Ryan Day is keeping the status quo on special teams.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Day said Jayden Fielding will remain Ohio State's starting kicker, while Joe McGuire will hold serve at punter for the Buckeyes' season opener against Texas.
Ohio State brought in former Ball State kicker Jackson Courville, a Dayton native, in the offseason to challenge Fielding for the starting gig. Courville made 26-of-34 field goals in a two-year stretch and was 11-of-13 on field goals last season, including 2-of-2 from 50-plus yards. Courville was also 54-of-56 on extra points in his Ball State career, missing one in each of his first two seasons.
Nonetheless, Fielding earned Day's vote of confidence Tuesday following an up-and-down 2024 season. Fielding finished 13-of-17 on field goals last season and is entering his third year in Columbus.
His highlights included sealing the national championship against Notre Dame with a 33-yard field goal in the game's final minute, though he also struggled in the Michigan loss with two missed kicks. He did not make a field goal 50 yards or longer in 2024 and has yet to make one in his career.
Meanwhile, McGuire enters his third season at Ohio State and beat out second-year player Nick McLarty for the starting gig. McGuire will be the Buckeyes' starter for the second straight year. He recorded 47 punts last season, averaging 42.1 yards per punt. His longest was a 61-yard punt, and he placed 14 punts inside the 20-yard line.

the pic they chose for Fielding cracks me up. Someone's feeling FABULOUS!

Sounds great to me too

30 team conferences, 3, ten team subdivisions each

A subdivision plays non conference games against the other conference’s A subdivision. B plays B … C plays C

With relegation

Worst team in A demoted to B the next season and so on
Relegation would be the greatest system ever for the sole reason of listening to PAAAWWWWLLLLLL after SEC teams got relegated. Can you imagine the down home fan bases then? :slappy:

So, basically, last game Texas relied heavily on their RBs in the passing game. Their only two TDs came from passes to their RB. How does Patricia scheme against this?
The real question is. How good is Ransoms replacement? That defense was so dominate because we had 2 all time great safeties and designed the defense to let them KILL. We still have a top 3 draft pick at one of the safety positions, and he will be the focal point, but we need another dominate guy on the other side of the ball to become elite.

Maybe Sonny could become a killer this year, he has the tools and even a little more ass over Ransom. Yes I know he is a LBer on paper.

tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Great article from Birm, on OSU beginning to shift their recruiting strategy. In his words, they will be more aggressive but not reckless. I wouldn't expect them to match some over the top numbers from Texas, Miami or USC, but hopefully they can close the gap more

Don't like the #1, but there's no obvious choice, so might as well be.

If Arch ends up being a Heisman finalist, I don't think his performance in this game will help or hurt him. Unreasonable to expect him to go on the road in such a high profile game against what will be a good defense and light up the scoreboard, but I don't think he gets totally shut down either. I'm guessing a stat line of 20-35-250-2-1 or something around there, with some yards on the ground. For the season, I think he surpasses what Ewers did last year, which is a pretty high bar if we're being reasonable (many TX fans and media aren't), but I don't think he meets all the expectations being thrown at him.

Defenses on both sides way out in front of opposing offenses in game 1, so I think this is low scoring. 20-17 Texas. Wouldn't be surprised if Ohio St pulls off the "upset" though (and may not be viewed as an upset when looked at in hindsight by the time we get to November).
