55 yarder .... Nugent walking through that door? If they woulda gone after to the kicker from Fredo we mighta had a chance but Fielding doesn't have that leg.. we woulda had to been around the 15 to have any kinda comfortI also just realized, on that final play, we could have attempted a 55 yard FG. Instead we decided to run a play to try to get closer with only 6 seconds on the clock.
That's fucking lunacy.
The more I think about what happened at the end of this game, the more my faith in Day dwindles. That was truly an all-time terrible coaching performance at the end of a game.
No, Howard sliding with no time left and horrible clock mismanagement by the staff cost us.OPI cost us the game. Went from comfortably in field goal range with time to spare and a timeout, to out of time, out of range, and way behind the chains.
Did you even watch the game? He made very limited mistakes and was able to make plays when needed. The last drive needed to be much better but overall this loss wasn’t due to “rookie mistakes”. Everyone’s trying to place blame but he’s on the lower level of those that need to be blamed. For as much as we hear about “what a veteran “ he is the guy sure makes a lot of very rookie mistakes
The OL was doing pretty decent prior to the injuries. Sieravold was overmatched and Zen, well it’s obvious why he hasn’t seen the field much.My concern was the porous Ohio State offensive line. I know they had two starters down but Oregon owned those guys most of the night when they wanted to.
I hate to quote myself from the Marshall game but.... it applies....so my initial thought that it was frightening was the correct oneI dont know if I'm happy Marshall is moving the ball to get the Def seasoned and expose some things... or frightened...
except for the fact that we've seen this before.... Marshall... quoting myself from that game threadDefinitely ideal for a bye week, given the penalties and blown assignments.

We had to play zone. Burke couldn’t cover anyone man to man. Burke was a huge issue last night and should have been pulled. Matthew’s has every right to be pissed. The tackling overall was poor once again. The DL is pretty non existent. JTT needs to have his snaps cut in half. Did Sawyer even get off the plane? Ty Hamilton was a non factor. They needed to have a LB blitz on every play. Only way any pressure could have been generated. Plus they weren’t really doing anything with the exception of making tackles 5-7 yards downfield instead of attacking the line of scrimmage. Overall, I don’t believe a single player on D had a champion performance. Failure all the way around.Really believed in the 2nd half we'd make adjustments and create some turnovers against a QB that threw 3 picks in 2 weeks. You have players like Styles and Downs so that you can disguise pressure but yet we continued to sit back in zone hoping the offense would save the day. Would have liked to seen more Caden Curry...JTT continues to over pursue and teams still attack him on those RPOs.
0 sacks, 0 picks, 0 fumbles. Woof.

This is where I am. I don’t have confidence in Day to make the adjustments necessary to be better than an 11-2 team (which is fine for all but like 5 schools of which we are one of those). It looks like the entire defensive staff is not on the same page, DBs were horrible, LBs were bad (remember we have a new LB coach that everyone clamored to hire), and the DL was meh. There is something still rotten in the Woody and it’s starting to look like it’s starting at the top.
Definitely ideal for a bye week, given the penalties and blown assignments.I'm not going to rehash most of the many shortcomings you guys have already pointed out.
I will say, I think for both the players and coaches, I think this is the best possible time for the bye week.
It was just a sloppy game with shitty adjustments and they were from all the usual reasons, poor in game coaching, lack of discipline and the environment in the stadium (and the shit OPI)
But, we can't have dumb penalties (which had not been a problem), lose turnovers, manage the clock like ass and win against good teams on the road (and look, the missed kicks were not as big as that shank turned onside kick, I don't personally think Oregon deserves all that much credit and I think Lanning is a tool.)
Everyone part of the program needs to execute better, all 3 units, all the coaches, everyone. The defense needs to decide if its going to limit big plays or get the football. The offense needs to figure out how its going to account for the defense being able to dictate pressure because they're not scared of the deep ball. But mostly we need to build confidence based on sound execution and leadership.
We're going to have a pretty good idea on Nov 2 if we applied the lessons learned here or not. I realize everyone wants to get back after it but I think a week of camp can help.
For this putting this on LJ, I’m not…necessarily…disagreeing or dismissing that…but it absolutely could be the Knowles scheme instead. For example, the Steelers used to have a DL that established contain and filtered people to the LBs to make a million tackles. Guys like Brett Keisel were really effective at what they did, but they weren’t used as elite pass rushers in that scheme. It’s hard to tell who is at fault, coaches or players, or which coaches, or which players, but something ain’t right.
