2024-2025 College Basketball General Discussion

True.

What has hurt BIG the most is that Indiana has become a garbage program since Knight was fired.
Yeah, the B1G just hasn't really had that "destination school" for top CBB talent. Beilein was probably the closest the B1G has had to an ace talent evaluator, and he never quite got to the level of Wright or Hurley.

Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I agree with both of you. I think the ceiling of this team is mid tier, 6-4 range. I also think scoring 51.5 points is underperforming. Per Wikipedia, here are the point results of 5th place finishers, where OSU landed, and the champion going back to 2015.

2015 5th: 71.5, OSU 1st: 102
2016 5th: 81, OSU: 86 3rd, PSU: 123 1st
2017 5th: 86.5, OSU: 110 2nd, PSU: 146.5 1st
2018 4th: tied for 80, 6th: 61.5, OSU: 134.5 2nd, PSU: 141.5 1st
2019 5th: 62.5, OSU 96.5 2nd, PSU: 137.5 1st
2020: Covid
2021 5th: 69, OSU: 46 9th, Iowa: 129 1st
2022 5th: 59.5, OSU: outside top 10, PSU: 131.5 1st
2023 5th: 64.5, OSU: 70.5 4th, PSU: 137.5 1st
2024 5th: 67, OSU: 62 8th, PSU: 172.5 1st
2025 5th: 51.5, OSU: 51.5 tied for 5th, PSU 177 1st

OSU scored 62 points last year and finished 8th. Scoring 51.5 points for 5th place, considering more than 2/3 of our total came from Mendez and D’Emilio, is not very good. Based on our team’s pedigree, we should have scored more than that and it’s not unreasonable to have those expectations.

Tom Ryan is a great coach, except for brick throwing. In fact, the whole staff needs to relinquish those duties. Yikes. The assistants are not up to par, imo. Great guys, questionable coaching prowess. Maybe Stieber. Not bashing, but I don’t know what Bo Jordan brings to the table. There needs to be a shake up, but I doubt that happens. What’s Jason Nolf doing these days?

Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 19 Straight B1G Titles)

Amazing. What a comeback
Re: #13 Aidan Kim (OSU) def. #5 Ozan Baris (MSU) 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4)
  • In the feature match on court one, Aidan Kim started with a 6-3 victory over No. 5 Ozan Baris in the first set. Baris then evened the match with a 7-5 win in the second. In the third, the two held serve into a tiebreaker. With the team match on the line, Kim jumped ahead first 4-2. He then went up 6-3 and had the serve. Baris fended off one match point but Kim got him first serve in and won the next point to take the tiebreaker 7-4.
Did you notice that in the final match #13 ranked Aidan Kim beat #5 ranked Ozan Baris for the win, based on the ranking it would be considered an upset?

Re:
Ohio State 18-2; National ranking #3
Michigan State 11-6; National ranking #32

Anyway the Buckeyes have to start winning the doubles point; especially against the better teams.

The Buckeyes return home to host UCLA and USC next weekend. Depending on the forecast the matches will be played outdoors.

There's been a little bit of bad luck and a little bit of bad timing, but mostly the truth is other programs like Duke, Kansas, UNC and Kentucky have been getting the top players every year. You've got to be a really great judge of talent like Jay Wright or Dan Hurley be a national player at the type of programs that are in the B1G.

2025 scUM Shenanigans, Arguments, etc.

I don't think he would have gotten the passwords from the athletic training site....but like I said, crackers are easy to obtain and are usually very fast for most passwords. and since humans are creatures of habit and reuse things, you nailed it - easily repeatable/easily breakable.
Per Brohio, Weiss was able to defeat the poor security on the athletic system password database. From another comment of his on March 27th:

Second thing I want to address is the Weiss situation. I’ve noticed a sentiment of “how could a dumb jock football coach pull off something this complex?” I think that stems from misconceptions people have about hacking they’ve learned from the movies. Hacking isn’t furiously typing on a keyboard while binary code flies across the screen like in the Matrix. It’s heavily reliant on social engineering typically and in this case, Weiss essentially had a cheat sheet in the form of a large database containing email addresses and passwords which he would attempt to use across platforms in hopes women used the same passwords for their other personal accounts. The indictment mentioned he was researching pet names, maiden names etc. This is pretty telling of his methodology. These details are the most common answers to security questions that generate when you submit a password reset request. So he was likely breaking in to accounts he couldn’t access with a password directly (but had access to the email associated with the account) by submitting a password reset. The point I’m trying to make is that this is all very simple stuff.

So the Big Ten title drought continues....25 years now? That's just...pathetic.
