I think OSU fans are writing off Lamaar way too quick. Those who would know are saying the same things today that they were before his Illinois visit.

Yeah, not really.A general rule in recruiting is that if you do not get him to commit on his official visit or in home vist, you usually lose the recruit. When will JT visit the family? This month or in January?

Michael Bush was told by Ohio State that he would play running back; Louisville promised him that he could play quarterback; Bush went to Louisville, where he played ... running back.
Brock Bolen was told by Ohio State that he would play fullback; Illinois promised him that he could play running back; Bolen went to Illinois, where he played ... fullback.
And let's not even talk about the promises made to Fred Davis, Petey's Number One Guy....
Better to be honest with a recruit up front than to have a disgruntled player for four years.
KittnertoLloyd;948060; said:Really? The story I remember on Bolen was OSU wanted him to play LB and he wanted the ball in his hands. Remember he committed to Ron Turner, now the Bears offensive coordinator, who ran a very pro style offense. Turner utilized the fullback in both the run and passing game. In fact there are three Illini fullbacks under Turner in the NFL. They are Carey Davis, Jameel Cook and Jason Davis. Bolen transferred when Turner was fired and Zook was hired who brought in the spread an offense that rarely utilizes the fullback.
Edit: After doing some research I guess OSU recruited him as a back, but Turner was fired after Bolen's freshman year and he transferred so it reamins to be seen what would have happened.
As for Thomas I can only say that if he doesn't commit to UI after that visit that nothing will ever make him go to UI. The atmosphere at the PSU game was electric and he saw the immediate playing time that was there for freshman and what his boys from the DC/MD area could do. He came down with another stud from the DC area in Reggie Ellis, who was a high school teammate of Arrelious Benn and Vontae Davis, who I think is pretty much locked up for UI. I noticed he said that he is announcing on ESPNU. Last year UI went 3-0 for guys announcing on tv including 2 on ESPNU and there was even some controversy during Martez Wilson's announcement as his coaching staff contacted the UI SID to help set up the press conference.
Oh, that's it, then. Announcing on TV obviously seals the deal for Illinois. Paint the endzones orange for Lamaar; Buckeyes have no shot.KittnertoLloyd;948060; said:I noticed he said that he is announcing on ESPNU. Last year UI went 3-0 for guys announcing on tv including 2 on ESPNU ...
Having now visited his three finalists (Maryland, Ohio State, Illinois), is Lamaar Thomas getting ready to make his decision? How good should Terps fans feel about their chances? Could he have a Steve Slaton-type impact on whatever team he chooses?
He'll decide within the next three weeks. It's been a whirlwind tour since the beginning of the summer and he wants to relax a bit and focus on his season and taking the SAT this weekend. Right now, Ohio State seems to have the upper hand, but Maryland is most definitely in the mix. I'd be very surprised if he ends up anywhere but OSU or Maryland. He certainly has Slaton-like speed, and I do think he'll likely be a star on the college level.
