Ohio State was throwing out offers left and right on Thursday

The Buckeyes dished out new offers to multiple prospects yesterday.
It’s the middle of May, which in the college football world means recruiting, recruiting, and recruiting. The Buckeye staff has been on the trails working tirelessly to bring the next batch of studs to Ohio State for the 2019 class. To the surprise of no one, the staff has already built a top-10 2019 class—and it’ll easily be near the top when all is said and done thanks to their efforts. With many more of their top targets set to give their pledge in the coming weeks and months, Ohio State is sure to see some continued good news to bolster their current cycle. As time for 2019 is certainly the first priority, the Buckeyes have already started on the future classes such as 2020 and 2021, hoping a head start will lead to solid relationships and of course, more top prospects headed to Columbus.
Headed to Illinois with the future in mind
One of the great aspects about being Ohio State in recruiting is not only dominating in your state for top prospects, but having the ability to recruit any and everywhere the football staff wants to. There’s seemingly nowhere the Buckeyes haven’t been able to go and secure the pledge of a top target. Another great aspect for the Buckeyes is being able to recruit in rival territories. While Illinois may not be a true rival, the state still plays home to Big Ten foes Illinois and Northwestern. While Ohio State usually wins both on and off the field for highly touted prospects against these two schools, it’s still common to have to fight against other conference rivals for any top recruit to come from Illinois.
Yesterday, Ohio State invaded Illinois—and meant business—as they sent out multiple offers. One prospect that was on the receiving end of the prolific Buckeye offer was 2021 defensive tackle
Dominic Bass. Bass is a product of Chicago and attends Phillips Academy where the 6-foot-4, 250-pound stud has proven his worth on the gridiron. Only a high school sophomore, Bass probably can’t even attend the prom due to his age, but that really is the least of worries considering this prep star already holds double-digit offers from some of the more namely programs in the country. Schools such as Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and now Ohio State have come calling for Bass, but more will surely follow suit.
Due to Dominic’s age, he does not have a current ranking on 247sports, but the time will come soon enough and it’s without a doubt Bass will be right at the top of the board. With so much time left in his recruitment, any school can work their way in to the sweepstakes, but Michigan is thought to be the very early front-runner in his recruitment. However, fortunately for Ohio State, when Urban Meyer goes against Michigan, he tends to win. After all, he’s undefeated head to head on the field, but hey, who’s counting right? Time will tell where they stand with Bass, but a relationship between the two will certainly start now with offer in hand.
Top prospect, sure, let’s bring him to Ohio State
Sticking in the Land of Lincoln, we said Ohio State was busy in Illinois yesterday and that’s nothing but the truth. Offering multiple top guys in the upcoming classes, the Buckeye staff , who’ve been incredible lately at landing receivers, decided it was time to try their luck again and do so in the 2020 class.
Enter,
A.J. Henning, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound speedster from Frankfort, Ill., and you have the latest wideout to earn a Buckeye offer. Henning, a player that can line up out wide and also in the slot can do it all. He has the hands, speed, and the skills to be a major playmaker at the next level. With two full seasons still to be played in his prep career, it’s possible that more size and height could come, but even at his current stature, the infamous H-back role at Ohio State has his name all over it if he so chooses.
Henning is no new name to many though as he currently grades out as not only the top overall prospect in Illinois for his class, but is also considered to be the fourth best receiver in the entire country, making him the 23rd best player at any spot in the nation, according to 247sports. An impressive kid to say the very least, A.J. holds over 20 scholarship offers and is currently thought to be a Notre Dame lean. While the Irish and anyone else would love to have this talent, the Buckeyes will make their best pitch and when that happens, anything is possible. As always, the Buckeyes and Urban Meyer always have a shot even if it’s not a great one. If Henning gets to campus in the future you can bet Ohio State will be in this one until the pen hits the paper.
To the the Lone Star State we go
If there’s a top five ranking in the country for high school football states and recruiting it probably consists of Florida, Texas, Ohio, Georgia and California—with more states in arguments for one of those five spots. Point being though, Texas is a state that will always find itself at or near the top of the boards when you’re talking about prep football and talent within the borders. The Lone Star State has been nothing but good to the Buckeyes and that’s exactly why Meyer and his gang have made it a priority to continue recruiting Texas as if it’s in their own back yard. With so many elite dudes each and every year, the Buckeyes know if they can set up camp in Texas, they’ll be well taken care of.
Yesterday, Ohio State was back camping down south again as they sent out another offer to a Texas running back. Something to take note of considering the last running back from Texas to come north and suit up for the Buckeyes has done pretty well in just one year of play.
Seth McGowan, a 6-foot, 210 bruiser of a back announced via his Twitter account last night that Ohio State was his latest offer.
The 2020 back is ranked currently as the 30th best player in Texas for his class and is also a top-25 running back for 2020. With offers from the likes of Alabama, Oklahoma, and many more, it’s not out of the picture to think Seth will see his ranking increase, but that may not matter because Ohio State’s offer alone proves this kid can flat out play. An early leader may or may not be in effect, but the Buckeyes being in the picture now and having a proven track record in Texas is worth noting that McGowan may be a name to pay close attention to.

- Ohio State coaches Zach Smith and Ryan Day were in attendance at Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) practice yesterday not only to see current commit Garrett Wilson, but to also see offered QB Hudson Card. It’s looking possible to have Lake Travis as the next pipeline to Ohio State.
- A crystal ball prediction in favor of the Buckeyes was put in yesterday for Jameson Williams, a four-star receiver prospect out of St. Louis, Missouri. STL has been a major hotbed for the Buckeyes.
