XBox 360, PS3 or Wii? ( ESPN on 360 for TWC)

Good point. I do prefer the 360 controller, but not by much. Is your controller wireless? If so how did you get it to work with your pc? I know the wired one's you just need to download drivers. I know there is a little adapter for the wireless controllers to work on a pc as well.

I use the wired one with my PC. The drivers download automatically. Takes a few seconds. For wireless ones you need a receiver. The wired one is not an issue for me since I sit close to the monitor for PC gaming anyway. All of my PC peripherals are wired, of course most of the reasons are hard core gamer reasons. I wouldn't call myself a hard core gamer, but all the cool PC peripherals are wired.

Price: 360

On average, the 360 arcade sales are $150 less than the PS3 slim deals, which are scarce (and usually involve bundled games more than major price savings).

This difference in price is about the cost of buying a 20GB hard drive & a blu-ray player, which imo nullifies the value of the ps3, unless you have an old tv with too few hdmi ports.

Xbox 360 Arcade Spring 2010 Bundle + $30 Gift Card $130

Online:

More reliable, robust, and populated system.

Following your friends in the party system is great for staying together in gaming servers, or joining a friend in am existing game.

The party chat system is huge. Playing bad company 2 with 8 teammates connected via voice chat is great, especially since the regular game only offers 4 player chat. The teamwork and joking is fun.

I also enjoy it for coordinating activities. Having folks in a party chat helps with planning a team match for a fps (someone might be off playing a random game while waiting for a teammate to show up)... Or during ncaa offseasons, we chat, drink and make fun of fothdogs mom throughout the tedious steps. This also speeds up communication when a user is not done or is but did not back our far enough for it to upload/register as done. Typing messages is very time consuming, especially when exchanging multiple... plus it halts the user from finishing up, making then even later.

The cost of an annual membership is about 33 bucks during most sales. Only suckers buy it at retail cost, but those folks make best buy the entertainment leader of the us.

Movie Playback: PS3

Both devices offer Netflix streaming & online rental/downloads of movies through the XBL/PS Network.

The PS3 offers a blu-ray player, which is a huge advantage, IF YOU USE IT. If you are the type to spend a premium on buying & renting blu-ray movies, then this is a great feature and makes it painful to watch regular dvds. If you only do it once in awhile because of the high cost of the discs, then this technology is not as useful.

Controller: 360

Both controllers are good, but the joystick placement on the 360 is more comfortable, as is the ergonomic shape of the controller. The PS3 isn't bad by any stretch.

Games: 360

This advantage isn't huge (like PS2 held over the Xbox), but it is there. Microsoft has paid a lot of money to have a better chunk of the exclusive titles, but especially an advantage with the expansion packs, either getting them earlier or sometimes exclusively. As far as titles, you'll get the vast majority for both.

The mainstream titles are largely on both (EA Sports titles & first person shooters), but the Mass Effect, Halo, Gears of War series are also very mainstream and not available for PS3. The PS3 has Grand Turismo, Metal Gear Solid & Resistance but I believe the 360 list is a bit more popular.

Either way it's not a huge factor in your decision. If you are in love with those series, it could shape your decision. Otherwise, you'll be happy with either set of games, since they largely overlap.
Overall I prefer the PS3 because it runs quieter and I haven't had any problems with it. The Blu-Ray addition is a real nice + and when I bought my PS3 the XBox 360 didn't have an internal WIFI. The new 360 closes the gap, but Blu-Ray wins. I think the 360 will be obsolete before the PS3 technology-wise.
Not at playing games, but playing movies.

One thing I hate about xbox 360 is the stupid points system. I thought I read somewhere a while back that they were going to change it back to dollars.

I think the netflix experience is way better on the 360. For starters you don't have to get up and put a disc in to use it.

Just to throw in a random 2 cents....PC games are once again starting to reach levels of graphics that really stand out vs. consoles. Took a little longer this time, but after I play a PC game and then play a console game it is really noticeable.

There are more ported games these days, so PC gaming is not as advanced as it used to be. Yet going from a PC game to a console is night and day now.

Of course I also have a Wii. That is a huge downgrade in graphics. I got Tiger Woods 2011. Wow, time warp to the early 2000's. The motion control is fun, but the graphics are terrible. Heck, the new iPhone actually has similar graphics power to the Wii. Yet I love me some Mario, Metroid, and Zelda, plus my buddies that are not into video games like the Wii sports games. Fun drunken nights playing those stupid games.

With the new line of Direct X11 line of video cards I think most pcs can now do greater than 1080p resolution. Just look at these videos. I've never seen a console come close to doing anything like this.

The funny thing is, there are some cool new graphics techniques that I like with DX11, but IMO the best one is circles that look like freaking circles and not polygons. That has always bothered me, and the one thing that stuck out big time with DX11.

here is a perfect example....

Regarding controllers, yes the 360 controller is better fitted to most people's hands.

For the PS3 I purchased the trigger extenders for $4 and they made a world of difference for me. I thought the PS3 controllers were too small and awkward for my hands, but the trigger extenders made them a lot more tolerable.

-------------

PC gaming. I really prefer PC gaming, but I quit trying to keep up with the hardware upgrades about 3-4 years ago. Hell, a top of the line video card will cost you the same or more than a PS3 or XBox 360 elite.

I imagine Diablo III will be the last game I ever play on the PC (if it's ever released).

Has anyone ever tried those analog stick extenders? They are supposed to be more precise for FPS games. Being an extender customer, I thought you might have picked those up too.

Haven't picked up the stick extenders, but I play BFBC2 and I've considered buying them.

That would be my only real reason for them, particularly since you have to choose between accuracy & useful speed. I opt for accuracy, but that makes for some slow turning, especially in tanks. Those extenders might let me use higher sensitivities without turning into a jitterbug.

I prefer PC gaming as well, but like you said, keeping up with the hardware is a pain. I built my machine about 4 years ago, and now i feel like it is totally out of date. I wish there was a much easier way to get the hardware upgrades then shelling out $1000-2000 for a new machine every 4-5 years, or even $500+ for a new graphics card and more RAM.

My PC gaming has gone down over the past year just because i can't find the time anymore to sit down and play for multiple hours straight. Console gaming makes it alot easier, you sit down turn it on, and your playing a game online in a few minutes and the game ends pretty fast.

I also feel like Diablo may be my last PC game. I don't have the time to play a true MMOs anymore (just canceled my WoW subscription last month) even though i love to play them.
