Zach Smith (Official Thread)

Track record speaks for itself. Dude is an amazing recruiter, but that's not the position for which he is employed. I'm sure we can shuffle him around to a less crucial portion of the staff.
Count me in as Smith being completely overrated. Mike Thomas is the best WRs he's ever coached and he arguably received more coaching from Uncle Keyshawn. Devin Smith had a 3-game stretch where he caught fire. Otherwise the dude was good for one big catch a game and that was it. Philly Brown was inconsistent as well but more reliable than Smith.

And all those guys were Tressel recruits

Can you believe it? Tressel has arguably had better offensive talent than Ubrz has had despite Tress's offenses sucking donkey scrotum for the most part.
Tessel has his guys seemed to have a better eye for talent and didn't pay attention to Star ratings.

Tressel recruited better receivers. Urban has hit gold with Elliott and Weber/Dobbins seem to be NFL caliber. Urban recruits much better offensive lineman. On the defensive side it's pretty much a wash. They both have had great players at all positions on that side of the ball

No tressel defense would get lit for 800 yards passing over 2 games.

I love man press but if we don't have the personnel to run it then don't. Obviously it's been proven we don't have the skill to do it and our linebackers are not disciplined enough to handle that style of defense.

I would move to a tight cover 2. This way our guys have their eyes facing forward, We protect the seams, we stop our over pursuing and we play a more bend but don't break defense.

At this point giving up 250 yards throwing is going to feel like shutting a team down.

Also I wouldn't say Tressel's offenses completely sucked. He was trying to play a different type of game than Meyer. The clinic that Dantonio put on us in the BTCG was the quintessential Tressel game. Wear the other team down and eat up the clock. Urban just wants to go as fast as possible and score as quickly as possible.

The problem was that Tressel never seemed to have good offensive lines. However considering that we have great RB's and offensive line, maybe Urban would be better off taking a Tressel approach this year
