I know this is totally unrealistic, but how awesome would it be if SI wrote an article trying to bring OSU down, but OSU brought them down instead? :banger:

I know I've gotten some shit for "defending" the media on here (and I understand why).

I have a couple of questions for either you or anyone else who knows regarding the profession. First, can SI pay for an interview? And if so, is it likely they did?

Second, is it appropriate to run the accusations of one source? And if so, what if it's a source with a questionable background for telling the truth?

Score of The Game, initials, maybe even the year...what exactly are you getting at?
That if there was no identifying marks, then if would be likely, even possible, for someone like - you - to inscribe something like "TP's Gold pants, Black Mass 2011", sell them to Joe Shad for an inflated price, and buy cases of cheap beer with the proceeds.

I'm glad to see that threat is lowered.

I don't know. I've only worked for The Lantern, and we didn't pay for interviews. I can't imagine paying for interviews would be a very good way of conducting business. First, you're losing money. Second, if you're paying for interviews, you're defeating the purpose of interviewing the person. They're obviously going to side with you more than they did before you gave them money. Just my opinion. I hope it doesn't happen that way, and I don't think it does.. but I could be wrong.

EDIT: I mean, I'm sure it happens, but SI shouldn't need to pay anyone to get them to talk to them.

Just depends on if the writer(s) and editor(s) think the source is legitimate. Apparently they found these sources legitimate. Looks like they were wrong.

Do you know anything about the pay for a story question? Is it common practice to pay sources for info like a poster above asked? I would think not
