WR Torrance Gibson (Green Bay Blizzard)

For as similar as they are in talent there is a huge difference in his hype among tOSU fan base than there was for TP. Maybe that's a good thing. One thing for sure, as much as I loved Tress, something tells me if Gibson comes here it will be better for the player and better for the program under Urb than the TP experience was.
Agree on both points. The less hype, the better. And, well, Nick Siciliano. Enough said.

He has a better throwing motion than TP, that's for sure. Strong arm. The physical tools are there to be a great quarterback. You just need to get him into the classroom from Day 1.

The toughest choice will be the decision whether to redshirt him. You don't want to waste a year of classroom development, but how do you keep a guy like that off the field who can help you in so many other ways?

At the QB position there's a 100% chance he'll be redshirted next year. He'll be 3rd or 4th on the depth chart and he still has plenty to develop as a QB.
No. He would be used in "wildcat" or "Tebow" packages. You don't redshirt a kid with that kind of talent. You find a way to utilize him so that he can win games for you.

If he eventually develops into a starting QB, then so much the better.

I like how he is a 4 star now and not a 5 like he's always been lol

I think the main reason is scouts are questioning which position he will play, doubting he will make it as a college QB so there is some hesitation with ranking him a 5*. I say a great athlete is a great athlete regardless of what position he plays and should be ranked accordingly. And I haven't seen too many better pure athletes in this class than Gibson.

For a wide variety of reasons the anticipation of his announcement seems much less hyped than it should be. Kid is an elite talent. Just based on physical ability there is a big disconnect between his potential and the general excitement surrounding his recruitment. At least that's what Urb has shown me thus far and to some degree TG seems like he might buy in better than I originally thought. In regards to other talent at the QB position during his career, should be sign with tOSU, if he was smart he would just sit back and soak it all in and let himself develop. If ever there was a case of "trust the coaches" it would be with the staff and TG. Regardless of position, he has the potential to be a great one. Here's hoping for the best!

I think the biggest factor was that we were all looking for Troy's successor and not a lot of talent left behind. Boeckman was serviceable through 2008 but I remember the general feeling seemed to be near-panic if we missed on big QB recruits that year. We were pretty desperate to land a star QB that year and it quickly zeroed in on Pryor.
Whereas now Ohio State is doing a lot better with QB depth. Cardale, JT, Burrow, Clark in the pipeline... decent shots at Gibson and Haskins are more about smoothing it all out, making sure there's always several guys who can step in, and creating competition to find the best guy.

He'll probably be 5th or 6th. Yes, we'll have SIX quarterbacks on roster. Braxton/JT will be 1/2, then Cardale 3, most likely Collier 4, and then Gibson/Burrow 5/6.

If Braxton does not come back next year I would agree 100% about not redshirting him due to the wildcat package. But if he is then that is not needed. He could be a wildcat package guy as a redshirt freshman. But regardless, if you don't think you'll have a guy for 5 years then redshirting is pointless. And I don't see him staying 5 years. I guess he could, but someone with his athleticism could switch to WR his second year and be a 1st round talent by his 3rd or 4th year.
