WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

Someone(recruiter) must really be pushing the RB thing with him.
A shame and a lie as he is too small to play RB in the NFL. Or even college.
But, that's the name of the recruiting game; tell em what they want to hear.

I do love what he is saying about how comfortable he says he is while hanging out with all of the players and recruits at Ohio State. It seems comfort level with the players and staff aways plays the biggest part in one's decision.

I'm really not a big fan of small RBs but from the videos Lamaar shows great burst and could possibly be a great small back. He's listed at 5'11" 181 which is really small but at around 190-200 I think if OSU used him as a RB he would be very dangerous if he maintains that speed.

It's because he's not. Not to mention even if you felt he was at this very moment he can most certainly add weight.

Exactly, I think we have a certain speedy freshman running back who managed to put on about twenty pounds after showing up for summer camp. It's the beauty of a good college strength, conditioning, and speed program. The players get bigger, faster, stronger, and overall better.

McGuffie and Thomas are very similar in size...the staff didn't want Sam as a RB so why would they want Lamaar at RB? The staff obviously thinks that WR is the position where Lamaar could help OSU the most. It would not shock me to see him get some carries/catches on bubble screens and things like that out of the Shot-Ginn/Saine formation, but I do not see him ever being an every down back in the Big 10, and it looks like the staff feels the same way.

By Farrell...again says the OSU trip stood out a little bit because of the other recruits that were at the game.

he measured in at the scout.com combine at 5'10.5'' 171 lbs.

i have a hard time believing that a kid who's game is predicated on speed and elusiveness, is going to put on the 30lbs needed to be an every down back in the big ten and not sacrifice some of what got him to the dance.

What's going on(buy other recruiters) is like an old car salesman tactic.
You see your chances are slim for a sale, so you confuse the "buyer", you lie, in hope that the "buyer" will be so confused, so torn that you get lucky. :shake:

We are honest with our recruits and it pays dividends. While we may not land some big recruits because of it, we sometimes end up with a better player that just wanted to be a Buckeye. It's an ethical approach that makes Ohio State football what it is under JT and that translates to success on the field. You get it done off the field and you will get it done on the field because OSU will always bring in athletes one way or another. As far as Thomas goes, I really want to land him and he could add a dimension to our offense. Think of all the mismatches...you have defenses worrying about Stoney and the DB's serious size disadvantage and where he will line up, DeVier is a homerun threat and you can't double him because of Stoney, Torrence is also a homerun threat that can run and catch, you have the Block O paving the way, the D-Line is going to have trouble rushing the passer with the Block O, and they are especially going to have problems if that passer is Terrelle Pryor...then add Thomas lining up here and there with his amazing speed and your going to drive a defense nuts with that kind of diversity. Not to mention possible additions such as Floyd or Scott. However, if we lose Thomas because he gets "Zooked", I am content with the aforementioned and we will be just fine. He is not going to be an every down back in the Big 10 with his frame imo. He could add the weight possibly but he just appears to have a body type that isn't adept to gaining weight. Anyways, I am glad he had a good time and hopefully he becomes a Buckeye.

There can be a nice balance between the weight gain and "sacrificing" any part of his game.

If Pittman can be an everydown back eventually in the Big 10, so can Flash. Do I think he can come in as a freshman and do it? No. Eventually, yes.

pittman was listed at anywhere from 190 to 198 coming in to osu. thomas had a combine weight of 171. that's quite the big difference.

Agreed. Thomas doesn't need to weigh 200 pounds to be effective in the Big Ten, not if we utilize him correctly(and I think the staff will be prepared to do that after they learned to use Mo Wells correctly).

With his speed and natural abilities, he'd be fine at his current size, but I think his ideal weight would be around 185.
