I said they were small because he was playing well earlier in the game. Maybe just fatigue from the first game of the season and he’s playing more than he has in a few years. I’ll be watching and rooting for him this season.

After practicing in a local park and sending highlight videos out to more than 50 colleges, he finally got an invitation to kick from public community college Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio in 2021.

Matsuzawa became a kickoff specialist initially at Hocking College and would eventually work his way up to being the main kicker before getting an offer from Hawaii in 2023. Fast forward to Week 0 of the 2025 season, and Matsuzawa found himself in a position that most kickers dream of...

More complex than that….he seems like a great guy, but at time of recruitment outta HS, Bama and OSU were worried about grade issues and potential eligibility…..he bounced around HS’s a lot bc of his home life and actually experienced homelessness for stretches at a time.

Ga Tech became the best option when Tashard Choice took on a father role for him. Tashard Choice was RB coach at Ga Tech and has now been hired to be RB’s coach for the Lions, reuniting them.

After (2) seasons at Ga Tech, and not having significant issues, he proved he could handle the rigors of being a college athlete and Bama ended up landing his services.

It’s actually a great story in the end….
