Feels like a former player to me...if I had to guess, it's a former player with a bit of a dead-end career at this point, who has/had previous knowledge of these transactions with Rife.

Maybe said player had contact with JT after the fact and let him know what he saw from his experiences. Said player is now an anonymous contact collecting somehow through this story...

Just feels like we're looking at someone with direct contact to the program and JT vs. some booster or outside "source".

BTW, the Athletic Dept lost a little wiggle room in honesty with there ridiculous tales of players not having the proper education in illegal benefits and selling of memorabilia...especially after Thaddeus and Antonio Pittman took to twitter and blew that theory out of the water.

Thankfully the Auburn, USC and Oregon things are taking place in the same time and place.

It does seem a bit strange to have all of these "happenings" in such proximity. I smell witch hunt or at best an attempt to spread the wealth of the media whores and keep it's attention off of it's darlings in the south.

I'm very interested to hear from Tressel. Yahoo has a terrific reputation, but their story is only as credible as their source. I trust Jim Tressel and I will believe whatever he says tommorrow - and that could possibly include an admission. We shall see.

If we don't hear from JT, I will take silence as an admission.

Bill, I think you may be on to something. I initially was thinking someone from inside the school but your theory makes sense.

Well, in this scenario the former player would likely have no way to prove that the conversation with Tressel took place unless it was in a group setting.

Again, this is Yahoo, not a blog. Their unnamed sources are probably very legitimate sources who just don't want their names involved with such a negative story.

Or, just to play devil's advocate here, perhaps Yahoo has an alterior motive in all of this...

Yahoo itself is having financial issues. It's clearly been surpassed by Google and Bing is also biting into it.

Add to that they generate revenue from ads much like a lot of other sites do. How do you get a spike in it? Take on the biggest fanbase and one of the most successful/hated schools in the nation.

I can do the anonymous source thing too
