WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Ginn Jr. - The Psychic Buckeye?

Twice now before big plays or days in East Lansing Ginn has predicted a huge return and score.
Freshman year predicted the break-out performance.

Ginn makes good on his prediction to Gonzalez

EAST LANSING, Mich. ? Too bad Ted Ginn Jr. couldn?t play all of his games in Spartan Stadium. If so, he might have been more of a factor in the Heisman Trophy race.
He got back in stride on punt returns yesterday, taking one back 60 yards for what coach Jim Tressel called a "gigantic" touchdown in the second quarter of Ohio State?s 38-7 win over Michigan State. Ginn did it in the same place where he had his collegiate coming-out party two years ago, scoring on a punt return, a run and a pass.
"For some reason I feel like this is my home stadium," Ginn said.
It certainly will find a big place in his biography. The punt return was the sixth for a touchdown in his career, breaking the Big Ten record. The record was held by Iowa?s Tim Dwight.
It also made Ginn something of a prophet. On the sideline before the play, he had a prediction for fellow receiver Anthony Gonzalez.
"That was the play today, in my eyes, because we were sitting on the sideline and Ted said, ?I?m gonna score. I?m gonna score,? " Gonzalez said. "He emphatically said, ?Everybody get going. Get up. Everybody stay excited.?
"And sure enough, he catches the ball and goes. Unbelievable. People from Glenville (High School in Cleveland), they can see the future I guess. It?s crazy."
In reality, Ginn saw Michigan State?s Brandon Fields having to punt out of his own end zone, which meant the Spartans would be concerned about a block. Then, even though the punt went 51 yards, Ginn also saw Gonzalez, who had dropped back with him, shielding away Michigan State?s Kendell Davis-Clark, who was coming up the middle.
"I was just so happy Gonzo picked up that one block for me, and when I looked up, I saw all of those green shirts (to the right) and I thought, ?I can?t go that way,? " Ginn said. "I just cut it back, found the lane and took it."
Gonzalez hardly touched the Michigan State player, but that wasn?t the point.
"Any time you give Ted a chance, something good is going to happen, and that was no exception," he said.
Looking up and watching Ginn zoom down the sideline, "It?s pretty cool," Gonzalez said. "I dive and try to hit my guy, and I turn my head and it looks like he?s already 60 yards down the field. It?s like, ?Unbelievable. How did you get there that fast?? "
People had been asking through the first six games this season where his magic had gone, but Ginn said that wasn?t on his mind after the game.
"I?m just happy first for the win," he said. "All week they?ve been talking about the ?98 team getting upset by Michigan State, and the ?74 team, and all that stuff. We just came out and we took it to them early and had fun."

GONZALEZ OR GINN

Two NFL scouts laughed at the notion that wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez is a better pro prospect than Ted Ginn Jr. Gonzalez is more polished as a receiver, but NFL teams can't coach speed.

Also, no one expects Ginn to return to Ohio State for his senior season next year. Gonzalez has a tougher to decision to make. One of the reasons he is having such a productive year is Ginn. Opposing defenses pay more attention to Ginn, which gives Gonzalez more opportunities. His draft stock may be higher this year than next year, when he will become the focal point of defensive game plans and have a first-year starter at quarterback for the Buckeyes.

Ginn finally brings one back

10/15/2006, 3:00 p.m. PT The Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? What's brewing today with the 2006 Ohio State Buckeyes ...
BUCKEYE BUZZ:@ Welcome back, Teddy Ginn.
The Buckeyes WR had been having a fine season but hadn't returned a punt for any sizable yardage in the team's first seven games. He was just waiting for his favorite opponent."For some reason I feel like this is my home stadium," Ginn said after returning a punt 60 yards for a second-quarter touchdown in a 38-7 victory over Michigan State. His sixth career punt return for a TD is the most ever at Ohio State or in the Big Ten.
Before that return, fellow wide-out Tony Gonzalez said Ginn was bouncing up and down on the sidelines, excitedly saying that all of his teammates needed to get up because he planned on scoring.
"People from Glenville (Ginn's high school in Cleveland), they can see the future, I guess," Gonzalez said with a chuckle.
MAGIC NUMBER:@ 14_consecutive games the Buckeyes have scored at least 24 points, the longest streak since 1968-69; and 14 is also Ohio State's winning streak, longest in the nation.

Correction: With one more Ginn will tie the career record at 7; 2 more and he will own it by himself.

Best Buckeye was correct on this one. The NCAA Division I career record for punt return TDs is 8. Wes Welker of Texas Tech from 2000-03, and Antonio Perkins of Oklahoma from 2001-04.

I have seen recent articles that said the record is 7, but that's simply not accurate.

My apologies to Best Buckeye then. I looked it up on the NCAA's website and they had 7 listed. Thanks for correcting me.

"The Heisman ... in my eyes, I never was fighting for the Heisman," Ginn said. "The Heisman is a good award to win, but the national championship is way bigger than that."

There may be better receivers, but Teddy is a COMPLETE player!

I want to see him get the punt return record, he deserves that!

Football: Ted Ginn has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week on special teams.

Ginn Jr. shattered the Big Ten record with his sixth career punt return touchdown, a 60-yard sprint on his only return of the game at Michigan State to give the Buckeyes a 17-0 lead in the second quarter. The junior wideout broke the conference record he previously held with Iowa?s Tim Dwight, who recorded five punt return scores from 1994-97.

Ginn is now just two touchdowns shy of equaling the NCAA career record of eight punt return scores held by Texas Tech?s Wes Walker (2000-03) and Oklahoma?s Antonio Perkins (2001-04).

The Cleveland native picks up Big Ten special teams weekly accolades for the third straight season, after being honored twice in 2004 (Nov. 6 and 20) and on Oct. 24, 2005. His four career special teams weekly awards are tied for the second-highest total in Big Ten annals.
