2026-27 Ohio State Men's Basketball

Almost a Catch 22. The 'good' portal guys will command top dollar, and there's a race to get them. If you don't march up with a bag of cash, they'll go elsewhere. Take your time, they're gone, and the shopping list starts on the second tier. Less money, but more risky. Wait too long, called analysis paralysis, and you're not going to get the difference makers. Move too soon, might not get the fit with current roster that you want. Not saying anything we don't already know, but sometimes gotta bring out the basics. Here's hoping Diebs.

Columbus Symphony Orchestra wants to build $275 million performance space

Where we live in California, we have a symphony. Volunteer, and players are both graybeards and young fresh faces. Common thread is a love to play music. Sounds actually very good, and do enjoy sitting in the theater for a listen. Heartily recommend such a venue in Columbus, as there is an element of people that would support the arts. Just not convinced that that kind of money for 1,600 folk is a worthwhile investment. Especially if it's a 'paying' proposition. Ticket prices would have to be ginormous. Might want to consider a 'stretch' venue, that could be configured to accommodate other types of entertainment. Since symphonies don't play each week, might consider defraying the cost of this thing in other ways. Also, access. Down C'bus is congested, so parking is at a premium. Maybe locate somewhere close to people, but have some open land for parking, etc. PS, my ear isn't that finely tuned, but from those that know, an auditorium that is tuned is a marvelous thing. Not entirely certain the Ohio Theater can be retrofitted without mega-bucks being spent.

Agreed Pippen is a good get, but Jelavic seems just OK. Certainly they will add more players, it's not over by a longshot, but ideally we'll have more quality depth than last season.

The goodness of the Jelavic pickup really depends on Josh O. If they are that confident in Josh O I hope they are right. Jelavic off the bench as a change of pace is a good get but if he ends up having to be the guy they heavily lean on there it's not that good.

I actually love the Pippen pickup. They definitely need another guard who can at minimum push him though and id like to see a SF type who can at least hope to push Thompson

I don't like rushing things. I think they rushed it last season, they went and almost immediately got Gabe Cupps, which did not turn out well. If they are paying a premium to get these guys committed early, it's dumb. There's certainly no reason to push to get Jelavic quickly - not sure what the amount of NIL they're going to give him is, and it had better not be very much based on his production at UK, but I worry they might have went and given him whatever amount he asked for in order for him to commit this quickly.

I'm certainly hoping they have money to get another good player to add to the rotation, and if they don't, it's a sign of poor money management. They supposedly have money to spend on the portal this season, so if Justin Pippen is clearly the best they get & no other big names come on board, then they will have failed. I agree that it's a worry about the team being soft next season. I believe Josh O will help provide more of an interior presence that they otherwise lacked this season, Jelavic is a better rebounder than Tilly, and Pippen at least works to get rebounds from the guard position (not going to be able to match Bruce there but can come close).

I do like the approach better this year they seem to be being more aggressive. Pippen I think is a great pickup and Jelavic at least had some production in a power conference.

Potential is probably still there with Jelavic but it's just that softness worry that always comes with Euro bigs. As long as Josh O stays healthy it's a good combo though.

Yeah, based on the bigs OSU was going after in the portal, it seems they are counting on Ojianwuna to be the main man there. Plus, they wanted a stretch F/C to help fit the offense perhaps better than JO does.
Also as we saw 2 years ago you have to be careful with the transfers you bring in. Less someone you weere counting on goes into the portal last minute.

Not the type of big I was hoping for. Hopefully O is ready to go
It seems pretty clear they are expecting him to be ready.

If he is, and he is able to be close to the player he was at Baylor, this guy gives Ohio State a changeup at the 5 off the bench. Spread the floor and let the shooters shoot and Bynum get to the hoop.

Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

#1 rated transfer C Flory Bidunga is reportedly asking for $5M for one season. Duke is involved.
Saw one place where he was ranked the #9 C in the draft and was projected to be a late first round pick. If he can get $4-5M for one year, he should definitely stay in college.
