Yahoo accusations against SEC

Statewide Florida has a bunch of "damn Yankees" (those who don't leave), but let me assure you that Gainesville and environs remain Deep South.

Down here in florida, we refer to the panhandle as southern alabama, miami area as northern havana and central florida (and biggest part of florida) as an extension of the north. Key west is its own country.

Doyel being Doyel.

If Alabama knew star offensive tackle D.J. Fluker was on the take, then the NCAA should throw the book at the Crimson Tide. Reduce their scholarships. Put them on probation. Take away, yes, the 2011 and '12 national championships.

But only if Alabama knew -- or should have known -- that Fluker had jeopardized his eligibility by accepting money from a middleman.

Otherwise, what are we talking about here? We're talking about a handful of alleged cheaters in this story, none of them named "Alabama."
Fluker broke NCAA rules by taking money from a leech trying to get his hooks into a future NFL draft pick, if the allegations in this story are true. And if true, the leech in question -- former Crimson Tide defensive end Luther Davis -- broke Alabama state law by giving money to a college athlete. So did any agent or financial adviser Davis was representing.

That's a lot of alleged cheaters and rules-breakers and criminals.

Know who didn't cheat or break any rules or laws?

Alabama.

Arian Foster admits in documentary he took money at Tennessee

"I don't know if this will throw us into an NCAA investigation -- my senior year, I was getting money on the side," said Foster. "I really didn't have any money. I had to either pay the rent or buy some food. I remember the feeling of like, 'Man, be careful.' But there's nothing wrong with it. And you're not going to convince me that there is something wrong with it.
"There were plenty of times where throughout the month I didn't have enough for food," Foster said in the 90-minute documentary. "Our stadium had like 107,000 seats; 107,000 people buying a ticket to come watch us play. It's tough just like knowing that, being aware of that. We had just won and I had a good game, 100 yards or whatever You go outside and there's hundreds of kids waiting for you. You're signing autographs, taking pictures, whatever.
"Then I walk back, and reality sets in. I go to my dorm room, open my fridge, and there's nothing in my fridge. Hold up, man. What just happened? Why don't I have anything to show for what I just did? There was a point where we had no food, no money, so I called my coach and I said, 'Coach, we don't have no food. We don't have no money. We're hungry. Either you give us some food, or I'm gonna go do something stupid.' He came down and he brought like 50 tacos for like four or five of us. Which is an NCAA violation. [laughs] But then, the next day I walk up to the facility and I see my coach pull up in a brand new Lexus. Beautiful."

Should we now start counting the SEC schools that won't be on probation shortly? :urban1:
Let's see....um...uh...um...
Go Vandy!

All of them! Don't you forget that The University of SEC gets away with murder.

EDIT: They will combine this with the Money Badger's case and determine that the players should be able to receive money and there will be no punishment. It should also be noted that USC's and OSU's punishments will have to be continued.

Just read this article. So he first says he took money because he needed to pay rent and eat. Then he says he has a great 100 plus yard game in a sold out 107,000 seat stadium (university making money off of him) and he goes back to his DORM and sees an empty fridge.
First, he says he needs to pay rent, then says he going back to his dorm, which doesn't charge rent. Then, no one is going hungry. Room and board is included as part of a full scholarship. I don't get it, the scholarship provides them with everything they NEED. Not everything they want, but everything they need. No full scholly athlete is going hungry of living on a park bench. I'm not saying a little walking around money would be a bad thing (I'm all for it), but that's not what this is about, this is about Gettin' PAID. Go aheadl and throw a grand a month at them to give them walking around money, but that won't stop all the whining. Those that are complaining won't be happy until they are driving a Bentley to practice.

I agree. In no way does an athlete gain 20 pounds of muscle progressing through his collegiate year while starving. Most of these athletes are chugging down $100+ dollars worth of protein a month, and are also eating a ton of lean proteins (steak, chicken, fish, eggs, etc) throughout the entire day and snacking all the time for muscle growth. It is impossible to grow your muscles in the way a football player does without eating satisfyingly. You do NOT get as big and muscular as college football players do while eating shitty foods like McDonalds or Wendys. He was eating just fine.

As for Foster specifically, he should have stayed on campus if he knew he wouldn't be getting free meals by moving off base. It was HIS choice to move and give up his benefits.

In no way can the NCAA regulate a paying of players. A stipend of spending cash? Sure. But unless you want to see majority of collegiate sports fold (not just football), you can not employ players.

One of the comments in the SI page:

I believe Arian Foster took some money or meals at Tennessee.

But he's a liar when he says, "'Coach, we don't have no food. We don't have no money. We're hungry." or "There were plenty of times where throughout the month I didn't have enough for food."

My wife was a scholarship athlete at Tennessee. I've eaten in their athletic dining hall. It's badass. It's fully stocked. It's open early and late. It's FREE for scholarship athletes. Athletes are allowed to take food out of it and back to their living places.

I suppose it's possible that Foster is so stupid that he didn't realize he had unlimited access to free food, but I have never thought Foster to be a stupid dude. So, he's lying. Why? I don't know.
