I know it was self-reported...but it was the media that fanned the flames. I know it is a two-way street, but I wish the sensationalism was left at home.

Well, it may not be "fair", but it is a common practice for a judge to give a stiffer sentence to an offender when the judge thinks that offender may have done something else - or worse - than the charge for which they were found guilty.

Now, this is not a criminal matter, obviously, but the fact remains that juries and judges are human. If they thought that violations occurred that they could not uncover because of the no-subpoena power limitation, then they may (and I mean may) have done what judges often do - give a sentence that is on the "high" end of the possible range because of some thoughts they had that the offender they were sentencing was getting away with something.

To be sure, they should NOT do that to an extreme. They should only judge the merits of the evidence in the case directly before them. To do otherwise is unfair, and literally penalizing you for things you have not done (or have not been proven in any event). But I have to say that human nature is still in play - and that I have seen this occur again and again in action in real life adjudications. I don't think you can rule out some kind of "high end of the scale" result because of that situation.

I wish you could drop this bowl. I have a bad feeling about your guys finding some extra motivation for the juniors now that you did not have before.

It explains why Gene could have been wrong about the bowl game. It makes a Hell of a lot more sense to me than some claim of insufficient Google searches of NCAA precedence. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you've retained a firm with a specialization in NCAA enforcement/penalty matters. Trust me, they researched the shit out of every case since Jim Thorpe played at Carlisle. They billed you for it too. That explanation seems - to me - to explain the disconnect. Call it a "pissed off" factor if you like. All I can say is that I have seen it in action.

Unfortunately HELL YEP.

Ohio State will be just fine. But I do say we got shafted and the release of the punishment coming after we accepted to go play in a truly meaningless bowl game is about shotty as hell. Then in that case why all of a sudden was there this big push by them to hurry up and hand this down now????? I had read it was supposed to be in Feb some time. Oh thats right thats after NLOID and they apparently didnt like the hey Meyer was making in recruiting and thought this would slow the dominance down possibly. NOPE to bad so sorry wont change a thing slappys. :oh: :pissed:

You're assuming Gene Smith can be taken at his word. I have no idea why, other than a launching pad for a lengthy discussion.

Unionfutura posted previously that their research firm recommended six scholarships and a postseason ban, which OSU chose not to follow.

In a nutshell, this is what happened to USC. Primarily because all the shit that came out, came out with a recalcitrant athletic department and a private university that could thumb its nose at information requests, not being subject to FOIA.

When you put it like that, it makes it sound like some high stakes heist involving lasers and impenetrable glass cases. C'mon now, he paid them a few bucks extra an hour to work at a car wash. Not to mention the fact that he seems to think that just since one player was involved at USC compared to nine at tOSU, that what happened here was automatically worse. The long list of violations at USC speaks for itself, in my IMO.

But the real reason I enjoyed the article was this gem from the comments:

ohio state blows , the big ten blows, southeast is the best, they dont play nobody real, just like when ohio state came to play the gators they got there @#$% ripped up.

"Funnled". :rofl: I can't stop laughing at his use of that word. Like it was all done thru illegal wire transfers to Boom's account in the Caymans. Posey was strictly Swiss banks all the way.

Even if a few recruits jump ship or decide to not attend...oh...fuckin'...well. Urbie isn't going anywhere. IT's still a wrap.
