Rule against selling stuff?

Speaking of which, a single engine Cessna recently crashed into some property I own near the Mexico-Arizona border. The pilot was, unfortunately, deceased on the scene giving me full legal rights of claim. Needless to say, I have several dozen kilos pounds of salvage to sell. Hoping somebody can help me take this off my hands.

I'm interested, but you have to tell me if you are a cop. Because me being a 22 year old coed DG gal needs to know.

Kaleb Wesson more than made up for being shut out by Purdue.

Coming off the high of winning in West Lafayette on Wednesday, the Ohio State Buckeyes (22-5, 13-1) avoided walking into the proverbial trap game as they dispatched the Iowa Hawkeyes (12-15, 3-11), 82-64. With the win, OSU takes the all-time, series lead between the programs, 80-79.

The Buckeyes beat the Hawkeyes early in the Big Ten season, but Iowa gave OSU all they could handle in Iowa City. Ohio State won the first matchup by the score of 92-81. However, in Saturday’s game at the Value City Arena, the Buckeyes used a 14-0 run early in the second half and a tremendous defensive effort to put the rematch out of hand for the home team.

With the win, Ohio State effectively opens up a two-game lead in the Big Ten by virtue of holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over both Purdue and Michigan State. MSU beat the Boilermakers right after action tipped off in Columbus to give both teams two losses in conference play.

With guard Kam Williams still not in the lineup due to an indefinite suspension, the Buckeyes opened up the game strong, with Kaleb Wesson making up for his lack of contribution against Purdue, where he was held scoreless for the first time in his career. The younger of the Wesson brothers accounted for six of OSU’s first nine points, including an old-fashioned three-point play after cleaning up the rebound from his brother Andre’s missed three-pointer.

After a steal by Andrew Dakich, Micah Potter came up short on an awkward dunk attempt, one possession after he missed a bunny down low. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, Keita Bates-Diop was more on his game, hitting his first two shots, both from behind the arc. Jae’Sean Tate was also making his presence felt early, including a slick cut into the lane and one of his patented left-handed layups.

Bates-Diop would add a free throw, but that would be his only points in the first half, and Tate would add another bucket before the break. The veteran pair went into the intermission with seven and four points respectively.

With four players averaging in double figures, Iowa saw balanced scoring early in the game. Tyler Cook, Jordan Bohannon, Luke Garza, and Isaiah Moss all got into the scoring column as the Hawkeyes took a 16-15 lead with 10:39 remaining in the first half.

By the time the first 20 minutes were up, freshman Jack Nunge had also made a contribution equalling Bohannon and Garza with eight points to lead the Hawkeyes. Cook had four, and Moss, a pair.

However, after C.J. Jackson gave it up to an unsuspecting Tate who finished with a fastbreak dunk, Tate then drew an offensive foul on Cook, his second of the game forcing him to the bench. On the strength of an 8-0 run in 1:18, OSU reclaimed the lead 23-20 at the under-eight timeout.

The Buckeyes increased their lead thanks to some resurgent three-point shooting as Andre Wesson, Dakich, and Jackson (twice) all connected from deep. Jackson picked up the other kind of three-pointer as he created and collected a turnover, before dicing through the lane for the hoop and the harm to give OSU their largest lead of the game at the time, 42-30. Iowa would hit two free throws before halftime.

Jackson led all scorers going into the break with 11, and after missing his last 10 three-point attempts coming into the game, his hot hand was a welcome addition to the Buckeye scoring arsenal against Iowa. Kaleb Wesson also had 10 to go along with four rebounds. He did pick up his second personal on a suspect offensive foul call late in the first half.

— Land-Grant Holy Land (@Landgrant33) February 10, 2018

Ohio State returned a bit to their early-season shooting form, hitting 6-of-10 attempts (60%) from downtown in the first 20 minutes for a slightly better percentage than their overall from the field, 56 percent (14-of-25). Iowa on the other hand shot a solid 50 percent (14-of-28) from the field, but a disappointing 2-of-9 (22.2%) from distance.

The Buckeyes also held a significant advantage from the charity strip, as they were 8-for-12, while the Hawkeyes were only 2-for-3, despite committing only two more personals than OSU.

Coming out of the break, the Buckeyes were on fire, connecting on five of their first eight attempts from the floor, including a 10-0 run to balloon their lead to 54-26. In the run, Tate finished a determined drive to the basket and hit a corner three, which prompted Iowa coach Fran McCaffery to call a timeout just over four minutes into the half.

— Land-Grant Holy Land (@Landgrant33) February 11, 2018

The run eventually got to 14-0 before Cook hit a jumper, but that only stopped the Buckeye scoring momentarily, as OSU eventually increased the lead to 25 following an “and-1” from Dakich at the 11:00 mark.

At that point, McCaffery started giving more playing time to some of his bench players. Shortly thereafter, Jackson appeared to get injured and/or cramp up and had to exit the game and head into the locker room with the outcome all but decided.

With Jackson out of the game, Musa Jallow entered and scored on his first two offensive possessions, just one week after turning 18. Kaleb Wesson had the six points surrounding Jallow’s buckets, en route to 18 points—just one shy of his career high. The freshman big man lead the Buckeyes in points for the first time in his career. He also supplied seven rebounds in just 24 minutes of action.

Just before the two-minute mark, Potter redeemed himself for his first-half miss with an emphatic dunk to give him 10 on the night, and to become the fifth Buckeye to go for double-digits. From there, Holtmann emptied the bench as a handful of walk-ons got some playing time.

After committing just a single turnover in the second half against Purdue, the Buckeyes didn’t have any, until the final two minutes, when all of the subs were on the floor.

Nunge equalled Kaleb Wesson with 18, leading the way for the Hawkeyes. Only Bohannon (11) joined him in double-figures.

The Buckeyes will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 15 in Happy Valley as they look to avenge their only Big Ten loss. Penn State and Ohio State will tip off at 8 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

The Buckeyes improve to 2-0 on the young season with a win over a ranked opponent.

The No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes men’s lacrosse team maintained its perfect early-season record with a 15-9 win over the No. 20 Boston University Terriers Saturday in a sold-out game in Columbus.

Sophomore midfielder Christian Feliziani, who was last week’s Big Ten Specialist of the Week, won the opening faceoff, setting the Buckeyes up for a quick goal from freshman attackman J.T. Bugliosi just over a minute into play. Feliziani won the ensuing faceoff and took the ball himself for his first goal of the season just eight seconds later.

After trading possessions with the Terriers, freshman midfielder Jackson Reid found the back of the net to put the Buckeyes up 3-0 with 9:57 remaining in the first quarter. Freshman midfielder Justin Inacio came in to relieve Feliziani, winning the faceoff and leading to a quick goal from sophomore attackman Tre Leclaire. The Buckeyes won the next faceoff, but turned to ball over to Boston University. After a minute-long possession, senior goalie Matthew Smidt recorded his first save of the day on a shot from Thomas Schmidt. Smidt cleared and gave the Buckeyes the ball on offense, leading to Reid’s second score of the day midway through the quarter. Two more goals from senior attackman Hank Bethke and sophomore defenseman Jeff Henrick gave Ohio State a 7-0 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Despite getting the ball on attack early in the second quarter, the Terriers were unable to capitalize on two shot attempts down low. Ohio State instead took the ball back on a clear for a quick score from junior midfielder Logan Maccani. After trading possessions, Boston University capitalized on a man-up opportunity following an illegal procedure penalty from Ohio State, finally getting on the board with 9:37 remaining in the first half.

Leclaire bounced back for the Buckeyes, scoring his second goal of the game on an assist by junior attackman Gale Thorpe. Neither team was able to find the back of the net for several minutes until Leclaire connected once again with 1:44 remaining in the half for his third goal of the day, assisted by junior attackman Jack Jasinski, to give the Buckeyes a 10-1 lead at the break.

The Terriers emerged strong in the second half, scoring four goals in less than six minutes to cut the Buckeyes’ lead to five. A timeout by Ohio State slowed things down a bit, and the Buckeyes finally found the back of the net once again on a goal by Jasinski midway through the quarter. Reid followed up with his third and fourth goals of the game to put Ohio State up 13-5. After a goal from BU’s Schmidt, Ohio State headed into the final quarter of play with a seven-goal advantage.

BU scored just 18 seconds into the fourth quarter to cut the Buckeyes’ lead to six, but no one scored again until the 6:45 mark when senior midfielder John Kelly connected on his first goal of the day. Jasinski followed up with the Buckeyes’ final score of the game with 3:59 remaining in the fourth.

Reid led Ohio State in scoring with four goals on the day, followed by Leclaire’s three and Jasinski’s two. In all, nine Buckeyes scored against BU.

The Buckeyes held a 28-24 advantage in shots on goal on the day. Smidt had a career-high 15 saves to BU goalie Joe McSorley’s 13. Ohio State, led by Feliziani and Inacio, went 16-for-27 on faceoffs against the Terriers, and the Buckeyes collected 42 groundballs to the Terriers’ 36. Senior defenseman Freddy Freibott and Feliziani led Ohio State, each collecting five groundballs on the day.

Next up, the Buckeyes are scheduled to face Hofstra next Saturday in Columbus.

The Buckeyes look to follow-up their big win over Purdue against a struggling Hawkeye squad.

The No. 14 Ohio State Buckeyes upset the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers Wednesday night in West Lafayette, Ind. Now, the Buckeyes head back to Columbus to face an Iowa team that hasn’t won a game since January.

More heroics from forward Keita Bates-Diop sealed the win over Purdue for Ohio State earlier this week, as he tipped in a miss from Jae’Sean Tate to put the Buckeyes up by one in the final seconds of the game. The junior finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season as Ohio State improved to 21-5 on the season and 12-1 in conference play. Importantly, Ohio State managed the win without senior guard Kam Williams, who was suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules prior to the Buckeyes’ win over Illinois. Williams is expected to be out once again tonight against Iowa.

Ohio State’s win Wednesday ended Purdue’s 19-game win streak. With the win, the Buckeyes hold the tiebreaker for the top spot in the Big Ten standings over both the Boilermakers and Michigan State Spartans. In the current AP Poll, Ohio State now holds two wins over top-5 teams and has an overall highly-competitive tournament resume. The Buckeyes have risen to 13th in the latest Kenpom ratings, third in the Big Ten behind the Spartans and Boilermakers.

Iowa is definitely down this year, with the Hawkeyes 11th in the Big Ten conference standings--the same spot Ohio State was expected to finish at in the preseason. The Hawkeyes have won just three conference games this season and hold a 12-14 overall record.

In general, Iowa has been a wildly inconsistent team this season. After getting blown out by Penn State by 24 on the road, Iowa returned home to lose to No. 4 Michigan State by just three. While capable of scoring a lot of points on offense, they haven’t proven able to defend quite so readily.

Fran McCaffery is in his eighth season with the Hawkeyes, and is having his worst year since taking over the program in 2010 when Iowa went 4-14 in conference play. McCaffery is 149-115 overall in his time in Iowa City, including 67-72 in conference.

The Hawkeyes dropped their last game against Ohio State early in January, 92-81, but Iowa holds the all-time edge 77-74. Overall, the Buckeyes are 814-714 against current members of the Big Ten.

Numbers to know

8

How many turnovers the Buckeyes had against Purdue Wednesday. That’s a huge improvement from the 15 Ohio State committed previously against Illinois (granted, Illinois is one of the best teams in the nation in taking the ball away). Turnovers have been a point of emphasis for Chris Holtmann in his first season in Columbus, especially when it comes to his point guards protecting the ball, but the Buckeyes were still averaging 12 per game heading into their matchup with the Boilermakers. It is a positive trend to see Ohio State able to protect the ball against tough competition like Purdue--a team that normally takes the ball away more than 13 times per game. Iowa, meanwhile, is averaging 13 turnovers per game while forcing 11.6.

18.7

The number of assists per game that Iowa has had this season, which is good for fourth in the NCAA. Point guard Jordan Bohannon leads in the category, averaging 5.3 per game. Bohannon has had six games with 10 or more assists in his career, and all of his double-doubles in his two years with the Hawkeyes have come off points and assists. Earlier this season, Iowa collectively accounted for 34 assists on just 36 field goals against Northern Illinois. Most recently against Michigan State, all five of Iowa’s starters had at least three assists on the day, accounting for 21 of the team’s 26 assists. Even more impressively, the Hawkeyes committed just eight turnovers against the Spartans. While Ohio State does not struggle with sharing the ball (the Buckeyes average 14.9 assists per game), they certainly have not been as adept as the Hawkeyes in that category this season.

78.3

How many points Iowa has given up per game on average this season. That’s really bad. Like, worst-in-the-Big-Ten-bad. The Buckeyes are averaging 76.9 points offensively per game, but dropped 92 on the Hawkeyes in their last go-round in early January. Iowa has allowed at least 90 points in five conference games, and are 1-4 in such circumstances. Their only win came against Illinois, when the Hawkeyes managed 107 points on the offensive side of the ball. Iowa’s scoring margin is just +2.4 this season, and their 12 wins this year have all come when the Hawkeyes have scored at least 80 points. Ohio State, on the other hand, gives up just 66.1 points per game, and has a +10.8 scoring margin. While Iowa has some strong offensive weapons in Tyler Cook, Luka Garza and Jordan Bohannon, they have not, as a team, been able to translate that power to the other side of the court on defense.

Cast of characters

Ohio State

Kaleb Wesson

The freshman’s brother, Andre, had 10 points against Purdue Wednesday. Kaleb, meanwhile, had none in 12 minutes, sitting much of the game after getting into foul trouble going up against the Boilermakers’ Isaac Haas. It was a disappointing performance for a player who is averaging in double figures during his inaugural season with the Buckeyes. The two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week has started 22 of 25 games so far this season, and is one of the best shooters on Chris Holtmann’s squad, connecting on 57 percent of his attempts from the field. He is also one of the best in the Big Ten in offensive rebounds, pulling down 2.3 per game. In his last game versus the Hawkeyes, Wesson fouled out with 10 points. Expect an improved performance this evening.

Keita Bates-Diop

The story of the Buckeyes’ season could not be told without Bates-Diop, who has not only proven to be a consistent shooter and scorer, but also a clutch player able to make shots when they count--like in the final seconds against Purdue. That combination is why the junior forward is suddenly in the conversation for nearly every major basketball award this season, including the Wooden Award, the Oscar Robertson Trophy and Big Ten Player of the Year. Bates-Diop leads the Big Ten in scoring with 20.2 points per game, and is third in rebounding with nine per game. His ability to shoot from range and from the line all while playing strong defense makes him one of the most multifaceted players in the conference.

Iowa

Tyler Cook

The sophomore from St. Louis has been having an excellent season despite his team’s record. Cook is averaging 15.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game--both team highs. A reliable shooter, the 6-foot-9 forward is connecting on more than 57 percent of his shots from the field. Most recently, Cook dropped 26 points on Michigan State. He’s shown the ability to draw fouls--something that Purdue’s Isaac Haas was able to do against Ohio State Wednesday--which can put defenses in precarious situations down low. Cook has also been flashy at points, and has had 50 dunks this season. In Iowa’s last game versus the Buckeyes, Cook was the leading scorer for the Hawkeyes with 21 points on the day. And he continues to get better, even as Iowa slips. Four of his five double-doubles this season have come in his last seven games.

Jordan Bohannon

The point guard was questionable for the Hawkeyes’ outing against Michigan State earlier this week, but he started, played 32 minutes and recorded 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Along with Cook, Bohannon has been a rare, shining beacon on an otherwise struggling team. He is second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. The sophomore is one of the best three-point shooters in the conference, and has scored on 44.4 percent of his attempts from range. This season, he leads the Big Ten in three-pointers made with 75. When he is not shooting, Bohannon is an effective passer, averaging a team-best 5.3 assists per game. He is also clutch from the free throw line, connecting on greater than 89 percent of his attempts, and hasn’t missed in 30 tries. In fact, the last time Bohannon missed a free throw was in Iowa’s last game versus Ohio State. Bohannan is a microcosm of Iowa’s story this season. While he is an outstanding offensive weapon, his defense has serious room for improvement.

The Irish clinched the Big Ten regular season title in their first year in the conference.

It’s hard to be upset about a one goal loss on the road to the No. 1 team, but boy did it feel like the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes had something to prove going into this one.

Despite losing 6-3 to Michigan State last Saturday, Ohio State came in winners of eight out of 10 since the winter break and 10 of their 12 twelve overall. This was their first real test against tippy-top national competition since sweeping Minnesota in early December. Plus there was the sweep No. 1 Notre Dame handed to the Buckeyes the first weekend of November.

The Buckeyes had a national showcase on NBCSN with the Olympic Opening Ceremony serving as NBC’s only major Olympic coverage on the night. National brand and No. 1 Notre Dame hosting the upstart Buckeyes on national television. Maybe they can get revenge on NBCSports.com tomorrow night.

It was a low scoring affair with plenty of action, however, and Ohio State coming achingly close to tying it up in the waning minutes of Friday night’s affair. But no matter how close they got with the extra attacker and on the powerplay in the final minutes, Cale Morris was in the way.

The Irish goalie outdueled Sean Romeo by stopping 31/32 shots on net to Romeo’s 27/29 and shutting Ohio State out for the last 33:08 of the game. This was even despite Ohio State, with their 23.5 percent power play, having five power play opportunities on the night. They’d convert one in the second period, but that’d be it. They’d have two in the third period alone but convert on neither.

Ohio State, on the other hand, didn’t exactly do a great of staying out of the box themselves. They took seven penalties themselves and, even with a 90.4 percent success rate on the penalty kill, taking penalties against the No. 1 team in the nation is probably not the best way to beat them. Especially when you lead for exactly zero seconds in this game.

Andrew Oglevie scored Notre Dame’s first goal at 12:49 of the first, from Dylan Malmquist and Cal Burke, and that’d be the only tally in the first period. Malmquist hit Oglevie on a cross ice pass as no Ohio State defender covered the cross ice pass for whatever reason and just like that, Notre Dame was up one.

OSU outshot the Irish 10-7 in the first period, but when the other team scores halfway through and takes a lead, 10-7 is probably what should happen if you’re the No. 6 team. Notre Dame isn’t a team known for pushing the play as they’ll sit back and let Morris keep them in front. And he did just that, at least for awhile.

In the second, on the powerplay, Ohio State would finally get on the board. Kevin Miller scored on the powerplay after Mike O’Leary took a high sticking penalty to give OSU the man advantage. John Wiitala and Gordi Myer had the helpers on Miller’s fourth of the year at 6:52.

Notre Dame, unfortunately, would answer back just 2:44 later on a fluky shot Romeo probably saves 99/100 times. Jordan Gross scored on a fluky shot in the slot that looked like he was just firing on net. Romeo looked like hey may have been screened as two skaters crossed his eye line simultaneous with the shot. It also may have been deflected by a pressuring OSU defender. Either way, it found its way in. And that fluke would be the difference.

Ohio State would put pressure on Notre Dame late in the third with a powerplay after Jake Evans took a boarding call with 6:46 left in the game. They’d kill that off despite OSU pressure and continued to hold Ohio State out from many golden opportunities after Romeo was sent off for the extra attacker.

Cale Morris made some big saves on what did get through to him and shut the door on the 2-1 victory and Big Ten regular season championship. Not a bad accomplishment for the first year in the conference.

Ohio State came into tonight with a six-point lead on third place Wisconsin for second place, as they take on Minnesota this weekend. If those two teams split and Ohio State gets nothing out of Saturday’s rematch with the Irish, they’ll still be up three points headed into the last two weekend series with Minnesota and Wisconsin. Not a bad place to be in, all things considered.

But Ohio State will look to prevent that and at least salvage a point tomorrow as they once again play at No. 1 Notre Dame. The Buckeyes outshot them and lost on a fluky goal. There’s no reason they can’t do better than a single point tomorrow night.

Plus, Buckeye baseball is about to begin and some second-year NFL players are being recognized.

“The Ohio State softball team kicks off its 2018 season this weekend when it travels to Boca Raton, Fla., for five games against four opponents as part of the FAU “First Pitch” Classic, beginning Friday.”

-Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State softball season got started Friday morning in Florida, with the Buckeyes taking on NIU in their debut matchup for the 2018 season. After a slow start through two innings, Ohio State’s Ashley Goodwin nailed a 3-RBI double to left-center to put the Buckeyes up 4-1.

As if that lead wasn’t solid enough, the fourth inning saw the kind of moment that you build an entire season around: it’s the bottom of the fourth, bases loaded. Sophomore Emily Clark steps up to the plate. Strike 1. Clark readies for the second pitch, connects, and IT’S OUT OF HERE FOLKS! GRAND SLAM! Clark adds four more runs to the scoreboard, putting the Buckeyes up 8-1. Clark would continue her dominance, connecting on a double in the sixth inning, bringing shortstop Lilli Piper in for her third score of the game. Ohio State finished 9-1 in their first action of the day, and set the foundation for the type of run they hope to make in 2018.

The Buckeyes’ second matchup of the double-header was against Duke. This season marks the first in Blue Devils’ history where the school has featured a softball program. Despite being relatively new to the world of competitive collegiate softball, Duke held the Buckeyes to a close 2-1 score heading into the third inning. But, Piper nailed a double down the right field line, bringing home two, to put the Buckeyes up 3-2 heading into the fourth.

Ohio State would score two more before the final at-bat, for a 5-2 win, finishing their first day of the 2018 season at 2-0. The Buckeyes will continue their first tournament of the season through the weekend, facing tournament host FAU on Saturday evening followed by a second go-around with NIU, before finishing up on Sunday against Boston University.

“I see a great deal of maturity and growth in our entire ball club. I talked about last year one time and that was it. I think there’s a sense of urgency. They know that we need to do better as a program. There’s a significant difference in the drive this ball club has.”

-Ohio State baseball head coach Greg Beals, via Ohio State Buckeyes

With softball season now underway, it’s just a matter of time before the Ohio State baseball team sees the first pitch of 2018. This year’s team has a lot of pressure already on its shoulders, coming off of a 2017 season in which the team went 22-34 overall. This year though, the team returns 22 letter-winners, in addition to 10 newbies.

Opening day is still a week away — Feb. 16-18 at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida — but Coach Beals and players are optimistic about their chances. (Especially given the schedule the coach has put together for the year.) He’s filled the schedule with tough, regional matchups that should keep the team in the hunt for an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.

One of their strengths this season should be on the pitchers mound. During the Buckeyes’ impressive Big Ten tournament run in 2016, six of the pitchers still on the 2018 roster saw significant innings. Leading the way this season will be fifth-year captains Adam Niemeyer and Kyle Michalik, who have made 39 and 61 career appearances, respectively.

“Sifting through the plethora of data we have at our fingertips at PFF and coinciding with the release of our Top 101 players from the 2017 season, PFF’s Mark Chichester takes a look at the highest-graded second-year players regardless of position from the 2017-18 campaign.”

-Mark Chichester, ProFootball Focus

As ProFootball Focus took a look at the best second-year players in the NFL, it’s no surprise that a couple of former Ohio State players made the list — especially given two years ago featured a history-making draft class for the Buckeyes. The two Ohio State alumni to earn the honors: Michael Thomas and Joey Bosa.

Thomas has been setting and besting offensive records throughout his two years in the league, and as scary as it sounds, he’s probably just getting started. One of the most targeted receivers to ever begin his NFL career, Thomas has claimed 196 receptions over the past two regular seasons, good for 2,382 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

According to PFF, Thomas had the third best contested catch rating among NFL receivers in 2017, snagging 56.3% of the balls he battled for. Thomas might not be a red zone target for the Saints, but with an average of 12.2 yards per catch, he’s almost always good to move the chains.

The second Buckeye on the list of top 10 sophomores in the NFL is former Defensive Rookie of the Year winner Joey Bosa. Another former Ohio State player to enter the league and start re-writing the record books from Day 1, Bosa -- as part of one of the best pass-rushing duos in the entire league — has been productive in his two years, claiming 23.0 sacks (12.5 in 2017) and 83 solo tackles.

Both Thomas and Bosa should find their names among the best in the league for years to come.
