Tlangs;1926708; said:so the football players are guilty but Bufford (and Diebler/Dieblers dad) who bought cars at the same place are ok. good to know.
I wonder if Titus knows that if the football program comes down, basketball is too. 2 guys out of 10 is 20% of the hoops team getting extra benefits.
I don't think Tlangs was saying Titus was claiming it's OK if basketball players do it, but not OK if football players do. He was saying it's odd that a basketball player is saying "yep....all them football guys probably did get free cars. oh, those guys on that list who played basketball? no, they're innocent. the football players, though.......they're dirty."That's not what he was saying at all... Did you even read it?
Titus claims to have driven Buford to practice every day, so unless he bought the car this past year, then he did not get a car from that dealer. He also claimed that his 1997 SUV was always one of the nicest cars on the basketball team.
He's not saying it's ok if the basketball players did it, he's saying that they didn't as far as he knows.
tBBC: No Need To PanicOver the past few months, the news swirling and trickling out of Columbus has been a slow, tortuous experience for Buckeye fans. Described as either ?death by papercut? or ?dripping water torture?, it?s resulted in many members of a passionate fanbase to react in interesting ways. Some respond aggressively- questioning the media that?s reporting each new and ?new? detail of the ongoing situation. Others choose to redirect their attention- choosing to focus instead on the stellar performances from the Men?s Volleyball, Tennis, Baseball, and Track teams as well as the work being done by the Women?s track and field squad. Still another group has adopted a ?bunker mentality?; choosing to hunker down and lay low by not engaging media or talk at the watercooler until it?s all blown over? whenever that may be.
I tend to vacillate between all three of these; I question the media?s selective attentiveness to the Ohio State story at the expense of others, I was among the first to text my Volleyball (and Penn State fan) friends when the Bucks took the trophy, and I gave up watching ESPN for Lent and haven?t gone back (I?ve got twitter? what else do you need these days?).
But I?ve got a word of truth for all three groups of people and those who fall somewhere in between: This is not horrific, and may in fact be one of the best things to ever happen to Ohio State?s Athletic Department.
The last guy, John Porentas especially hits the homerun. There are fewer and fewer guys I'm willing to read because pageviews have become as important as ratings so "journalists" have become more and more like Mark May and Collin Cowherd.BB73;1926773; said:A discussion of how the media members have handled things involved with the JT story, it's a worthwhile read.

probably nothing new, but it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people don't know about the YSU transgressions of the past.buckeyeinfla;1926949; said:Sports Illustrated article on this whole thing out Tuesday 5/31. will detail jim tressel's issues at YSU...not sure what they bring to the table in the way of new information

Most of his business is repeat business and word of mouth because people direct their freinds and family to him. Its how that business operates. Its sales. You build a clientele. This guy just happened to build a clientele of football players. My brother in law has lawyers, judges, baliffs, you name it coming to him, because it only takes one guy at the county courthouse to say, "You're looking for a car? I know this guy at ________. Go see him. He knows his shit"

you would think it would be hard to dig up new info a decade later. should be interesting to see then if that's the casebuckeyeinfla;1926967; said:some are saying it is new stuff and it could be very damaging to tressel.
BUCKYLE;1926517; said:No one's ignoring a fucking thing. I haven't seen a confirmation that the tickets were from players. Tho, if my mom thought someone saved her son a couple grand on a car loan she was paying for, while not breaking any rules that would hurt the school I love, she may...persuade me...to hook the dude up. Also, it could've been as innocent as "hey, if you're gettin' rid of any bowl tickets...lollololololololololol"...and the first dude gives them up, the subsequent players coming in..."hey, the first Buckeye I sold a car to gave me bowl ticks...so...lololololololololol". I'm not suggesting any of what I say is true, only that it's not impossible to explain. I don't think anything I said is that far out of range, either. But whatever. You're determined to hang tOSU, and that's your right. I'm not saying you're not justified. I've just been thru this bull-fucking-shit before, and it seemed then, as it does now, there was too much smoke!!1!! OMGZ!!211!!...I'll believe it when I see it.

It's as though people in the media are so worried about trying to prove they know something that they don't even bother to worry about whether they actually understand anything.
Right or wrong, Tressel has done very little to earn any currency within the media. He often treats them as hostile enemies, or at the very least spies with ulterior motives. Members of the media are not
provided the same access to Ohio State's football program that many other big-name schools allow, and Tressel has become a master at dodging questions he would rather not answer with long-winded filibusters about a topic of his choosing. As a result, the media pulled no punches when Tressel lost his foothold on the high ground because it's a lot easier to continue poking fun at his apparent hypocrisy than it is to come up with something original.
