Zwick vs. Smith (official thread)

On the surface, you would seem to be correct, but I would bet a ton that Dantonio is planning on Zwick starting. Think about it--how many pass attempts did Smith have last year? None. Zwick had a minimal amount of attempts himself, yet he was still allowed to "be a quarterback", while Smith was only allowed to run with the ball when taking the snaps. I think Dantonio already has his game plan in the works.

(edit) Damn it! I was talking to my brother while I was typing this and took 20 minutes to finish this, and meantime 27 said exactly what I meant to say, only more succinctly.

thats me.....quick and succinct.

It reminds me of the time during the war of nineteen aught six, we called it aught six back then you know. Anyway, we were all going on to our missions the next day and decided to hit up a saloon. I grabbed my bowler hat, which was the style back then, and ponied up to the bar. barkeep, i said, because what else would you call a barkeep...i mean, really? Anyway, we were getting ready for the war of nineteen aught six. we called it aught six back then you know.....

I think you are correct that Dantonio will prepare for Zwick .....
I just think he has to consider Smith, and prepare some just for that possibility.

I think he would spend less time considering Smith if JT came out and said
JZ is da man.

I think this is part of coaching gamesmanship .......
and I think that is why we do not have a named starter.

Hasn't Coach Tressel basically already said that no matter who starts both quarterbacks will play early in the year? I suspect both quarterbacks should and will play in the opener.

He's said that the last two years also. How much did we get to see Scotty Mac? Of course, if Krenzel wouldn't have kept us in games he shouldn't have, we could have seen a little more of Justin and Troy also.

Its interesting though...

I mean... what's there for Dantonio to gameplan for?

He's going to tell his Defense... "Yep They're gonna run it a lot, and once in a while they're gonna chuck one deep... and keep an eye on that Hamby kid underneath "

Then he's thinking to himslef... that Tressel's crazy like a fox... maybe he'll bust out the Washington/K-State Gameplan on me.

Dantonio's advantage will be the ability to express to Giugdulio (I hope I spelled that wrong) what 'his' Defense will be tryin to do to him... and how to read the keys to what Ohio State does with different looks... (I know Snyder will change some stuff.. but game one.. its still going to be pretty similar.

It's going to be hard to prepare two QB's every week. I still don't know how Coop made it work when Powers and Hoying shared time, as well as Stan J and Joe G.

I think JT will not let himself make up his mind, but his mind is made up.
