You guys are all older than me, and I'm old.
I was in 4th grade near Columbus, so eastern time zone. It was right before lunch. I remember thinking I had this amazing news to tell people at lunchtime, but everyone had already heard it, of course.
We had "indoor recess" when it was cold enough. So the teacher grabbed what I thought was the only TV in the whole school. They probably had a bunch more. The TV used to be on a cart. TV, VCR, and whatever else was needed. All on the cart. Anyway, somehow she got the space shuttle launch on TV. I'm sure we didn't have cable. Maybe it picked up broadcast. Anyway, she had spent a bit of time that morning talking about it - civilian in space and how this is a big step toward easier and cheaper space travel. Since it was recess, she just let the TV run and we could do whatever we wanted - watch or do something else. I don't know where she went, but she wasn't there when it launched and later exploded. I remember maybe 8 of us actually watching. And I probably wasn't watching too carefully. But I do remember the explosion. I was pretty confused. Then the teacher came back, and some girl ran and told her what happened. She was understandably shocked. But she never turned the feed off. We watched it again and again and again. Then it was time for lunch. Again, I thought I had this amazing news for the friends I had in other classrooms. Remember - I thought this was the only TV in the whole school - no one else could have seen this, right? Anyway, I wasn't first with the news to anyone.
I saw my aunt some time later... maybe it was the summer. She asked me what "NASA" stood for. I told her it was for the National Aeronautical and Space Administration. She said, "Nope. Need Another Seven Astronauts." I was probably 10 years old at this point (9 when the disaster happened) and said to her, straight-faced, "That's pretty sick."

It's possible, but IDK. Mainly because so many parents want to live through their kids and will happily pay whatever to allow their kids to play. And coaches will continue to sell dreams to earn paychecks for themselves.

It's not a detailed analysis on my part, but I think he'll but utilized on the edge like we use Reese. Same measurables anyways, if he has near the instincts and intangibles if Reese of course is a huge variable.

Former Ohio State Kicker Bob Atha Dies at 65​

Former Ohio State kicker, punter and quarterback Bob Atha died Tuesday after a years-long battle with cancer. He was 65.

A Worthington, Ohio, native, Atha served as a backup to quarterback Art Schlichter and placekicker Vlade Janakievski from 1978-80. As a senior in 1981, he took over as the Buckeyes’ starting placekicker while also backing up Art Schlichter at quarterback. Atha led the team in scoring that season with 88 points, converting 13 field goals and 43 extra points while also scoring one touchdown.

Atha’s best game as a Buckeye came on Oct. 24, 1981, at Ohio Stadium, when he set a school record with five field goals in a 29-10 win over Indiana. He still shares that record with Mike Nugent (against NC State in 2004), Josh Huston (Texas in 2005) and Devin Barclay (Miami Hurricanes in 2010).

One of Atha’s most memorable moments nearly came three years earlier in the 1978 Gator Bowl. As he later recalled to The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State was driving deep into Clemson territory when Woody Hayes called for “that freshman kicker” from Worthington. Atha was set to attempt a go-ahead field goal but never got the chance. Clemson defensive tackle Charlie Bauman intercepted Schlichter with two minutes remaining. Hayes punched Bauman on the sideline, which would eventually lead to his dismissal, and Ohio State went on to lose, 17-15.

After his Ohio State career, Atha played in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis (now Arizona) Cardinals. He later returned to Worthington, where he spent several decades working in his family’s oil and gas business.

With the off season upon us. I figured I’d start an interesting thread about the travel sports community at the youth level. Now I’ll admit, I personally don’t have a child under 12(my daughter is 25) playing youth sports. She did competitive dance and cheer, so it was similar. It just always baffled me how much this stuff costs for so few of them to ever earn a college scholarship and for many to even burn out by HS.

Parents are spending $1000s a year for 8-10yos is just insane to me. I have co worker who’s 10yo is playing travel soccer, and I’m talking out of state to FL, TX, NC, etc and he’s not even in MS! I don’t know how this helps or if this kid will even make a college roster as he’s playing year round(inside footsall in winter and outside in spring and summer). AAU bball tourneys have kids playing up to 9gms a weekend in their off season. So from April to July some kids are playing 2-3 games a day on the weekend, that’s an NBa season as a teenager! They all have become a racket, to where the majority of kids pays for the very few talented ones. And the kids who can’t afford to play and need development are being moved aside for the kid who lives in the suburbs and parents can afford every few imaginable.

Here's another music memory. My sophomore year of high school I made varsity baseball and our first road trip was a tourney in Phoenix. We get to our motel and all of the other teams are staying there. Yes, we were all 15-18 years old but it was a giant Keggar. Beer was flowing freely, there were groupies and the coaches were the right in the middle of it. It was my first time and I was sort of a Forrest Gump laying on my bed, reading my history homework, trying to block it all out when one of the groupies who had showed up was suddenly straddling me and rubbing what must have been EEE boobies in my face as everyone else, including my coaches, laughed their asses off. This song was playing at the time
