WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

I don't see a scenario in this world or in any other where Pead gets another look from the staff, short of DeVoe spontaneously combusting...that ship has sailed regardless of what any other recruits decide.

Moving on and back to Thomas...

I just hope he realizes what we did with Ginn, and now Small and most likely Saine, in that we created our own formations for him/them... the "Shot-Ginn." I just rewatched his videos and he does show very nice hands and the ability to get down field and catch the bomb. I wish Lamaar the best wherever he chooses, though it's pretty obvious I would like him in Columbus.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - From the Road: Carrying the load

Full weekend for Friendly duo: Fort Washington (Md.) Friendly dominated Crossland 36-0 this past weekend and athlete Lamaar Thomas rushed nine times for 122 yards. Thomas took an official visit to Ohio State following the game and came away as impressed as he expected. The Buckeyes are the team to beat but Thomas will take an official visit to Illinois this weekend and might trip to Tennessee before making a decision in October.

Weekly recruiting roundup
Here?s your weekly roundup of Maryland football and basketball recruiting news.

Starting with football ?

? Fort Washington Friendly athlete Lamaar Thomas is arguably the most talented high school football player in the state ? and would likely be the crowning jewel of Maryland?s 2008 class, should he commit.

Maryland seems to have a legitimate shot at landing the 5-foot-10, 178-pounder, cracking his top three along with Ohio State and Illinois.

But not only have the Buckeye coaches clearly made Thomas a top priority, the 11-man OSU recruiting class has done its part to make the wide receiver recruit its 12th member.

When the "Brew Crew" decided that they needed to show up in full force last weekend for Lamaar Thomas, it was no surprise to find Ben Buchanan at the game doing his part for his team. Buchanan takes his responsibility as a teammate very seriously.

"I was there last weekend to help make Lamaar Thomas feel at home," Buchanan said of last week's visit. "He seemed like a great kid and after talking with Brewster and the rest of the guys, I knew I wanted to help out any way I could. It was important for all of us to show up to make Lamaar feel good about Ohio State and the people he might be playing with??

Buchanan, a kicker, was OSU?s first commit of the 2008 class, and the ?Brew Crew? refers to the Buckeyes? class, led by five-star offensive lineman Michael Brewster.

Probably the most important thing to note about the Thomas recruitment is the difference of opinion between the Terrapin and Buckeye coaching staffs on where he should play in college. Maryland likes Thomas at running back, while Ohio State wants him at wide receiver.

Spoke with a md source recently. As always, take it FWIW (this report is noticeably less optimistic than some from osu insiders):

The summarized version:

MD visit put them in lead, OSU visit restored OSU's lead. Like earlier, seems to be in love with 'fresh' team/visit. ILL basically out of it, just not publically (kudos to Jeff earlier in this thread).

Handicapped to OSU if decides soon, but tight race. MD has strong angles, RB, and local star... which resonated with MD-favoring family. But fam will let him decide and support it.

1) It's a longstanding practice on BP to link what you've found.
2) Free boards in general are chock full of random rumors from unverified posters.
3) Here is that thread

Great news...there is a story in this saturday's News-Gazette thats gonna talk about flash..we just finished a phone interview with him on the phone and he is very excited to be visiting C-U this weekend. He gave some great insight on his recruitment and it should be a fun read.
I feel good about this one :) he spoke about his decision but thats pretty much all I can say right now
he said he's already made his decision but didnt say what school (duhhh) but the I can tell by his voice he's real excited to be here hes bringing a friend from back home and will be here first thing tommorow morning. I feel really good about this one but im gonna knock on wood
I'm with BuckDiego. Does this sound like a real writer and reliable source? Or an exciteable fan?

Unless something changed in the past week, tOSU is out.
I'd be interested in knowing if the Ermann statement about tOSU really making a move happened in the last week or not.
Because if not, its a two horse battle at this point.
Yeah, that sounds like someone with their finger on the pulse. :roll2: No need to check on whether an impressionable kid like Lamaar would have been swayed by a visit to OSU.

....
Let's contrast that with an established source in Scout.com's JeffErrmann (MD guy)
OSU has really made a move here. Will be tough to beat the Buckeyes. If he doesn't go there, it'll probably be because he wants to stay home.

Don't shoot the messenger.
Spot on... another MD source provided the same input a day or two later.

I'm not sure what credence I'd put in a Dematha source for this recruit. Kenny Tate attends Dematha while Lamar Thomas is a PG County league player.

:oh:

ORLY! Welcome to BP Lucas!
I'm not claiming there is any direct correlation to Lamaar's recruitment, but I was quietly hoping for Maryland to lose today :ohwell:
I think the Brew Crew put on a welcome for a King last week and no matter how many games Maryland wins and Lamaar attends, they still lost one so far. ... and the thought of playing catch with Terrelle Pryor is non existent at Maryland!

This guy was ahead of the curve on Josh Haden as well... so he seems to have some solid connections in the area.

Scout.com's Jeff Ermann, who earned his stripes with Benn last year, posted the same stance on the Illinois free board.
