What year was Ohio State's best offense? What year was Ohio State's best defense?

Offense: 2014 team. After starting sort of slow (scored 34 in a win against Navy and 21 in the only loss of the year to Va Tech), they scored 42+ points a game in 13 of their 15 final games (the two they didn't were both 31-point games against Penn State and Minnesota). They scored 672 points totals for the year (44.8 ppg) and 617 points (47.5 ppg) after their "slow start".

Defense: 1973 team, and it's not even close. They gave up two TDs and two FGs total in their first eight games, and of those only one TD in a five-game stretch. I'll say that again: The defense gave up a single score in a five-game stretch. In their final two regular seasons games, they gave up 13 to Iowa and 10 to Michigan. For the regular season--10 games--they surrendered a grand total of 43 points. They did give up 21 to USC in the Rose Bowl, but their offense scored 42 points.

Ohio State @ Oregon, Thursday Jan. 8, 1030pm EST, BTN

Too late of a game to be stay up to watch on a work night but I just watched the highlights without knowing what happened and was shocked when Ohio State went from like a 3 point lead to 24 in a blink of the eye in the 2nd half.

Very nice road win I didn't expect them to get. It be nice if Ohio State makes the tournament considering Kentucky blows this year and has no shot.

After naming Bama and OSU his top2 a month ago, IOL Reed Ramsier now has a top3 of FL, Miami, and Auburn.
Similar to Davis Seaman that I shared above, I think we're set at IOL and moved on. I'm still expecting us to spend big for a 5*-type OT, and an additional OT (such as Kalis or Johnson), and possibly another swing player.

I finally saw this game. First of all, a bit surprised Evan Turner repeatedly pronounced Devin Royal's name as "Royale" ... anyways, it really was a team effort in this game with a number of Buckeyes contributing at times offensively, and that's really critical for this or any team really. I don't think anyone here mentioned it, but Diebler strategically switched to a 1-3-1 zone defense, which pushed Rutgers guards past the 3-point arc, and it worked really well. I think certainly being able to adapt and change as necessary is vital for this team being able to win games like this. Diebler also has been pretty good at getting these guys to score out of timeouts, and it happened again in this game. Ogbole for Rutgers was a beast on the glass - very big, strong, quick and high motor - so I can see why OSU struggled with offensive rebounds against him - that being said, you don't want to give up that many offensive rebounds. I would have liked to seen Bynum in particular go a little harder on pursuing defensive rebounds. Tilly I think always is going to struggle a little bit on the glass in a particularly frustrating way, but it is what it is.
