WR Torrance Gibson (Green Bay Blizzard)

Why "save" him? For what? If he indeed does redshirt, you think he'll still stay here for 3-4 more years?

I think that as soon as he gets his black stripe removed Meyer will put him in. Even if he doesn't start playing for another few games he still will contribute for half the regular season and the post season (up to three more games), giving us a much-needed deep threat. This would not only help us out on offense this season but will prep him for the next 2-3 years...
I don't have any problem playing him, even late in the season for the first time. That said, I expect that Gibson will be here until eligibility expires. He's a bit raw and the talent that exists alongside him will likely make him one of MANY weapons and not a focal point that would enable him to head to the next level early.

I think if he reaches anywhere close to his potential as a WR (about which many in practices have been raving), I don't see him sticking around when his three years are up. A 6'4" WR with blazing speed and outstanding moves is something many NFL teams covet. That's of course if he actually does reach that potential during his first three years. He may stay fours years, but I wouldn't bank on it...

Yeah, I get that his potential is high. Frankly, most of this team is like that though....which is why my guess is that odds are greater than 50% that he's here for the duration. Again, I'd play him in a heartbeat at any point in the season if it helped us win, but I'm dubious of the argument that he won't be around. Chances are, if he's not around, it is because something else went wrong.

Is it a done deal that he's not returning to the QB room? I could see "saving" him if he's going back to QB -- where he's very raw and may not get an opportunity until 2017, possibly even 2018?
Otherwise, all about seeing him sooner than later. If he's an improvement on existing personnel, pull the trigger. If he'd just be getting WR time in blowouts only to go back to QB... meh ?

Put me in the camp that will be very surprised if he is red shirted for any reason other than his injury and/or development doesn't allow him to play. No way Urban simply passes on playing him if he is able to perform.

I mean don't get me wrong I would love to see him play because while I'm not at practice I have a feeling he would be a top guy on offense immediately if he played. However are we going to put him in a position to make plays? If it means burning his red shirt so he can run down on punt then count me as a guy who wants him to red shirt. If it's to take the top off a defense then no doubt you play him, but knowing UFM he won't be put in that position until he does something to prove himself (which with his size I think is silly to not give him a shot, but I'm not a 3x NC coach).

The kid was adamant about getting a chance to play QB, but went to Meyer to say he'd be willing to move to WR (albeit temporarily) just so he can get on the field. There's no way Meyer is going to pass up on having a WR who has shown so much in practice against the ones once he feels Gibson is ready. Dollars to donuts that the week that Gibson gets his black stripe removed he sees the field that weekend...

The only reason imo he hasn't seen the field is injury. He was absolutely exploding in fall camp and word was that he would get on the field plenty. I do think he will add another element to our offense when he is fully healthy. No way he redshirts in a championship run if he can help us in any way.
