#8 Ohio State vs #9 TCU, Thursday March 19, 1215pm ET, CBS

This year is obviously a step forward compared to recent years. The real question is can it continue or is shit gonna fall off a cliff without having Bruce to lean on?

Where do you draw the line? What's an acceptable result next year? If it's the same or gets worse will you then offer criticism?
You still haven’t even bothered to talk about adjustments since what I posted kinda proves you wrong.

They will get criticized by me when I feel appropriate. There’s zero reason to lock in any expectations- as if anything from us idiot fans matter in that regard - until at least the end of the portal season. This weird obsession to be purposely negative without knowing any of the variables is telling.

Florida State kicker arrested for alleged battery on law enforcement officer, resisting with violence

Conor McAneney joined the Seminoles team as a transfer in January

Florida State kicker Conor McAneney was arrested Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on allegations of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and trespassing an occupied structure, according to Broward County jail records.

Court documents list the first two counts as third-degree felonies. Jail records showed McAneney was being held as of Thursday morning. All counts listed as pending and bond set at $0.00.

A Florida State spokesperson told Noles247 that McAneney has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.

The arrest comes as Florida State is in the middle of its spring practice schedule. The team is not currently practicing and is scheduled to resume workouts next Tuesday, with additional practices set later next week and through the end of March.

McAneney joined Florida State as a transfer in January after spending the 2025 season at Division II Quincy University in Illinois. He appeared in 11 games as a placekicker and kickoff specialist, converting 7 of 10 field-goal attempts with a long of 45 yards. He also handled kickoffs, averaging 60.2 yards on 49 attempts with 16 touchbacks.

Originally from Northern Ireland, McAneney comes from a non-traditional football background and previously played Gaelic football before transitioning to American football.

Just sayin': Obviously McAneney didn't read the memo yet that advised all Free Shoes football players to only commit crimes within the jurisdiction of the Tallassee Police Department. The "get out of jail free pass" that they enjoy in Tallassee does not extend to other Florida police departments including those in Broward County.

President Trump signs executive order centered on Army vs. Navy Game preserving traditional time slot

The order directs federal agencies to work with the NCAA, College Football Playoff and broadcasters to prevent scheduling overlap with the Army-Navy Game

trump-order.png

President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order aimed at preserving a long-standing college football tradition, mandating efforts to create an exclusive national broadcast window for the annual Army vs. Navy Game. The order instructs the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Commerce to coordinate with the NCAA, College Football Playoff and broadcast partners to prevent scheduling conflicts during the game's traditional time slot.

It centers on the second Saturday in December, long associated with the standalone staging of Army-Navy.

The Army vs. Navy Game has been played annually since 1930 and remains one of college football's most consistent standalone events. CBS Sports holds the broadcast rights through 2038.

The directive follows Trump's earlier comments in January, when he raised concerns that playoff expansion and an increased number of postseason games could begin to overlap with the matchup's traditional broadcast window. That concern has grown as college football's postseason structure continues to expand, increasing the number of games played in December.

In the order, Trump says such conflicts "weaken the national focus" on the service academies and calls for an exclusive broadcast window so the game is not competing with other college football broadcasts. It also directs the FCC to review whether the Army vs. Navy Game could be treated as a "national service event" under public interest considerations.

The signing came on the same day the Navy football team visited the White House after winning the 2025 Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, which is awarded annually to the service academy champion. Trump has attended recent editions of the Army vs. Navy Game and has repeatedly emphasized its national significance.

While executive orders apply to federal agencies rather than private scheduling bodies, the directive signals an effort by the administration to influence how college football's postseason calendar is structured around one of its most tradition-rich matchups.

My take is mostly about my perception of demand. I think Bynum will have a lot of serious suitors, Mobley a lot but not as many, and Royal considerably fewer than both of them. I have no insight into what they individually actually want to do.
I would say of the 3, Bynum would get the best NIL offers. Royal would get a lot higher interest in the portal than you might think - he was pretty consistently productive & makes solid contributions in multiple areas. Mobley this past season had kind of a boom-or-bust type game & I don't think he's going to be as attractive to coaches as he would be to fans.

NCAA softens targeting punishment: Committee nixes automatic suspensions for players

After more than a decade of complaints from coaches, the NCAA is eliminating the automatic carryover suspension for first-time offenders

cfb.jpg

The targeting rule in college football has long been a subject of discontent among coaches, and finally, change is coming to the penalty structure.

The Division I FBS Oversight Committee approved a one-year trial rule on Thursday that fundamentally reshapes targeting penalties. Now, first-time offenders will be allowed to participate in the next game, regardless of which half the foul occurs. Previously, players charged with targeting in the second half were booted from the game and suspended for the first half of the next game.

A player disqualified for targeting a second time during a season will be required to miss the first half of the next game. A third targeting penalty triggers a full-game suspension. No player in the FBS was charged with three targeting penalties in 2025.

Conferences will now also have the option to file an appeal for second offenses. The appeal can also include the player's first targeting foul. If the NCAA's national coordinator of football officials overturns the targeting foul, the player will not have to sit out the next game.

The baseline, in-game penalties remain. Players charged with targeting will be ejected for the remainder of the contest, and a 15-yard penalty will be assessed to the offending team. The NCAA implemented the targeting foul in 2008, and the ejection penalty was added in 2013. Conference offices have been allowed to appeal disqualification decisions made in the second half of games, further fueling coaches' campaign against the penalty structure.

NCAA - slowly ruining football (rules changes - merged)

The first of many. Wisconsin filed suit against Miami for poaching a recruit.

College football is cooked
It’s worth noting that this guy transferred after the portal was closed in January, for those not reading the details.

NCAA's latest transfer portal proposal takes aim at coaches, money in effort to deter post-spring tampering

If you recall the Xavier Lucas saga from a year ago, it's clear what the NCAA is trying to prevent moving forward

xavier-lucas.png

The NCAA FBS Oversight Committee on Friday zeroed in on a recommendation meant to aggressively penalize teams for adding players outside of the transfer portal window.

Adjusting a proposal initially formed in February, the oversight committee settled on a pair of actions that would occur if a team added a player who wasn't entered into the transfer portal during the January window:
  • The head coach would be prohibited from all football (recruiting and on-field coaching) and administrative duties (team meetings) for six contests.
  • The school would be fined 20% of its football budget.
The committee had previously proposed that a school would also lose five scholarships for adding a player not in the portal outside of the portal window. But that's since been removed from the proposal.

The committee left arguably the two most punishing penalties in its proposal, however. Losing five scholarships isn't crippling in an era where teams can carry 105 scholarship players. A head coach losing his ability to recruit and literally do his job in-season is very stringent. So is a team being fined 20% of its football budget.

The proposal still must be adopted by the Division I cabinet, but it's clear the NCAA is taking aim at a transfer loophole that athletes have taken advantage of over the past year and could have had a major impact this spring.

I get the sense that Mobley wants to come back. Bynum, I don't have confidence that he's coming back as he seemed very undecided yesterday. Of those 3 guys, Royal has the most obvious reason to leave with Thompson coming in at SF. Of course you want to have Mobley, Bynum and Royal all back, but everyone is year-to-year nowadays.

Supposedly OSU plans to hire a GM for the program now, which may be a good thing if that means they actually will have legitimate talent evaluation now.

I’d say that we’ll have to step up quite a bit to keep Mobley and Bynum away from pretty big money elsewhere. Royal, not so much.
