"I request of the university that my sanctions now include five games so that the players and I can handle this adversity together."

Why continue this "everyone look at me and admire my goodness" campaign?

OSU either got feedback already that 2 games wasn't going to be near enough or was waiting to see if the players suspension was reduced so he could then match it at that point. If its the case of the latter why not just say so at the first presser? What would be wrong with a statement of "the coaches suspension will match the players once the appeal to the NCAA is complete"? Not senatorial enough?

Either way posing it as a recent decision he made out of pure magnanimity to show solidarity with the troops comes across as disingenuous at best.

In addition the continued ad-hoc responses that leave more questions than answers from the athletic department reinforce my belief that Gene Smith is in way over his head and that there is more to come.

im starting to wonder, NCAA accepts the 5 game suspension as enough, then we go on to win it all this year. More media slamming us saying JT should have been suspended longer or more sanctions should be in place like being barred from a bowl game. its starting to look like a loose loose situation this coming year. :/
How fuckin' loose can the situation get?

Why do you hate good people?

If Ohio State wins it all this year, I have a hard time seeing the "lose" in the situation. Of course, I also don't give a rat's dick about the media "slamming" Ohio State.

This.

Those people hated Ohio State BEFORE any of this occurred and they would have continued if it hadn't as well.

From my vantage point the only one who appears self-righteous in all this is you...

That is the universal perception outside of the program. The phraseology suggests that it was a decision made for the good of the program and to "share the penalty" together. A cynic might question why the 5 games penalty plan was not implemented until the NCAA denied the appeal - as a heart-felt desire to share the penalty with the kids could have been arranged and announced prior to the suspensions being upheld, no?

You do not have to agree with the people that are laughing at the timing and the statement, but it is naive to think that most people outside of Buckeye country buy the explanation on its face. I think it was a smart thing to do, but I think that it was "NCAA still deciding on the proper penalty" driven, and not due to an altruistic desire by Tress to share the pain. If that were so, taking that stance before the appeal was denied would have been a nice touch.

There still isn't much if any confusion over this, but thanks.

Biased fans looking for silver linings or the best in their guys will still happen no matter how many times you post this.

Personally, I'm pretty turned off by the whole thing, but that's a separate issue from fans having their take (read THEIR, not the nation's).

I'm sitting here with a Nebraska fan watching UFC and he couldn't disagree with you more. So apparently it is not as universal as some might think.

Doing something for the good of the program (which I agree with) and coming across as be self-righteous (which I do not agree with) are two
different things.

I gotcha. I have a pet theory - one that has Tress having to do with Tress having to do what the high dollar consulting firm hired by tOSU says to do in all aspects of this. I do not think that most of the planning and idea behind the timing and "PR" aspect of this is actually Coach's fault. In fact, he seems uncomfortable having to follow the game plan laid out for him in this situation. I think this is the idea of the mavens in the administration building. I mean, I do not doubt the sincerity of his comments...but I think the timing of it all is not his to make.

Considering where your head has to be from your vantage point I'm not real worried about it.
His naivety is not a mutually exclusive concept/accusation from your self-righteousness

As for analyzing where his head is at, he's barely posted on the subject. You've posted 68 times in this thread and the all-in (though that pales in comparison to Gator's 148 ).

Are a lot of people laughing about it? I haven't been paying attention.

Honestly to me it seems like other people care about this whole situation more than Buckeye fans.

Maybe it's just me though.
