WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Hey StadiumDork, there's no "police" hear...when someone makes a goofball post, they should expect an appropriate response. Purposely punting the ball out of bounds or totally away from Ginn resulting in a 20-some yard punt is not a "game-plan". And if you "don't give a shit about dinging", why do you have your rep shut off?

Lets get back on track. How would you stop Ginn?

OK, now your the other teams coach. How would you take Ginn out of the game or at least limit his chances to beat you? I would not kick to him! Let him try to beat me as a WR, which he is still learning.

WR-- Definitely jam him and physically abuse him up to and sometimes across the lines of fair play...play inside leverage and bust him laterally to the sideline and rely on a safety to give help in the fade zone. He must be hit on every play...regardless if he has the ball or not.

PR--This depends on the field position, score, etc...however, directional kicking, "skyrockets," and even rugby-type squibs would need to be in play...

Another Ted Ginn Question

The big question this upcoming season is if Ted Ginn will play corner.....but thats not my question.

i am wondering if he will be returning kickoffs?

if he does i can almost guarantee that he brings at least 1 back for a touchdown.

any news?

You should be coaching football somewhere.

I say you go man with a LB on Ginn (But, I have a hidden agenda - of course I'm not being serious.)

I think Teddy Ginn could eclipse that, but realize he has a whole year or two less in which to do it (if he goes pro). Ginn returned a couple kicks but was moved back to PR only after one game. I don't think I would have wanted Ginn taking KR's last year when we had holmes and Hall to do it (who are much more bulked up). This year, its a toss up. He's gonna be scary, and will tear up Texas unless they bring in some outside help for special teams (they'd be retarded not to do so) coaching-wise.

He will still be a tiny liability with his size, but then again many of the best KR's are undersized even in the NFL. I'm pretty sure you'll see him start there for the first two games at least.

The days of a punt returner winning games by himself are gone!

I think the days of a PR winning games all by himself, Woodchuck , Tim Brown, and that other scUM player, you all know who I mean, those days are gone. Although player on player mismatches will still happen, just not as often. Ginn, will get his punt return for TD record no matter what, his effect on games will be less dramatic. Field position, field position, field position! Tressel's game.

This is where I am missing you in this thread...you are throwing out these mixed opinions. How is Ginn's effect on a game less drastic if he is altering the field position? If that is JT's game, then that is a major influence on an outcome.

Player mismatches are dictated by an offense...Martz and Chow have made millions with that game. Tendencies, motion, pre-set shifting, certain route combinations can all set up mismatches...Teddy Ginn's presence sets up a mismatch for someone else.

I think you are both right and the difference is whether Ginn's effect will be direct or indirect. Unfortunately, while the effect may be the same, if it is indirect, Ginn will not be recognized from an individual-awards and -accolades standpoint, and people further down the road accross the nation won't appreciate the influence he had on the game of college football.

Catfish explained my point better!

I think Catfish probably explained my position better than I! Lots of people will be looking for Ginn to make a lot of big plays this season. I don't see it happening. Ginn's effect will be more on field position. Troy Smith could have the biggest impact because the ball will be in his hands every play. As for Ginn and the punt return record, isn't he just a couple TDs short of the record book? I'll see what I can find about the exact record for TDs on returns.

According to the NCAA, Ted Ginn has 4 TD returns. The current record is only 8!
Record is held by Antonio Perkins of Okalahoma, he is off to the pros! With at least 2 years more to play at OSU, he should be able to break that record. And ,
he currently has the record for punt return average at 25.6 yards avg. Nobody is even close! The next best is under 18 yards per return! So even with teams trying to gameplan around him as a punt returner. I figure he should still get the
punt return for TD record. I do think his return yardage will drop.

Ginn, Holmes and Gonzo and this bunch will make Troy Smith a Heisman candidate! This year!

Ginn should be returning kickoffs in addition to punts. He took one back for a TD in the Army AA game and almost returned another. And that was against the best HS players in the country...in fact, the opposing team's special teams unit was probably as good or better talent-wise as many college teams' units.

I've got a question that has to do with Ginn, slightly. Though, it has more to do with many college athletes - pro athletes, too. And I'm sure the answer varies as widely as the range of the players' personalities do.

Does / did Santonio Holmes feel jealous or any other negative emotions toward Ginn for "stealing" his spotlight? I got the feeling Holmes thought last year was supposed to be his year, and it was shaping up to be that way. Then Ginn busted on the scene and nothing was written anymore about Holmes.

I'm asking specifically about those two. Does anyone know about Holmes? I'm also asking about other times when a season is supposed to be someone's time to shine, and someone else steps in.
