Plus, the Buckeye fencers are vying for an NCAA Championship and more.

“Ohio State’s Jae’Sean Tate has been selected to participate in the inaugural Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship.”

-Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes may have been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament in the Round of 32, but at least one player will get another chance to suit up before calling it a college career. Senior Jae’Sean Tate will compete in this three-day event, which will pit 32 four-man teams (including players from every DI basketball conference) in a 3-on-3 tournament.

Teams will feature seniors who are out of college eligibility and will compete for a $100k prize pool, with each game adding at least a grand to the team’s purse. Tate will be one of four Big Ten players to have the opportunity to show off in front of scouts one last time, with each conference’s competitors now-playing for the same team.

“For fans, this will be an opportunity to see the nation’s top seniors compete in the rapidly growing and fast-paced nature of 3-on-3 basketball,” said Drew Russell, Intersport’s Vice President of Sports Properties. “For players, it will be one last opportunity to showcase their skills on a national stage and give them the chance to earn a significant sum of money. It will also expose them to the 3-on-3 format which may lead to new opportunities as they take the next step in their professional careers.”

The Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship will get underway next Friday, March 30 and will continue through Sunday, April 1, and can be seen on ESPN2 or streamed live on Twitter.

“The Ohio State fencing team finished the first day of the NCAA Championships in fourth place with 51 points.”

-Ohio State Buckeyes

After the max number of competitors qualified to represent Ohio State, there are plenty of Buckeyes to help claim both individual and team awards at the 2018 Fencing NCAA Championships. The first day of competition featured three rounds of women’s matchups, with each Buckeye fencer facing 15 total opponents. (That sounds exhausting.)

Day 1 was led by the foil unit, which featured two first-time title competitors, Camilla Rivano and Gabriela Cecchini. The two finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, and added 22 points to the overall team count — 11 wins each.

Additionally Emma von Dadelszen finished the first day of competition with 11 victories (good for fourth place) and Alexanne Verret claimed six victories to land in 15th place. Finally, the sabre unit added 12 points to the teal total, thanks to the 10 wins from Sarah Merza (sixth place) and Maddalena Bosetti’s two victories (landing in 23rd place).

The women’s competition will wrap up on Friday, March 23, with the men’s competition getting underway on Saturday through Sunday.

“No. 18/19 Ohio State kicks off Big Ten action this weekend with a three-game series at Indiana.”

-Ohio State Buckeyes

After a solid start to the season, the Buckeyes are finally getting into Big Ten play after a couple months of road-trip tournaments. Their first competition will be on the road, in a three-game series this weekend against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Ohio State seems to hold the advantage heading into conference play, boasting a 19-4 record compared to the 7-21 record the Hoosiers started the season with. History may not be on the Buckeyes’ side, with the overall series favoring Indiana, 47-58-2. The Buckeyes did win two of three matches in 2017, winning the rubber match thanks to five home runs hits.

Home runs have sort of become second-nature to the Buckeyes, having connected on 29 homers through 23 games. Their home run stats, and others, are good enough to keep Ohio State among the top-five Big Ten schools in batting average (.265), slugging percentage (.473), doubles (40), home runs (29), earned run average (2.07) and fielding percentage (.970).

Following this weekend’s road trip, the Buckeyes will finally get back to Columbus for their home opener against Kentucky on Wednesday, March 28 at 6 p.m. ET.

Will this one-time Ohio native come home again?

Yesterday morning was eventful to say the least for the Buckeye football program. With Ohio State at full-speed for spring practice and then hosting their Pro-Day, there wasn’t a second of down time inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. With media eyes glued during morning practice to the three amigos battling for the quarterback starting role, the pressure was on. To add to it, NFL scouts, head coaches and the like from literally every professional franchise were in attendance to see what the graduated Buckeyes have to offer their future, hopeful employers.

As Urban Meyer and his staff have put together a recipe for success in Columbus with first round NFL Draft picks, the ability to showcase via social media and beyond to top recruits around the country what exactly is taking place at OSU is something their creative media team is doing without a break. Fortunately, the Buckeyes keep reloading, and the recipe for success only changes in terms of who the names. Thursday was another reason why the future continues to be bright for the Buckeyes—and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.

There’s no place like home

Enter 2019. 4-star receiver prospect, Garrett Wilson and you have not only the former teammate of Matthew Baldwin at Lake Travis, but also his top target. Wilson, a 6-foot, 185-pound speedster ranks nationally as the 80th best prospect at any spot in the country for the 2019 haul, and specifically, as the 14th best receiver and 11th best player in a loaded state of Texas. Ironically, Wilson’s first home was made in Ohio as the Columbus native since moved to Austin, Texas.

Back where it all started.. #GoBucks

— Garrett Wilson (@GarrettWilson_V) March 22, 2018

Where Ohio State comes in is obvious. Being a top program in college football, but having Garrett familiar with the program due to his native hometown, and now having a former teammate in uniform really puts the Buckeyes in the thick of this recruitment.

O-H... #GoBucks https://t.co/K5zbxNrz8l

— Matthew Baldwin (@matthewb_12) March 22, 2018

Yesterday, Wilson was back in Ohio as he unofficially visits Ohio State this weekend. While Meyer and staff will look to roll out the scarlet carpet for Garrett, it’s important to note that Baldwin, too, will be able to be in his ear about what the Buckeyes have to offer. The Texas star currently holds over 30 offers, but Texas is the one leading the way on the 247sports crystal ball predictions.

If anyone has gone into Texas and taken a top prospect north, it’s Meyer—and he will look to do the same for Garrett. Luckily, he’ll have help, even if it’s not necessary. With Wilson back in town, there’s no telling what the Buckeyes will be able to do. Who knows, he may even decide it’s time to come back home.

Border protection

The Buckeyes 2019 recruiting efforts look to be starting off pretty well. With a priority to keep the best in-state Ohio kids at home and playing for the Buckeyes, Meyer and his staff will continue their strongest efforts to the kids close to campus. They already have Mentor, Ohio product Ryan Jacoby in the fold, but they have big time plans to keep the trend alive. Today, another top Ohio talent in Zeke Correll will be on campus to unofficially visit Ohio State for yet another time.

The No. 10 offensive guard in the country, Zeke is also the fifth best product in the Buckeye state for 2019. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound guard has not only great size, but also great feet to be a true run game and pass blocker. The Cincinnati native has over 20 scholarship offers, but many believe this recruitment to be a two-horse race between Ohio State and of course, like many other Cincinnati prospects, Notre Dame. After already being at Ohio State this past Feb. 9, Zeke will be back in Columbus today; the staff is hoping today continues to solidify a relationship between the two parties, which eventually (hopefully) ends in a pledge to stay at home and suit up for the Buckeyes.

Quick Hits:

  • Four-star, Aledo (TX) wide receiver Jeffery Carter released his top-10 schools yesterday and included Ohio State. Also making the cut included Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, USC, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oregon, Penn State and Texas. The leader right now, however, is thought to be Texas A&M.
  • Four-star, St. John Bosco tight end prospect Jude Wolfe also released a top list of schools. Making the cut were Washington, USC, Oregon, Michigan, Notre Dame, UCLA, Alabama and Ohio State. The California native is likely to be a USC lean, but a visit to Ohio State could come this summer.
  • On an unofficial visit to Ohio State yesterday, the top player from Kansas, Marcus Hicks, enjoyed time with Meyer and seeing what practice looks like. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end checks out as a four-star and holds 20 offers.

Terrelle Pryor agrees to sign with the New York Jets in NFL free agency, per reports

TP will join Teddy Bridgewater in an effort to rebuild their careers with the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets.

The former Ohio State quarterback-turned-NFL receiver, Terrelle Pryor Sr. has reportedly agreed to join the New York Jets, according to multiple sources, including Sports Illustrated. The terms for the new deal have not yet been announced. A year after signing a one-year “prove it” deal with Washington, the Buckeye will now try and repeat his 1,000-plus yard season from 2016.

Terrelle Pryor has reportedly agreed to sign with the Jets https://t.co/OXZJ8clpRp

— Sports Illustrated (@SInow) March 23, 2018

The former electric Ohio State quarterback is yet another move in an interesting free agency period for Gang Green. In addition to signing former Viking QB Teddy Bridgewater, the Jets made a massive move to get Indianapolis’ third-overall pick in this spring’s draft. Like Bridgewater— who has effectively been out since before 2016 season with a torn ACL— Pryor will be looking to rediscover previous NFL success.

Pryor has been a bit of a question mark throughout his NFL career. From earning his first spot on a roster via the Supplemental Draft, to making the change from quarterback to receiver, nothing that the former OSU star has done so far in the league has been typical. He played his first three seasons as a QB with the Oakland Raiders (2011-2013), went unsigned in 2014, and then came back as a wideout for the Cleveland Browns (2015-2016).

His 2017 season was a bit disappointing, with the Buckeye playing in only nine games (starting two) and claiming just 240 receiving yards and one touchdown on 20 receptions. Pryor finished last season on IR after undergoing surgery on his ankle, but the injury wasn’t the reason for his surprisingly low stats. The preseason bro-sessions with then-Washington QB Kurt Cousins didn’t translate to the regular season, and eventually he saw just a couple of targets per game.

While he hasn’t had the most success at his position, Pryor has seven years of NFL experience, and an athletic upside that was highlighted during his 2016 campaign with the Browns. The wideout finally learned how to use his incredible size to beat DBs on various routes, but with particular success with contested catches on the outside. Pryor’s size and athleticism were on particular display during his efforts to move the chains, claiming a 13.1 and 12.0 yards per catch average in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

He’s still an interesting signing, and will need to really establish himself as someone who can consistently produce if he’d like to keep a roster spot beyond 2018.
