C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Skull Session: Evan Turner Buried Michigan 15 Years Ago, Greg Oden and Mike Conley Almost Went to Wake Forest and Bryce Underwood Tells LeBron James “It’s Over for Ohio State”

154232_h.jpg

On choosing Ohio State over Wake Forest

“If Chris Paul was gonna say at Wake Forest, I probably would have went with Mike to Wake Forest. I would say that. But Chris Paul left for the league. Mike wanted to go there and play with Chris Paul, but Chris Paul leaves. … It wasn’t etched in stone (that I would go where Mike went), but we had a good visit down there at Wake Forest. I’ll put it like that. It was a good time. Nah, I will say this, though. When we went to the Texas-Ohio State football game, just seeing that atmosphere on that visit and seeing what that city was, I think we all kind of were like, ‘Alright, this is it. This is where we want to be at.’ But I think Wake Forest was definitely a very, very close second.”

On Ohio State’s loss to Florida in the national title game

“Going up against Florida, as you all know, Taurean Green, Corey Brewer, (Lee) Humphrey, Al (Horford), Joakim (Noah), Chris Richard coming off the bench, Marreese Speights a freshman. … They’re arguably one of the best college basketball teams in history. Actually, they have to be top five because there are only three or four of them that actually went back-to-back. If we hit a couple more threes, I would like to say I hope we had a better chance. But f— everybody that does the Gator Chomp. That s— hurts my soul to this day. I’m a grown a— man, but when I see the Gator Chomp, I see a tear. I’m like, ‘You know what? This some bull—.”

On leaving Ohio State for the NBA

“The week before I went to school, it was nothing. After the championship on Monday, going to class on Wednesday, I couldn’t make it a block without people getting out of their cars, asking for autographs, stopping to take pictures. Literally, I couldn’t make it to class. I went back to my dorm, called Coach (Matta) and I’m like, ‘I literally can’t make it to class. I’m overwhelmed.’ That’s when I knew it was about to happen.
“(But) I wanted to stay. We were that close. You think about all the times (Conley and I) won in high school, in AAU, in eighth grade. You think about our high school years, we barely lost 10 games. We probably lost three in AAU. It’s less than 15 games from sixth grade, seventh grade, up to college. I wanted to win. But I went and talked about that to Coach, and he was like, ‘Ha. Get the f— out of here.’ It was like a soft laugh. ‘He was like, ‘You can’t do that, brother. I can’t do that to your family. I can’t do that to you.’ When you’re put in this position, you have to take advantage of that. I am thankful for the people around me. My life changed after that.”

B1G MBT, #10 Ohio State vs #15 Iowa, Wednesday, 12 March @ ≈ 6 PM ET, Peacock

Exactly, I mean, I don't expect next season to be any better under Jake Diebler.

I expect next season to be worse if anything. People will still make excuses for Diebler though and want to give him a 3rd season. The Athletic Department is gonna be in no hurry to make a move, Diebler is a lame duck but he's cheap and they can just keep proclaiming success because of the football program alone.

Buffalo Bills (official thread)

Bills sign recently released Steelers defensive tackle after Joey Bosa deal

The Bills have agreed to a deal with Larry Ogunjobi after signing Joey Bosa on Tuesday.

The Buffalo Bills made a splash signing on Tuesday night when they added star pass rusher Joey Bosa on a one-year, $12.6 million contract. The Bills aren't done adding to their defensive line, though, as they hammered out a deal with recently released Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi on Wednesday morning.

Ogunjobi turned in another solid campaign in 2024, racking up 41 tackles and 1.5 sacks over 15 games for the Steelers. The team opted to move in a different direction once free agency started, though, releasing him on Monday. It didn't take long for him to find a new home, though, as he landed with Buffalo on a one-year, $8.3 million deal.

2026 OH S Kaden Gebhardt (Clemson Verbal)

Quoting the 2-10-1 Coop, he said, "when you miss on a guy, you only have to see him once a year, but when you get the guy and he doesn't meet expectations, you gotta see him once a day". Not entirely certain this kid fits into the latter grouping, but sounds like there's other fish (safeties) in the ocean. We thought some of the Ohio guys might flip to the good guys last year, but that didn't pan out so well. Not entirely certain of the last's relevance, but thought I'd throw it out anyway.....Go Bucks!

Premier League (Official Thread)

Man United to leave Old Trafford for 100,000-seat stadium

Manchester United officially announced plans to leave Old Trafford, their home for more than 100 years, and move into a new stadium.

The proposal was unveiled on Tuesday and has been backed by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The proposed 100,000-seat arena would surpass Wembley as the biggest in the United Kingdom.

It follows recommendations made by the Old Trafford Regeneration Task force -- set up more than a year ago -- and a series of fan consultations.

The other option on the table was to redevelop the existing stadium, but the 20-time English champions have opted to move to a new home. A source has told ESPN that the club will not need to play a game away from Old Trafford while the work is completed.

"Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world's greatest football stadium, at the centre of a regenerated Old Trafford," co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said on Tuesday.

"Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport.

i

"By building next to the existing site, we will be able to preserve the essence of Old Trafford, while creating a truly state-of-the-art stadium that transforms the fan experience only footsteps from our historic home."

Old Trafford, which has a capacity of 76,000 after the last expansion in 2006, was opened in 1910. United's plan would see a new stadium built on the same site in Manchester with a potential capacity of 100,000, making it the biggest stadium in the UK.

Kim Mulkey Puts Tomatoes In Her Gumbo (LSU Women’s Basketball Official Thread)

LSU’s Kim Mulkey allows assistant to coach SEC tourney game while she grieves death in family

LSU coach Kim Mulkey allowed assistant Bob Starkey to coach Friday night’s Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinal game against Florida while she continued to grieve an unexpected death in her family earlier this week.

Starkey had prepared the team all week in practice and Mulkey thought it was best for him to coach the game. The ninth-ranked Tigers won 101-87.

Mulkey was away from the team this week before arriving in Greenville on Friday. She sat in the middle of the bench and communicated with Starkey during the game.

“I was where I was supposed to be,” Mulkey said of her time away, adding that her week was “awful.”

“My mind still isn’t good,” Mulkey said. “I don’t feel good first of all, but we all deal with death. I dealt with a stillborn grandchild, but I was prepared for that. We are prepared for our parents and prepared for our grandparents. It’s the unexpected deaths that throw you for a loop.”

Mulkey praised Starkey, saying he belongs in the Basketball Hall of Fame for his accomplishments.

When asked if being around her players helped with her healing process, Mulkey said, “No.”

“I love this game great of basketball but it’s not more important than the time it takes to heal from an unexpected death,” Mulkey said. “What I didn’t want is to be a distraction and I don’t think I was. I was the biggest cheerleader and I was able to sit in the middle of the bench and was able to communicate with players. I wasn’t coming in and taking over. I told Bob before the game, ‘You are coaching tonight.’ He had all week to prepare our team. ... Only time heals your heart.”

PG/SG Amedeo Della Valle (AX Armani Exchange Milano - Italy)

Former Ohio State basketball player scores his 4000th professional point

A former Ohio State basketball player has scored his 4000th professional point overseas.

The Ohio State basketball program had a lot of success during the Thad Matta era. He took the team to a national championship and multiple Final Fours. He had multiple NBA players on his teams. The Buckeyes had some of the best teams in history under Matta.

Back in Matta's era, the Buckeyes had a lot of guys play professionally. Other than the NBA guys that they had, they had plenty of other guys play overseas. Even some guys who you wouldn't think were going to be good enough to play professionally ended up playing for a salary.

One of those players is Amedo Della Valle. He played for the Ohio State Buckeyes for three years before deciding to go back home to Italy to play. He has been playing in Serie A, which is the highest level of basketball in the country. Della Valle has been playing great while over there.

Ex-Ohio State basketball player Amedo Della Valle scores his 4000th point

Della Valle recently scored his 4000th point in Serie A. He continues to play well at a high level. His high level of play is surprising, especially considering the fact that he wasn't even a normal part of the rotation for Ohio State. He has turned himself into quite the player.

Della Valle has had a lot of team success over the years. He has won a EuroCup Challenge and an LBA MVP. He has played on a lot of good teams. Della Valle clearly made the right choice to leave Ohio State early to go play professionally. He has made a lot of money.

Della Valle will keep playing as long as he can. He clearly is still good enough to play some good basketball for a few more years. He might end up being one of Matta's most successful players.

Just sayin': Possibly, however, he'll never be #1;, that distinction goes to Mike Conley, Jr.

LB Baron Browning (Arizona Cardinals)

Former Ohio State enigma lands $19 million free-agent deal after NFL role change

baron-browning.webp

One former Ohio State Buckeye might not have known where he'd end up during the 2025 NFL free agency period after bouncing around, but the Arizona Cardinals had no interest in losing Baron Browning. Once an off-ball linebacker with the Buckeyes, Browning has become a pass-rushing specialist since entering the NFL.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals rewarded Browning with a two-year deal worth up to $19 million. Browning produced 14 tackles and two sacks in eight games after he was acquired at the trade deadline.

Arizona originally gave up a 2025 sixth-round pick for Browning. The former Bronco was selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and racked up 9.5 sacks before the trade. A foot injury in Week 2 limited his ability to break back into the rotation.

Now a rotational pass-rusher, Arizona is banking on his athleticism to be a difference-maker.
