has to deal with a better-overall Big Ten, but also with improved out-of-conference scheduling which pits the Buckeyes against top national opponents earlier in the season. Opportunities to simply “keep one in the back pocket” become slim.

Until recently, Michigan was usually the best opponent that Ohio State would face all season. Such is obviously not the case this year. Already this season, Ohio State has faced a top-five Oklahoma team and ranked Penn State and Michigan State squads. Even Urban Meyer has acknowledged that holding onto plays for just the right moment in Week 12 is simply not realistic. However, unlike Tressel’s need to draw up a play to beat the No. 2 team in the country in 2006, Meyer’s squad has faced tougher competition up to this point in the season than what their storied rival brings.

Ohio State isn’t the only team still hoping to sneak into the playoff.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the College Football Playoff picture is anything but clear.

We know the players at the top: No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Miami (Fl.), and No. 4 Oklahoma. Trailing the leaders are playoff hopefuls in No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 6 Auburn, No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 Notre Dame, and No. 9 Ohio State.

Here’s a complete look at the current playoff standings that matter (before the latest rankings are released tomorrow):

How everything plays out seems like it could be relatively straightforward.

If Alabama and Oklahoma win out as expected, they’re both in. And whoever takes home the ACC title between Miami and Clemson will easily secure a spot. That’s three of the four teams locked in.

Simple enough, right?

While this is all based on assumption, that is by far the most likely scenario. Realistically speaking, the only way chaos even enters the picture is if Alabama loses to Auburn on Saturday and/or Georgia in the SEC Championship game. The smart money isn’t on Nick Saban dropping one to either.

But what about the fourth and final team?

Well, that leaves Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Ohio State as the remaining playoff contenders.

We’ll go ahead and scratch out the Fighting Irish considering they’re a two-loss team that’s just a few weeks removed from being blown out by Miami with no conference title to fall back on.

So now we’re left with Wisconsin and Ohio State, who’ve already punched their tickets to the Big Ten Championship.

Ohio State is poised to get into the #CFBPlayoff if they win out pic.twitter.com/Atl2n1xSy7

— Herd w/Colin Cowherd (@TheHerd) November 15, 2017

After taking care of then-No. 20 Michigan last week, the Badgers are set to finish the regular season undefeated. The Buckeyes need only to beat the Wolverines in Ann Arbor to stay in the thick of things.

The winner of the Big Ten Championship game will be rewarded with a playoff spot. Take it to the bank.

As you can see, there are still a fair amount of teams jockeying for postseason positioning. A lot could happen in the coming weeks and the standings might look completely different in another seven days.

The chaos isn’t as likely to occur as you’d think, though. I wouldn’t plan on much changing when it comes to Alabama, Oklahoma, and the ACC champ’s position in the playoff.

What will change is who joins them.

Don’t be surprised when that team is Wisconsin or – Gasp! – Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were playing on the ‘Junior Varsity’ setting on Saturday.

Conference wins don’t come much easier than that.

Ohio State dominated Illinois from the opening snap in their 52-14 win on Senior Day, sending the seniors —and a host of other players heading to the NFL— off in style, while clinching the Big Ten East crown as they head to Ann Arbor this weekend for The Game.

On this episode of The Hangout in the Holyland, Colton Denning and Patrick Mayhorn break down the Buckeyes’ easy win, and their main takeaways from the game, including:

  • Being encouraged about the continued commitment to the running game, and wondering whether Mike Weber just played his final game at Ohio Stadium.
  • How Parris Campbell has become the most underrated player on the team.
  • J.T. Barrett throwing for his 100th career passing touchdown, and why the offense didn’t need to be very creative.
  • Trying to explain the rationale for bringing the starters back into the game up 38-7, and why it’s obvious that Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow still have much to learn.
  • Praising the defense, who looked like they were playing a game of NCAA Football on the ‘junior varsity’ difficulty setting.

The guys also give their thoughts on the legacy of the senior class, why the NFL Draft is going to force the Buckeyes to reload again next season, and give their early impressions on the Michigan game.

The coach also reacts to the passing of Buckeye great Terry Glenn.

After a blowout 52-14 victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday, attention turned to Saturday’s rivalry game against the Michigan Wolverines. However, this morning, Ohio State fans were stunned by the news that Buckeye legend Terry Glenn had been killed in a car accident.

With the fandom’s focus split between “The Game” and remembering an OSU great, Urban Meyer took to the podium for his weekly press conference to set the stage for the regular season finale against That Team Up North.

While the Buckeyes currently sit at No. 9 in the College Football Playoff rankings with just two weeks to play, there is still a legitimate path to making the final four. The most obvious route would require OSU to win out, and for No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Miami to do the same, eliminating other one and two-loss teams from contention. However, despite the possibility, Meyer was not interested in discussing potential postseason destinations for his team.

Illinois Recap

Michigan Preview

  • Meyer said that being in the toughest division in college football means that it is nearly impossible to “save things” for the Michigan game.
  • He added that it is no longer the big eight and the little two in the Big Ten conference.
  • Meyer mentioned that the history of the rivalry game has shown that both teams will play their best on Saturday.
  • The coach said that the staff has been doing film study for the Michigan game longer than normal.
  • Meyer said that the team’s base zone-read scheme, that you have to have impactful play from the guards. With Jordan and Knox playing well as of late, that has been an important part of this season’s success.
  • He said that this rivalry is not just a one-week thing at Ohio State. He added that he learned that from Woody Hayes, Earl Bruce, and Jim Tressel that you have to have this rivalry in your blood to fully appreciate it.
  • Meyer said, “Darn near every day you get reminded of this game. There would have to be something wrong with you not to get it.”
  • The coach added that the team is “extremely focused.”
  • Meyer said that he doesn’t think that the history of the rivalry doesn’t impact his young players, because they can pop in the tape and see how good of a team they have been this year and last year.
  • The coach said that there is “ridiculous pressure” in the recruiting battle between OSU and Michigan.
  • Meyer said that no matter who ends up playing quarterback for Michigan, they will still be a downhill running team.
Depth Chart

  • Meyer said that with time, the Buckeye offensive line has gained maturity, making them one of the most improved position groups on the team this year.
  • The running back split is something naturally developed, rather than a pre-season plan.
Miscellaneous

  • Meyer gives credit to former offensive coordinator Tom Herman for “finding” J.T. Barrett in their first recruiting class. They had been focusing on Mitch Trubisky and Malik Zaire, but they ended up going elsewhere, so he put a lot of trust in Herman.
  • Meyer said that he just heard about Terry Glenn’s death just before the press conference started. He added that he didn’t know the former receiver well, but that his loss is incredibly sad.
  • Meyer said that Earl Bruce has been very important to his understanding of the rivalry. He taught him the intensity and respect that the rivalry requires.
  • The coach added that when the OSU staff was told that Bruce’s final game would be against Michigan, he didn’t believe it, but that the team found a way to win the game.
  • He said that it was very emotional to see Bruce win his final game.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will wrap up the regular season by traveling to Ann Arbor, MI to take on the Michigan Wolverines this Saturday. The game will kick off at 12:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FOX. The network’s coverage will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET.
