buckeyefool;1941744; said:10tv has been pissed off at the university since the Big Ten network came to town. Before the Big Ten Network, 10th would get the first couple of games that did not get picked up on a national level as part of the espn+ or what ever they use to call it. Once Big Ten Network showed up they lost a huge revenue stream for a few saturdays in the fall.
The Wolf Brothers, now John Wolf I guess, have/has long had a turf war with the university.
The Battelle/OSU economic engine often gets in the way of how Wolf wants to run the city.
The physicians at the Med School have a voice in who gets on hospital boards of directors -- at one point in time there was a Wolf or a Wolf relative on every hospital board in southeast Ohio-- and this leads to clashes.
The liberal political voice is counter to his. Open housing, free speech, Cold War and censorship were issues where the two sides clashed long and loud throughout the 50s, 60s and 70s.
The school remembers when open enrollment and dorm complexes were forced on it, and its status as the flagship university undermined by Jim Rhodes - hand picked and heavily supported by the Wolfs and the Dispatch/WBNS - and the former president of Miami, John D. Millett - a Wolf brothers political appointment to chair the higher education commission. The Miami president succeeding Millett, Phillip Shriver, continued to create degree programs and expanded campuses to the detriment of OSU.
You can't draw up an in-10/20/30-year plan for Coumbus/Franklin County/Ohio and leave the bright folks from OSU out and then the plan gets away from Wolf's ideas of how city/county/state growth should run.
OSU football was one thing the Brothers/Dispatch/WBNS liked about the place, especially because the football program clashed so often with the elements of the school the Wolfs detested.
