Yahoo accusations against SEC

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf-...e-benefits-to-five-sec-players-202513237.html

Charles Robinson has a very detailed report out about 5 SEC players (including DJ Fluker and Tyler Bray) reciving money and benefits.
Holy shit...
Davis declined to comment for this story. However, Yahoo Sports was able to authenticate text message records, Western Union fund transfers, banking statements, flight receipts and other financial material linking both Davis and the five college football players. Yahoo Sports also found that three NFL agents and three financial advisers engaged Davis in transactions totaling $45,550. The three agents were Andy Simms, Peter Schaffer and John Phillips. The financial advisers were Jason Jernigan, Mike Rowan and Hodge Brahmbhatt.

talk about through reporting...

Although the dollar amounts aren't as large, one can find these kinds of shenanigans at most good Division 3 college football programs. I have "improper benefits" fatigue, since they occur everywhere. It's a matter of chance whether and where one actually can prove they happen. Pisses me off that tOSU was caught, but had Tressel not lied about it the whole thing could have blown over much quicker.

Exactly. Tressel should have instead taken an NFL job and the University should have done everything it could to not cooperate.

That is some insanely good reporting, and some pretty damning evidence. This looks a lot more actionable than the Duh U situation. This should be very interesting to see what happens.

I've said it before - but the things occurring in Tuscaloosa are going to make the Miami situation seem like a parking ticket.

Between paying players, high school coaches, threats of violence to keep people quiet, steroid use and a whole bundle of other fun things. It would take monumental action for the "world-wide leader in sports" to highlight these transgressions.

Remember when Fluker's twitter was "hacked" back in April?

Oversigning already means certain conferences are playing by different rules. If these programs get away with this stuff happening and get a slap on the wrist, it just further drives the narrative that certain progams can do whatever they want and get away with it.

Yahoo continues to [Mark May] on SI when it comes to investigative journalism.

Yahoo is what SI used to be in their glory days in the 60s and 70s: simply the best and most thoughtful sports reporting for what goes on outside the lines. If it comes from yahoo, I trust it a great deal, which is why I can't wait to see if espn will jump on the bandwagon in the same fashion that they did the yahoo reporting on our scandal.

Not holding breath.
