I am not basing it off him being a southern kid. I think for one this kid came to us as a middle school kid from Alabama. The reasons he left our school to head to Gainesville I will keep quiet but rest assured whoever lands this kid will need to have a solid NIL package together.

It used to be verboten to ask a colleague what they made. Group of us once did that, and it raised all sorts of heck when the females (equally bright and educated) made less than the males (who - me- made less with an MBA from tOSU versus Harvard/Stanford). Problem is, like @buckeyemania11 said, a 5star is a 5star regardless of location. And he's a 5star because he's proven himself, not just at his HS, but also in national camps against similar talent. Jackson Cantwell is going to be a 5star OT, in BFE, MO, just like he would if he lived in Chicago or Atlanta.
And also, yeah these kids all talk to one another.

The four-star guard will spend one season at the junior college or prep academy level before joining the Buckeyes in 2026.

Four-star 2025 Ohio State commit Dorian Jones is not expected to enroll at the university or join the men’s basketball program this summer, Jones confirmed on his social media.

Jones, who committed to Ohio State last July, is a 6-foot-4, 160-pound guard out of Richmond Heights High School. He was the second prep commitment to Ohio State during the Jake Diebler era of men’s basketball, after 2026 Marcus Johnson did so in April of 2025.

A high-level shooter with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Jones is currently the top-rated Ohio player in the 2025 class, the 19th-rated shooting guard in the class, and the No. 114 recruit in the nation. His recruiting has slipped some during a senior season that’s seen him miss considerable time due to illness — he was the No. 72 recruit in the nation when he committed last summer.

Jones is still firmly committed to Ohio State, but he is expected to either play one season at a junior college or a preparatory academy this academic year to continue his development. With Bruce Thornton and John Mobley locked into starting roles and Taison Chatman and Gabe Cupps competing for backup minutes, Jones would have had a challenging — but not impossible — path to earn consistent minutes this upcoming season.

Ohio State’s other incoming freshman — 6-foot-8 power forward A’mare Bynum — is still expected to enroll this summer and could have a substantial role this season.

Jones’ year playing prep basketball should not affect his collegiate eligibility, giving him four seasons starting in 2026. This precedent was set in December 2024, when Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia sued the NCAA requesting an additional year of eligibility after spending his first season at New Mexico Military Academy — a junior college.

Jones not enrolling at Ohio State this year opens up one additional spot on the men’s basketball roster. Diebler and his staff are expected to bring in an additional player to take that spot at some point this summer.

Just sayin': Apparently he will (basically) be a 2026 recruit now.

I think @Elephant believes a southern kid stays in the south. All those points you made are true, but Columbus, OH is still north of the MD line, and that can trump any of the points that you made

I'll never get this rooting interest in a conference. I root and care about 1 team. I think the B1G and SEC convo is entertaining and at times comical, but I could care less if every team in the B1G loses all of their games. I only care that OSU wins. I'm not going to give any interest to Minny playing Ole Miss, or the results of Illinois against UK. And I'd honestly give a side eye to a Purdue, IU, UCLA, etc fan who wants to give a high 5 when OSU wins a big game. We're not together in this, to me, you wear Scarlet and Gray, anyone wearing that and rooting for the Bucks is part of my tribe. Making this a B1G vs SEC battle is just foolish to me.

The utterly self-inflicted 2024 loss to that clown program is made slightly less intolerable by how badly it hurts the DFBIA that in the end, it didn't prevent THE Ohio State University from once again claiming its rightful place on top of the college football mountain.

Dorian Jones going the JUCO route, who knows if he ever winds up at OSU. Should leave only 11 schollie players on the roster. Really going to need health to be on our side this upcoming year.

It's not a coincidence at all and the ESPN/SEC clowns know it, we are going to get a real annoying even harder push than before for the next few years about how "GRUELING!!!!" the SEC schedule is, regardless to how they perform in the post season, and regardless to how its no more grueling than the B1G when looked at from non biased glasses. They gotta talk more SEC teams into the playoff based on past "toughness" perception because clearly they aren't going to actually deserve it based on current year merit
