WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

pittman was listed at anywhere from 190 to 198 coming in to osu. thomas had a combine weight of 171. that's quite the big difference.

Wrong. Pittman was about 175-180 lbs. He bulked up in the offseason for his sophomore year and got up to 195 before finishing his junior year at around 205 lbs.

Given what the staff has told him, shouldnt Lamaar's questions be more along the lines of How can I improve my route running? and How can I help convince Terrelle Pryor to commit so I have the top QB in the country throwing to me?

...and Lamaar would probably be in the 180's on opening day if he was a Buckeye. (Not to mention I doubt Pittman was pushing 200 when he enrolled).

Lighter yes, but given his style I dont think he needs to be as heavy as a Pittman.

Not trying to be a jerk but I have to ask this...has anyone thinking Lamar is a potential every down RB in the Big 10 seen his film? He looks a few biscuits away from 170 on film, regardless of what he is listed at. He plays very light and is not an in between the tackles type of guy. He is best suited at slot all the way imo and it would be a waste of his abilities to stick him at RB primarily. Furthermore, who thinks Lamar is going to be an every down back over Torrence? Couple these together and I think it's obvious why we are recruiting Lamar as a WR, possibly sticking him at the RB spot occasionally to trick the D. If he gets put anywhere other than WR at OSU it will likely be at corner.

No one is saying he will be a pure running back, but he could easily pick up the plays Mo Wells is getting right now, since if we get him, he'd be the only player like that on the roster.

Well that I can agree with but he is so fast we have to get him on the field in other ways as well, so I think his primary position is slot. It just appeared that people were saying he would get up to 190-210 and get 20-25 carries a game, which likely won't happen.

Beat me to it...

Agree. Always nice to have that "scatback" option available...

I think he'd primarily be a WR, but I definitely see screens and reverses in his future as well, hence him lining up in the backfield and getting carries from time to time.

Imagine that draw play with Mo Wells with a faster Thomas.

Which brings us back to the one sticking point with Thomas and OSU...if one staff is selling him on a Mo Wells-type roll (a kid who is FINALLY getting meaningful carries but is still not happy because they are typically coming either few and far between or if they are coming they are in the fourth quarter) and another staff is selling him on being an every down back, which one is more attractive?

I don't get a warm feeling about this.
I think he's really torn and could go either way.
If we don't get him you think Pead could fill his role? He seems to have some moves to average the yardage he's been putting up. Is the problem competition or grades that he has no offer?I know this is not a pead post just thought I'd ask.

If we don't get him, I think Devon Torrence stays in this role and we go after Chris Fields next year to fill it. Just my opinion though, but with the available scholarships now decreasing by two after giving Lisko and Thoma each one, I don't think Pead would get an offer.
