I'm sitting here with a Nebraska fan watching UFC and he couldn't disagree with you more. So apparently it is not as universal as some might think.

Likely true S&G. There is an anti-tOSU bias in the south that well could be slanting my perception. But I think it is safe to say that skepticism is a majority view. Just saying that waiting until the appeal is lost to announce that diminishes the - sincerity - of it in many people's minds, as it looks contrived.

"Looks" has nothing to do with reality. Things can look one way and not be correct. Here, I was addressing perception, not reality. Only the people involved can know that

I gotcha. I have a pet theory - one that has Tress having to do with Tress having to do what the high dollar consulting firm hired by tOSU says to do in all aspects of this. I do not think that most of the planning and idea behind the timing and "PR" aspect of this is actually Coach's fault. In fact, he seems uncomfortable having to follow the game plan laid out for him in this situation. I think this is the idea of the mavens in the administration building. I mean, I do not doubt the sincerity of his comments...but I think the timing of it all is not his to make.

Agreed...

His naivety is not a mutually exclusive concept/accusation from your self-righteousness

As for analyzing where his head is at, he's barely posted on the subject. You've posted 68 times in this thread and the all-in (though that pales in comparison to Gator's 148 ).
We can all agree that the number of times I've posted won't make what I say any more true.

But a paucity of posts by anyone won't make their opinion any more valid either.*

*Simply by virtue of their post count. You can factor in it is my wind bag opinion versus theirs, however

Perception is almost always going to be overwhelmingly negative when college athletic scandals break, particularly if they dig up any proof of impropriety that was overlooked or hidden.

This is pretty rhetorical stuff, especially when a top squad is involved, particularly from another conference.

I'm awaiting a heads up post from Gator that people won't give Oregon the benefit of the doubt, as shocking and unknown as that might be.

Most people view it as Phil Knight's paid-for hobby. Could be wrong.

I do not see many folks making posts that Oregon is the victim of haters who have nothing to base a negative opinion on, so I seldom address that.

So glad you brought this up, I've been waiting for this myself.

I mean, ubet is the foremost authority on public perception outside of our quaint little world of Buckeyedom. The man* saved half of us from suffocating on Brutus's colon, we owe him our lives.

Well Sloop, I think you all are owed far better than you are getting, PR wise. And you can call that whatever you want - me being "chagrined" or....whatever.

I think you are going to win the NCAA tournament going away. I think your PR advice on this whole thing - including the press conference - has been a cluster [censored]. Fortunately, the success of the former first prediction will rise and fall independently of my thoughts. Which makes it exactly like the second.

I think many people in Ohio thought the presser was a disaster. That opinion spans most viewpoints (JT lied, JT fell on a grenade, JT wasn't innocent but more will come out to make him look better, armageddon is coming, etc)

I just call it you being aware of your surroundings, which I commend you for in your old age.

FWIW, I'm not entirely sure there was any "good" way to go about dealing with all of this from a PR standpoint, so as a fan my only hope is that this is over with soon, clean or otherwise. I can only hope that that is the goal of the program as well, but we won't know until the NCAA gives its verdict.

I'm almost happier with letting "public perception" get the venom out of its system finally. I feel most sorry for the students and players that won't get the recognition they deserve because of some sort of "haze" over the program right now.

Meh. That has a short shelf life. They will bring it up constantly for 5 games, but if you are 5-0, nobody will give a shit except Michigan fans after that.

Announcers will tire of referencing that storyline about as quickly as they lost interest in whether Denard ties his shoelaces and Zbikowski ever boxed.
