2026 OH DL Jamir Perez is a Buckeye!!!

Not disagreeing with anyone else, would like to say that DL (especially DT), is a position of need with tOSU. Knowing that, cannot imagine how LJsr wasn't all over this guy, unless of course, 1) 'assumed' that a Glenville guy was his, 2) maybe wasn't 'good enough' for him, or 3) ?. Guessing it's more of an NIL thing, as said above, but cannot put my arms around that 'it wasn't enough'. Does appear though that LJsr is the laggard in this recruiting cycle, but seem to recollect that this is his style. With my scarlet & gray glasses on, want to believe that as the recruiting season progresses, this young man will settle down, now that he's got a spot locked up, and figure out where his future lies. Heck, with NIL $, etc, maybe a better job for his dad is now legal? Seems to be the Wild West out there, with no holds barred. Not a great way to start this week. Go Bucks!
I think the main issue with LJsr(and honestly I'm sure many coaches around the country who are used to the "old" ways) is he wants to get HIS list of guys, and its a limited list, and he doesn't deviate from that list. Its honestly the same issue that Frye had, they pick a handful of names, focus on building relationships with those guys and no one else. The problem with that strategy in this era, is that those relationships only go so far when large sums of money are involved. LJsr does a great job of building relationships with recruits and their families(a number of guys who were OSU targets and signed elsewhere still rave about LJsr), but the kids now are getting contacted so much, that his methods are no longer feasible. You can't expect an hour long conversation once a week to be justifiable to land top talent anymore. Especially when most kids are getting calls almost every day and text every day. And this is where the generational divide comes in, or someone who has seen so much success they don't think they need to change. Kind of like the old grizzled salesman who was the top earner 10-20yrs, not understanding that he now can use email instead of daily cold calls.

the golf thread

Loved Firestone because winners would come in like 4 under for the tourney... Can't stand touneys when winner comes in 25 under...

Great story... my boss at Goodyear was out at Firestone... someone asked "what did you shoot? He said 'we were supposed to play the south but they switched us to the north course (that's the water course)..so I just went over.. opened up my ball bag and poured them into the first pond.. saved myself a lot of grief"; another Goodyear guy was with him.. he was asked "what did you shoot?" he said "dozen balls".. What? "that's all the balls I had in my bag.. I shot till I was empty"

High School Baseball

first year of HS ball ended for him Friday - played pretty well. He finished the year 1st in OBP, walks, and steals, 2nd in avg, 2nd in RBI's - really grew as a player quite a bit this season.

football mini camp in a few weeks, but now just morning lifting, nothing afterschool - going to be weird to have evenings back

congrats to your son!
