After months – if not years – of speculation and rumor, Dave Metlzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WCW legend and former TNA wrestler Steve "Sting" Borden has signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. Sting's new deal will include television time, but at present it is unknown when "The Icon" will make his on-screen debut, and how frequently he will be used.

Reports coming in prior to WrestleMania XXX called for Sting to face The Undertaker in some kind of match, most likely at next year's WrestleMania in Santa Clara, CA. However, following the Deadman's now-infamous loss to Brock Lesnar this past weekend, that match-up seems more unlikely. There was a rumor going around earlier this year of WWE bringing Sting in as an authority figure on Monday Night Raw, similar to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Bret Hart and many others being used as general managers, commissioners, etc.

Sting made his last televised appearance for TNA Wrestling at January's Genesis live special edition of Impact Wrestling on Spike TV, prior to his contract with the company expiring. His signing with WWE could be seen as a major deal, as Sting is well known for being the last wrestling legend of the modern era, who has never worked for Vince McMahon.

The thread title should be updated. We seem to talk about more than just "old school WWF." Just saying.

as for Mania in the Shoe. Like ulu said, the turkeys would be done in the Diva's matches.
Folks that don't donate really shouldn't talk about what should or shouldn't be done, especially when the people that change shit upon request do so for free, on their own time.

Sting has indeed signed a deal with WWE. There's no word yet on details regarding what role he will play but he is scheduled to be on TV, but not right away.

It's said that the deal has been close to being done for a while but now it has been signed. Sting's assumption was that he would work with The Undertaker, which many expected, but that's up in the air with Taker's future now in question.

The deal includes Sting being on television, but whether that’s as a regular character or just to build for one match at next year’s WrestleMania, that isn’t clear. He obviously won't be a full-time wrestler.

I could see Taker still doing a match with Sting...but it would a TERRIBLE match

New York hosted it outside 2 years ago.. So it's been done

Forgot about that. It was a low of 40 that day, high of 52 according to reports. Saturday night it was actually 28 degrees. However, I just saw somewhere else that even if it would have snowed, the show would go on. They had a heated ring, which is the first time they've ever had to do that for Wrestlemania of course. So, it could work in the Shoe after all it looks like:

It would be ugly. A 56 year old Sting is not going to be able to carry a match and make Taker look good like HBK, HHH, and Punk were able to do the last 5 years.

This is pretty accurate. As iconic as Taker is, he really needs a good technical wrestler to make his matches work well. That is, of course, unless you're fine with 300 punches/slaps being thrown in a 15 minute match. Reminds me of Taker's matches with Kane, or any other big guy. They never go over very well, unless they're able to tie some gimmick into the match to keep it more entertaining.

Referee Chad Patton did not know that The Undertaker would be losing to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX. He was told Taker was winning but the rule every referee is told is that if the guys don't kick out, you continue the count. Right after the match ended, Lesnar whispered in Taker's ear, "Thank you."

Apparently the decision to end The Streak was finalized on March 31st. Only a few people knew the outcome before WrestleMania Sunday. The group of people that knew were most likely Vince McMahon, Taker, Lesnar, Paul Heyman, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. None of the agents were aware. The actual script for the show did not have a finish listed but this didn't raise any red flags because that's not unusual for WrestleMania and it wasn't the only match that didn't have a finish listed.

Whether or not The Undertaker is done, Vince was going on the assumption that this was his last match and he could either win or lose. McMahon chose the idea that it's better to lose on your way out. One person close to the situation said Vince talked Taker into losing. Another person, who would also be in the know, described it as Vince making the call and Taker agreeing, and that he wasn’t talked into doing something he didn’t want to do. Losing was not Taker's original decision but he was in on it and never protested the decision. Perhaps, like he thought in 2010, if he was going to lose, maybe he thought Lesnar was the guy to lose to.

There were many people within WWE very unhappy about The Streak ending but couldn't say so publicly.

Wouldn't be surprised if Heyman didn't even know; the way he acted was brilliant, it looked natural like it was a genuine shock. If he knew - give that man an Oscar for his performance. Heyman's work the following Monday was epic as well; hopefully his work with Cesaro pushes him to a title shot soon, wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Personally I think the Streak went on too long, and I think they wasted it on Brock. Obviously other than this year, Undertaker's WM matches have had predictable finishes. The challenger gets a head of steam, provides a bunch of close calls at the end, Undertaker inexplicably kicks out. His eyes roll in the back of his head, he goes all badass, and then drops the Tombstone for the finish. Every year they build it up as being the year it would end, the payoff took too long. If you ask me, they should have had Orton get the win when he had the "Legend Killer" gimmick. That would have gotten him over big. Instead, Taker wins, and Orton was forced to build his career much slower.

Which brings me to the point of wasting the Streak on Brock. Brock has been, and always will be, the next big thing. That was even the slogan they used for him during his first WWE run. Brock really didn't need any help getting over or establishing his dominance. However, if Taker would have jobbed the Streak to a newer up and comer, a future Cena or something, it would have given that person a huge push. You do that for a heel, and they can hang their hat on that for the rest of their career. Every time they come out "I beat Taker" and then huge boos come from the crowd. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

I still think it benefits quite a bit - this helps give support to Brock coming back and getting a seemingly out of nowhere title shot at SummerSlam most likely against Daniel Bryan. Yes! Vs. The Beast Incarnate; intriguing enough.

Honestly, the matches with HBK and HHH I thought were amazing because I honestly thought one of them would be the one to break it. That's what made all the near falls so amazing.

Losing to Brock was nothing more than shock value. The best option would have been losing to CM Punk last year when Punk was on top of the world.

I don't know. Maybe with Heyman on the mic backing him Brock can take advantage of beating the Streak, but I think it would have been more beneficial to an up and coming heel that can speak on the mic. I don't think Brock needed it. He was over before he left the company, he had a short but successful run in MMA, and he's got Heyman. Brock's only weakness is the fact he has no charisma, none. He's an absolute beast, he's a tremendous technical wrestler based on his previous amateur success, but he's just never been very good on the mic. Beating Taker's Streak doesn't change that, it's just another note on a resume of Superstars he's dismantled.
