A shutout by the Buckeye defense certainly didn't hurt, either.

There are certain hallmarks of being a younger sibling that never really fade. Like stealing clothes while claiming you had permission and using everything they did as an excuse for everything you do, losing to your older siblings at their games of choice pretty much comes with the territory.

For me, this Sisyphean battle always took place on two fronts: chess, and Midway's NFL Blitz 2000 for the N64. I have spent countless hours of my life squaring off with my older brother in those arenas, and in all my years on earth I can probably count my victories on my hands. No matter what I figure out, what moves I learn, what strategies I adopt, he's always a step ahead—never will I make up the two-plus years of practice he has on me. We don't even play chess anymore; I'm basically a moron and he's about to become a finance professor. (It's also harder than Blitz when you have a head full of Great Lakes Christmas Ale.)

I imagine this is how it's going to feel to be Chris Ash for quite some time. He's a head coach now, and deservedly so, but he will never change the fact that he learned some things from Urban Meyer, and Urban Meyer has an insurmountable lead in head coaching years. For the second time in Ash's tenure at the helm of Rutgers, he got sonned by Meyer on Saturday. Let's take a look at how it went down.

Blue chip stocks

Johnnie Dixon, WR: What you should know about Dixon's performance on Saturday, if you somehow missed it, is that his first two targets against the Scarlet Knights were both catches. He took them both to the end zone for a total of 105 yards. He had just one grab the rest of the game, but he didn't really need more than that: his first catch of the day would've been enough to beat Rutgers by itself.

Mike Weber, RB: Boy, is it good to have Mike Weber back. Though last year's workhorse carried the ball just 10 times in this game, he made the most of it, finding the end zone three times in his return from injury.

It wasn't otherwise a world-beating performance from Weber, who recorded 44 yards on the ground, but it didn't need to be. Having J.K. Dobbins, Demario McCall, and J.T. Barrett to share carries with tends to take the pressure off. With Weber close to full strength, this is one of the most fully-weaponized backfields in college football.

J.T. Barrett, QB: It was a third-straight quality performance for Barrett, who threw for 275 yards and three TDs en route to breaking the record for career passing yards by an Ohio State QB. Barrett added 89 yards on the ground, and his legs allowed for one of the Buckeyes' best plays of the day when the Rutgers secondary bit hard thinking he was taking off running. Instead he lofted the ball over two defenders and into the waiting arms of Johnnie Dixon, who took it the rest of the way for a 70-yard score.

Solid investments

Dante Booker, LB: One-third of a linebacking trio that's a candlestick maker short of an all-time unit nickname, Booker had himself a day against Chris Ash's hapless offense. He record four tackles (all solo), including a sack and another tackle for loss, and stopped one of Rutgers' only promising drives of the day short by recording a tip-drill INT. There are so many defensive contributors on a weekly basis that it's becoming difficult for one guy to stand out, but Booker is a pretty safe bet for a few stellar plays a game regardless of the opponent.

Demario McCall, RB: After a productive season in 2016 as Mike Weber's backup, McCall was in side-of-a-milk-carton territory after the Buckeyes' first four games. While he didn't see the field before Ohio State got up by 35, McCall still made the most of his opportunities on Saturday, finding the end zone twice and racking up 138 all-purpose yards.

It's going to be tough sledding for McCall going forward, as the road for the Buckeyes gets thornier from here on out, and Antonio Williams will probably still be ahead of him on the depth chart when he gets healthy. Still—McCall is a tremendous talent, and it would be a shame for him to ride the pine all season. Hopefully this performance allows him to carve out a little more space for himself in the game plan going forward.

Junk bonds

Penalties, forever and ever amen. It's starting to feel like a real problem that this team can't get out of its own way. The Buckeyes got flagged an even 10 times against Rutgers for a total of 106 yards, 30 of which came on a single series of bad decisions by Terry McLaurin after a huge OSU gain. It doesn't matter against Rutgers, just as it didn't matter against UNLV, but losing a field's worth of yards on dumb plays might make the difference between winning the B1G East and watching Penn State celebrate in our faces again.

Buy/Sell

BUY: The o-line's steady development. It's taken some time, but the big guys up front seem to be figuring things out. Chris Ash is an excellent defensive coach and Rutgers' aggressive D is far better than its lackluster offense; despite all that, they mustered just two sacks and four total tackles for loss. J.T. Barrett had time to throw and room to move inside and outside the pocket (see the aforementioned Dixon TD). This is a different team when Barrett gets the space to throw or run like his old self. Look out, Big Ten.

BUY: Tressel Ball??? Watching the Ohio State defense operate on the first few drives made it feel like the mid-2000's again, with a lousy opponent making headway down the field until the "bend, don't break" doctrine came into effect. It was vintage stuff, really; despite a few frustrating marches, the Scarlet Knights barely even sniffed scoring distance against this suffocating defense.

The defensive line is amazing, and the offense is hitting their stride. However, you hope there isn’t a penalty on the play.

The last time I made the trek to Piscataway, N.J., it was a cold, windy evening when the Ohio State Buckeyes took on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. This was on Oct. 24, 2015, and I covered the Scarlet and Gray’s 49-7 win against a then-coached Kyle Flood Rutgers program.

Flood isn’t there anymore, and the Buckeye defense is basically a new team. However, as the saying goes, “the more things change, the more things stay the same.”

Last night, Urban Meyer led OSU into High Point Solutions Stadium, and pulled out a win in blowout fashion, again. Unlike 2015, this edition of Buckeyes-Scarlet Knights ended in a shutout. Yes, Chris Ash’s program has been the punching bag in the Big Ten since he took over last season, but his team put up a fight in the first quarter.

However, after the first quarter, things got out of hand in a hurry, as the Buckeyes paced their way to a 4-1 start to the season. Even in this blowout in Jersey, we learned some things about this Ohio State team; we also have some questions to ask, too.

Let’s break them down.

The OSU defensive line is scary good

It was a long night for Rutgers quarterback Kyle Bolin. The passing game was non-existent for the Scarlet Knights, mostly due to the fact that the OSU defensive line was manhandling the Rutgers offensive line.

Take a look at this snapshot in time:

This defensive line pic.twitter.com/sE0QNf9mAu

— Land-Grant Holy Land (@Landgrant33) October 1, 2017

Bolin is literally 10 yards away from the line of scrimmage, and there are three Buckeyes who are right in his grill. This was a constant theme on the night which led to the starting QB racking up only 56 passing yards.

Rutgers went with multiple QBs against the Buckeyes, but it didn’t matter. The D-line of Ohio State forced bad throws from Bolin, and two interceptions from freshman Johnathan Lewis.

While screens and short passes picked up a few yards, the threat of the deep ball didn’t exist. That could be expected, though. However, this stat is a little surprising: zero Scarlet Knight receivers registered a reception. Tight ends and running backs made up most of the completions, but none of the receivers could catch a ball against the OSU defense. Between a combination of the Buckeye defensive line getting through so easily, and the secondary locking in on their respective man, there’s nothing that could’ve been done for Rutgers to get an aerial attack going.

Sam Hubbard led the line with four tackles, and Nick Bosa was right behind him with three. Both members of the vaunted D-line also tallied one QB hit apiece—and Hubbard forced a fumble, too.

On most rushing plays, there was a Buckeye waiting to make a tackle. Gus Edwards led the Scarlet Knights with 43 yards on the ground, but 22 of them came off a third quarter rush—in what could’ve been considered garbage time, as the Buckeyes had the game sealed up with a 35-0 lead.

One thing that hasn’t been slacking this season has been Ohio State’s defensive front. Go back to the first half of the Oklahoma Sooners game, and you’ll find that Baker Mayfield had a tough time navigating against the front line of the Buckeye defense. Like last week against UNLV, Rutgers was toast from the start. While you don’t need a Heisman caliber QB to contend with Ohio State, you need one to at least be able to buy some time in the pocket. Rutgers did not have that, and that played a big role in the goose egg on their side of the scoreboard.

As evident by the scoreboard, Rutgers couldn’t stop OSU’s offense

The numbers weren’t quite 50/50, but the Buckeye offense was finding positive yardage on the ground and through the air. In total, OSU racked up 628 total yards of offense. (In comparison, Rutgers struggled with their first string to get 209 yards.)

J.T. Barrett connected with his receivers for 275 yards and three TDs, and picked up 89 yards on his own using his feet. Granted, the Scarlet Knight secondary got beat bad on multiple plays, but Barrett made the throws and his receivers hauled in the catches. Since the season opener with the Indiana Hoosiers, the Barrett-Zone 6 connection has been improving. It seems like there is greater confidence amongst both parties, which helps to minimize the mistakes. Is the passing game 100 percent mistake free? No—but they are getting there.

usa_today_10318815.jpg
Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports
Through Air and Ground: OSU had 342 passing yards and 286 rushing yards on Saturday night.

Ten different players caught passes in this night game in Piscataway, with Terry McLaurin leading the bunch with five receptions. Johnnie Dixon led the team in receiving yards with 115, and took two of his three catches to the house. Parris Campbell, who’s been Barrett’s go-to man on the passing game, hauled in just one catch for 20 yards. This distribution of wealth is exactly what you want to see, as this is how you find out who the No. 2, No.3, etc. receivers are. We knew Campbell was the No. 1 guy, but it’s starting to appear that Dixon is the No. 2, if he’s got space to work with. If there’s a goal line pass getting dialed up, it may be a jump-ball to Binjimen Victor.

As the passing game keeps on developing, the rushing portion of the OSU offense got another contender for reps: Demario McCall. McCall, who didn’t see much playing time in the previous games due to injury, bursted onto the scene after making his appearance in the third quarter. He ended up leading the running attack with 103 yards and a score. J.K. Dobbins, who basically was shelved after the first quarter, ended the contest with 53 yards.

Barrett is a legend. No way around it

With a 13-yard completion to McLaurin in the waning minutes of the first half, Barrett passed Art Schlichter in the OSU record books and became the program’s all-time passing leader. That’s a huge accomplishment for Barrett, as the last QB to get close to the record was Bobby Hoying, some 20 years ago.

That wasn’t the only career milestone the Wichita Falls, Texas native reached on Saturday night. Barrett eclipsed the mark of 10,000 total offensive yards, and with the help of three passing TDs, reached an exclusive club with three other QBs to have this statline for a college career: 80 passing TDs and 30 rushing TDs.

Since taking over as the starting quarterback after the injury to Braxton Miller in the Summer of 2014, it feels as though Barrett has been at OSU forever. While he’s had his share—or more than—his share of criticism, one thing you can’t say is that Barrett isn’t one of the best QBs to walk through the tunnel for the Buckeyes. Within the record books at Ohio State and the Big Ten Conference, he sits atop 29 of them.

That’s pretty good.

While that’s a few of the answers we saw from the Bucks win, let’s take a look at some of the burning questions we have.

What is the deal with the penalties?

Once again, the penalty fairy paid a visit to Ohio State during game time. The litany of calls the Buckeyes collected this week include: offsides, false start, illegal formation (which was declined), block in the back, running into the kicker (which was also declined) and an unsportsmanlike conduct call.

When the clock hit all zeros, the Buckeyes were responsible for 10 penalties, costing a whopping 106 yards. Last week, I said to expect 6+ penalties if the team continued to play undisciplined football. Andddd, here we are.

Most of these penalties are the kind that can be worked out in practice and through drills—but they keep getting called each week. At this point, is the penalty problem even solvable?

How will the running back situation work?

Earlier, we talked about McCall entering the fray as another running option for the Buckeyes. This is good.

However, the backfield is starting to get awfully crowded. J.K. Dobbins has busted onto the gridiron as the man with the hot hand. Mike Weber is back from the hamstring injury and seems to be stronger than ever. He saw 10 carries against Rutgers, and found the endzone on three of them. Also, Weber plowed through the defense and was basically a human wrecking ball, as it took multiple Scarlet Knights to bring him down.

Antonio Williams, another running back, didn’t play on Saturday night due to injury.

This brings up an interesting dilemma for Kevin Wilson and Urban Meyer: how are you gonna decide who gets the ball? A rotation was used for the receiving corps, but that was devised to figure out who the starters were going to be. In the backfield, it’s evident that Dobbins and Weber are two guys that will get carries, but when you throw in McCall and Williams, things get a little bit tricker.

A team with the similar situation is the Oklahoma Sooners. They have four running backs on staff who can make plays and get yards. Their coach, Lincoln Riley, has taken a running back by committee approach, and it seems to be working.

Should Urban and company do this? That’s one solution. But whatever the strategy is, Weber and Dobbins have to play a big role in it. Especially in the bigger, closer games. The read-option has always been the bread and butter of Meyer’s offense since he came to Columbus. However, he has four real running backs on his roster this time around—and utilizing them will help immensely if the Buckeyes were to take down either Penn State, Iowa or Michigan.

MotS&G Rapid Reactions: Five Quick Observations

Rapid Reactions: Five Quick Observations
Richard Tongohan
via our good friends at Men of the Scarlet and Gray
Visit their fantastic blog and read the full article (and so much more) here

  • The Buckeyes were completely dominant in this game. The Defensive Line has an army, and they showed why they are considered to be a Top 5 unit. They lived in the Rutgers backfield for the entirety of the game.
  • Offensive Onslaught, 628-209! The Buckeye offense looked poised and confident, two things that lacked early on in the season. Now, with the offense seemingly clicking, the Buckeyes will continue to build on their success so far this season.
  • QB and RB Depth. Barrett, Burrow, Haskins and Martell, and Dobbins, McCall, Weber and Williams. The depth at Ohio State is crazy, but it is a good problem to have. Barrett had another good game, Haskins and Burrow showed that they can lead, and Martell waits for his name to be called with Emory Jones coming in after Barrett says goodbye. The QB battle will be fierce. Weber scored his first three touchdowns of the year, Dobbins was his usual self, running hard, and McCall lit it up and scored twice, his first two of the year and racked up 138 all-purpose yards. Williams was unable to make the trip to New Jersey and Master Teague and Jaelin Gill will be coming in next year and the depth will once again be a trendy topic.
  • Penalty Monster. The penalty monster appeared again and it has hurt the Buckeyes a ton this season. Prior to the game, they were second in the nation in penalty yardage. This game was no different as they were penalized 10 times for 106 yards with the targeting play on Jahsen Wint being the most notable one. There was some improvement in this category though because there were no defensive pass interference and holding penalties on the corners.
  • Dixon, Zone 6 Revival. After multiple seasons of being injured and almost walking away from the game he loves, Dixon showed the nation how talented he is and can be. He is improving on his craft is starting to impose his will and gain separation. The rest of Zone 6 has also improved. Their confidence is rising and they are beginning to help Barrett’s as well. They need to continue to improve cause their schedule will get harder as time goes by.

First Half:

The Buckeyes began the game with the ball first, but their playcalling was sporadic, and it resulted in a game-opening punt on their first possession. Their defense stepped up to stop the Scarlet Knights on their own first drive.

On Ohio State’s next possession, J.T. Barrett rattled off a huge run for 37 yards to put him over the 10,000-yard mark to be the first Buckeye to meet that mark. As they inched closer toward the end zone, Mike Weber punched it in for his first touchdown of the season for the first score of the game. On their third possession, they were forced to punt once again.

On the next Rutgers drive, they benefited from a bad punt by Chrisman, but they were backed up further after a block in the back penalty. Rutgers drove the ball inside of the Ohio State 20-yard line, but they were turned away by the defense after Tracy Sprinkle tipped a pass to Dante Booker for the spinning interception.

On the ensuing possession, the offense was clicking as Barrett found his receivers and his Tight End for short pass plays. J.K. Dobbins also flashed his speed and power as he broke off a 34-yard run on a 3rd and 2 to the Rutgers 44 yard line. Mike Weber rotated in and scored on another short run to push the lead to 14-0.

After a combination of punts between both teams, J.T. Barrett caught a Rutgers defensive back looking into the backfield and before you know it, Johnnie Dixon was left by himself and he took the ball 70-yards for another Buckeye touchdown. Dixon stayed hot and tippy-toed the sideline for another long score of 39-yards to extend the lead to 28-0.

Right before halftime, Weber scored for the third time as the Buckeyes take a commanding 35-0 lead after the half. The yardage discrepancy was encouraging for the Buckeyes. They led 336-77 in total offensive yardage.

Second Half:

The Defense picked up where they left off as they forced another Rutgers punt to open the second half. Coincidentally, the Buckeyes were turned down on 4th down on the Rutgers 40, but they were just looking to run some time off the clock.

On the next Rutgers play their backup quarterback threw behind his receiver then Ward picked the ball off for their second turnover of the game. The Buckeyes then had a 60 yarder to Dixon that was taken away because he pushed off, but the drive was eventually capped off after Barrett found Victor for a 23-yard strike.

The Rutgers then found themselves in Ohio State territory after a screen pass was successful. The Buckeye defense then stiffined up in the Red Zone as they turned away Rutgers on 4th down. Barrett finished the game with around 4 minutes remaining in the game, giving Haskins more reps for Ohio State. He finished 14 for 22 for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns and 10 rushes for 89 yards.

Barrett finished the game with around 4 minutes remaining in the game, giving Haskins more reps for Ohio State. He finished 14 for 22 for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns and 10 rushes for 89 yards.

Haskins took some time to get a rhythm, but he eventually lofted a pass to Demario McCall on a wheel route for a 35-yard score to add to the route, 49-0.

On 3rd and 7, Jahsen Wint committed a costly targeting penalty that gave Rutgers first down yards. It only adds to the penalty tally, but younger players will learn. The defense forced another punt that nearly was fumbled away by McCall, but they regained possession at the Ohio State 2 yard line.

Joe Burrow came into salt the game away and with less than 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Ohio State is looking to run time off of the clock. The drive took 3:23 but it featured the forgotten man in Tote Nation Demario McCall. He racked up 80 rushing yards as he ran for 48 yards for his second touchdown of the game and the season. For the game, McCall has 11 carries for 103 yards and a catch for 35 yards for two total touchdowns.

Rutger drove the ball with 13 plays, which is the most plays called against the Buckeyes, but they were turned away after Hart missed a field goal in Buckeye territory. Game Buckeyes. This is the second shutout of Rutgers, last year 58-0 and this year 56-0.

In the game, J.T. Barrett continued to write his name in the record books.

The Ohio State Buckeyes defense took their trip to Piscataway, N.J. as an opportunity to show their former coordinator just how good they could be. With former OSU assistant Chris Ash now the head man at Rutgers, his former unit, now coached by former, longtime Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, flexed their muscle, allowing the offense time to ramp up into dominating performance. After a 58-0 victory in Columbus last year, the Buckeyes followed up with a 56-0 win on Saturday.

The OSU offense started slow, seemingly forgetting the types of plays that had been reliable in the weeks following the loss to Oklahoma. However, once quarterback J.T. Barrett and the offense found their flow, records fell and points were aplenty.

Before the game, Ohio State announced that defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones, running back Antonio Williams and safety Erick Smith would not play in the game. The former two were for medical reasons, but no explanation was given for Smith’s absence.

After the Buckeyes went three-and-out on the opening drive, freshman punter Drue Chrisman pinned the Scarlet Knights inside the 11. After the OSU defensive line dominated, Rutgers returned the favor with a punt, and despite a positive return from K.J. Hill, Denzel Ward was flagged for an unnecessary block in the back to set the Buckeyes up at their own 40. It would be one of many penalties that negated positive plays.

After true-freshman running back J.K. Dobbins picked up 12 yards on the first drive, the Buckeyes’ second time on the field saw the return of Mike Weber, who has been limited for most of the season. He would not be limited against Rutgers. On the first play of the drive, Barrett kept the option-read for a 37-yard gain. On the run, Barrett broke 10,000 career yards, adding to his school and conference records.

After a Rutgers pass interference, Weber ran the ball twice, the second time breaking the goal line, to put OSU up 7-0. The score was the first of the season for the 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Using two quarterbacks on the subsequent drive, Rutgers was able to advance into Ohio State territory, but was eventually forced to punt. Following a Scarlet Knight false start, OSU was flagged for running into the kicker, but since the ball went out of bounds at the two yard line, Rutgers declined the penalty.

Following another three-and-out, Chrisman shanked his punt, but was helped out by a Rutgers penalty, and the Scarlet Knights began their drive on the OSU 43. Aided by an odd penalty against Nick Bosa, the Scarlet Knights were able to move the ball into the red zone, but Tracy Sprinkle deflected a pass from back-up quarterback Jonathan Lewis, and linebacker Dante Booker came down with the interception.

Following a Barrett nine-yard gain, Dobbins raced up the middle for a 34-yard pickup. Barrett completed passes to Parris Campbell, Marcus Baugh, Hill, and McLaurin (although that one was for a loss), and Weber powered up the middle for an eight-yard gain before the first quarter came to an end.

On the first play of the second quarter, Weber ran through a mountain-sized hole into the endzone, for his second score of the game. Five seconds into the quarter, the Buckeyes went up 14-0.

As the Buckeye defensive line began to exert their will, the Rutgers quarterbacks found themselves under pressure more often than not.

Halfway through the second quarter, the same could be said for Barrett. On first down, defensive back K.J. Gray got the sack after being unblocked. On second down, Barrett was hurried, and wide receiver Binjimen Victor dropped the pass that would have gotten the Buckeyes to third-and-manageable. Then on third down, Barrett was forced to step up into the pocket, and as he scrambled to the right, he found Johnnie Dixon behind the Rutgers secondary, and completed the 70-yard pass to pick up his 80th career passing touchdown to put OSU up 21-0.

With the score, Barrett became the fourth player in college football history to accumulate 80 passing and 30 rushing TDs, joining Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick, Central Michigan’s Dan LeFevour, and Florida’s Tim Tebow.

On the next drive, Barrett hit Dixon on a comeback route, and the WR then turned to the outside and tight-roped down the sideline to pick up his second touchdown in as many possessions. The score ended up going for 39 yards, and put the Buckeyes up 28-0 with 4:08 remaining in the first half.

After a three-and-out for Rutgers, the OSU offense found itself in a 3rd and 13 position following a sack. On the play, Barrett found Victor for a 46-yard pickup. After a handful of passes, Weber got into the endzone for his third touchdown of the night, putting the Buckeyes up 35-0 with less than a minute to go before halftime.

On the drive, Barrett went 4-for-7, including a 13-yarder to Terry McLaurin that put the Buckeye QB at the top of the school’s all-time passing list, moving ahead of Art Schlichter.

At the half, Barrett was 11-17 for 216 and a pair of TDs. On the ground, the QB and Dobbins both had 48 yards, while Weber, in addition to his three scores, had 24 yards. Six Buckeyes had receptions in the first half. Barrett found success throughout the first half stepping up into the pocket in order to buy time to find an open receiver.

On the other side of the ball, the Silver Bullets held Rutgers to just 77 total yards (52 rushing, 25 passing), and picked up a pair of sacks in the first half as well.

On the first drive of the second half, Damon Webb picked off a third-down pass from Lewis to give the Buckeyes possession at the Rutgers 41. OSU couldn’t convert on a fourth down, turning the ball back over to the Scarlet Knights on their own 36.

After a third touchdown pass to Dixon was called back due to a penalty on the receiver, Barrett completed a 27-yard pass to McLaurin, then the QB kept the ball and picked up 30-yards, but McLaurin was flagged for two penalties on the play, an unnecessary roughness and an unsportsmanlike conduct.

However, the drive ended on a 23-yard touchdown pass to Victor, in which the 6’4 receiver skied over the Rutgers defender to increase the Buckeye lead to 42-0.

On the following drive, Rutgers starting QB Kyle Bolin completed a jailbreak screen against a blitzing Buckeye front. On the play, running back Robert Martin took the ball for 36-yards before before being forced out of bounds. The play was the biggest gainer for the Scarlet Knights on the day.

With four minutes left in the third quarter, back-up QB Dwayne Haskins entered the game, as did running back Demario McCall. With Williams not making the trip, the explosive second year RB got the playing time that has alluded him in the first four games of the season.

A minute into the fourth quarter Haskins hooked up with McCall on a wheel route for a 35-yard touchdown. While Haskins has been making a name for himself with his rifle arm, on the TD pass, he showed an impressive touch, dropping the ball into McCall’s waiting hands, allowing him to never break stride until he’d crossed the goal line putting the Buckeyes up 49-0.

The score continued a streak for the Buckeyes against the Scarlet Knights. In the schools’ four lifetime match-ups, the Buckeyes have scored at least 49 points in each.

On the next drive, with the Buckeyes pinned back at their own 2 following a muffed punt by McCall, the recently cleared Joe Burrow came in to run the offense, which consisted mostly of handing the ball off to McCall as he got used to game speed.

Following a pair of completions, McCall made a nifty cut just passed the line of scrimmage and out ran the Rutgers defense to pick up his first TD of the year. The 48-yard rush put McCall over the 100-yard mark, making him the leading rusher for the Buckeyes on the game. With 8:06 left in the game, Ohio State led 56-0.

With Rutgers on an impressive 13-play drive late in the fourth quarter, on 4th-and-4, Ash decided to call on his kicker Andrew Harte, but the kick went off of the right upright, preserving Ohio State’s shutout.

Next week, the Buckeyes will host the Maryland Terrapins at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

Barrett has eclipsed Art Schlichter’s mark of 7,457 yards

It took him 40 games to get there, but J.T. Barrett is now the all-time passing leader in Ohio State history, passing Art Schlichter and his 7,457 yards—which had stood as the record since 1981.

He broke the record on a 13-yard completion to Terry McLaurin in the closing minutes of the first half against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The first quarter against the Scarlet Knights did not get off to a great start, as Barrett only had 34 yards of passing after the first quarter. However, a 70-yard touchdown to Johnnie Dixon, as well as a 39-yard completion to Dixon in the second quarter propelled Barrett to breaking the record on the road in Piscataway, N.J.

Entering the game, Barrett needed 201 yards to be the outright leader for the record. At the end of the first two quarters, he had 216 yards.

This isn’t the only record Barrett has. He sits atop the Big Ten for most TDs responsible for, as well as numerous other OSU records, including most passing touchdowns for a career and most passing TDs in a season.
