YOUR 2016 Cleveland Indians Thread (American League CHAMPS!)

Oh no! They've lost a career minor leaguer who started the grand total of 50 games for the Tribe last year. I thought the best part was that Hoynsie quoted the new GM as not knowing whether Abe could play in Spring Training games... Even the Bad News Bears knew the rules.

Actually this is pretty concerning.. and only because on May 20th last year these guys were 16-23 and were on pace to compiling the worst defensive season in the history of ever. (or the history of anyone remembering) after that... and improving as Lindor, Gio, Almonte, (readding Chisenhall to the OF) were added, and Swish, Murphy and whatever other clowns they had got fired. Point is, these guys, to have a shot, need to play D like that again... Almonte was over his head at the plate, so I don't know if they have in their mind that Tyler Naquin is ready. (and it appears the first game that's where he was) My real concern is having 1. A Real Center fielder and 2. Making sure no one gets the bright idea that Brantley should be that guy when he comes back.

I 100% agree they need a decent glove in CF to come close to winning anything. But I don't think Abe was or will be the answer. In the less than 1/3 season he played in Cleveland last year he took some ugly routes to the ball, got turned around, etc. too many times to be more than barely average over the course of a full season. He's not a rookie and not likely to get much better while working on his tan in AZ for the first 3 months of the season either.

Oh, yeah, in some ways it was the weakest position, and as such any drop off wouldn't be all that bad most likely, offensively... If naquin can play D and not totally suck at the plate, fine

Dr. Smooth back in action, so we have that going for us, which is nice.

Also Tyler Naquin is hitting the cover off the ball this spring. So he'll win a roster spot and hit .143 in April.

You clearly don't follow the Indians. True tribe roster management dictates that they send naquin to AAA, where he'll hit .300 all year, while rajai Davis or whatever other scrub/platoon hits about .225 combined. Then, naquin will get a call up in late August and hit about .260. So, the Indians will hand him the cf job next year, where he'll chisenhall (new verb, officially trademarked).
