Zach Smith (Official Thread)

When you thought a thread involving all of Zach Smith's shennanigans + an overly emotional defense of ZS couldn't be filled with any more shit......you have people liking Skyline.

I assure you this - you give ANY institution a half million bucks to comb through coaches' personal lives, they're gonna find this sort of stuff.

It only becomes a problem, in my IMO, is because some people have this absurdly romantic view that coaches need to be these altruistic deities - infallible in every way.... as was said; see PSU. (Edit: To be clear, there's a chasm between looking the other way to kids being raped in your facilities and an Asst. coach having an affair with another adult and running up a tab at a strip club.. I'm not saying there isn't a line.. I'm saying strip clubs and mistresses doesn't cross it, in my IMO)

As long as no harm is done to others whatever we do in our personal lives (sex toys, junk pix) is nobody's business but our own.

Since I was a child I have collected dolphins. Ceramic dolphins, stuffed dolphins, plastic dolphins. Even a dolphin dil...(no, I am not going there).

I shudder at the thought that someone might comb through my life in such detail and find out what I have done to those dolphins - and what I have allowed those dolphins to do to me.

I don’t think anyone would care if said person were a manager at Skyline Chili. But as a position coach at a prestigious football program, you have to have your personal life in order or it can, AS WE SO CLEARLY SEE, become a problem.
Do you seriously think that college football coaches do not nor have not visited strip clubs, had affairs, or have ever ordered sex toys and even had them delivered to their offices? Are you serious? I would venture to guess that at least half of the college football position coaches have visited a strip club, and most likely the other half are not truthful about it. College football coaches as a group are not exactly saints, priests, clergy members, nor role models. To expect that they behave in their personal lives as you would expect a Preacher is more than a stretch. Hell, most preachers have visited strip clubs and ordered sex toys, are you kidding me.

I am really tired of your high horse position and one day be careful because you may fall off of it.

Does Zach Smith have multiple burner accounts on here? People are really sensitive with this stuff.

It’s not really hard to understand that a prominent person in a prestigious position at the top of their profession going to a strip club (or getting treatment for substance abuse, or being charged with DUI, or not showing up to work) is a bigger deal than John Doe doing the same, yeah?

If it were just some affair, ok. It was an OSU staffer.

If it were just some strip club visit, ok. He took high school coaches.

I get that you are tired of my so-called “high horse” act. I get tired of being stuck in the middle of arguing against the media narrative and against some Ohio State fans who think somehow Zach Smith was just some normal guy going about his business, unfortunate to be married to a crazy person. Zach Smith ain’t that guy. He’s a dick. I don’t know if he assaulted his wife. But I don’t need to know that to conclude he was a dick who shouldn’t have been coaching here.

Way to exaggerate that some OSU fans think ZS is a normal guy. Is this just another way you use to defend your “at least I am better than him” attitude? You get all defensive and respond to every post because of difference of opinions, yet you criticize ZS for responding by defending himself from the nastiest attack that a person can take. Hmmm...

Edit - you don’t have to be stuck in that “middle” you know.

I am conflicted. On one hand, I wish ZS would just shut the hell up, because all of it's doing is keeping this talk going. On the other hand, it's is pretty funny watching him defend himself. I can't say I completely disagree (or agree) with him. I at the very least see where he is coming from.

You know dang well McMurphy isn't coming near ZS, bc you know damn well ZS want's to rearrange his face. What does he have to lose at this point? He is currently one of America's most hated people (for the 15min of fame type)....

I think McWhatever is responding to the threat of legal action. ZS has nothing to lose but probably nothing to spend either. Still, ZS can illustrate the biased reporting and clear intention to do harm. The connection to Tom Herman, the strip club visit, and excerpt emails are toxic to McWhatever, and both of them know it.

So far I have not seen a single member of this site refer to Zach as "some normal guy". I think the consensus is that Zach had/has issues. Maybe I missed the post where someone defended ZS as a "normal guy" and you can direct me to that poster?

Again though, coaches all across America have had affairs, and guess what, most were probably with someone that worked for the University too since that is where most of those kinds of things happen, at the work place. Coaches all across America have visited strip clubs, and yes have taken high school coaches because that is also what high school coaches do. These are not isolated incidents that only ZS has committed some enormous egregious crime in doing so.

And then the real question is how does this actually relate to Urban Meyer? You seem to want to crucify Urban for ZS making some douche bag moves that Urban had no knowledge of, like the affair and sex toys, DUI that was pled down etc.

WTF is Urban supposed to have done? According to you fire him sooner. But for what? Going to a strip club like damn near every single other college football coach has done at some point, including taking high school coaches with them? What did Urban actually do? He put it in ALL of the coaches contracts to avoid those establishments. I think that is quite fair and taking action myself. Is Urban supposed to fire him for the sex toys, affair, and DUI he had no knowledge of?

To whom he held no supervisory authority or the like. I mean, I agree that fuckin around in the office is wrought with potential issues, but there doesn't seem to be any legal problems here, so... I guess I'm inclined to let the adults behave like adults and to suffer consequences of that behavior like adults without getting my hackles up. They had a fling... it ended.. I could give a shit...

I'm sorry.. are HS coaches minors? If I am a HS coach, am I not permitted to go to my buddy's bachelor party because there may be a stripper involved? This is ludicrous. I realize this wasn't a bachelor party, but the point remains... what exactly about HS coaches requires them to be protected here..... Another non starter, if you ask me.

I actually think that McMurphey has a chance to take a higher road by actually taking Smith at his word and interviewing him and getting his side. He MIGHT have to eat some crow if he finds his original reporting to be incorrect, but could ultimately do have himself and his profession some good if he took that risk.

It's too late for that in my opinion. When you go digging through the trash to publicly embarrass/shame a man for stuff pretty much entirely unrelated to the story/investigation at hand, you lose all chance to make it right and try to be professional now. McMurphy has played his cards, he went hack-journalist ultra-scum bag don't care what it does to a man just to get attention... there is no going back from that.

I am sure ZS would love the chance to confront the F'er face to face, but seeing as how McMurphy has already proven himself as a little vindictive girl, I don't see him manning up now and doing that.
