WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)
I'm not claiming there is any direct correlation to Lamaar's recruitment, but I was quietly hoping for Maryland to lose today :ohwell:
I know what you mean, but, on the other hand, you also have tOSU jumping up to #4 in the country, and going strong .

I mean the Rutgers win was great for Maryland, but the two teams are on completely different levels right now.

...and now 2-3 weeks of collective breath holding. It seems that none of the Brew Crew know the answer to the WR/RB question either which means to that a) Lamaar is really torn, and b) he's not feeding anyone lip service. In fact, he's been very up front about the question in his interviews.

anyone getting the same suspicion as i am about lamaar...the feeling that maybe we are truly losing this guy because of the willingness to be a rb? i hope im wrong because i think we could really utilize this guy after all of these recent reports, makes me wonder...

Can't blame our staff for being honest and upfront with the kid...

I agree with Mili, if he wants to be somewhere else because he wants to play another position, then that is ok with me...

Why be here, not doing what he wants to do...It is obvious to us as fans that we would do anything to be a part of the tOSU team if we had that ability, but that is not how everyone thinks...

He will have his decision in a couple weeks, we have put our best foot forward, if that is not what he wants then so be it...We move on...If it is great we will utilize him in the many ways that we have shown him we will...

Ditto that. And from what I can see, we indeed, have put our best foot forward. He seems to really like what he sees from tOSU, the coaching staff, and the Brew Crew. He just isn't sure that the position is what he wants. That's fair. And both sides can be honest about what they think is best. The way I see it, both parties seem to have very high respect for each other. ...is as it should be... Good luck to Lamaar Thomas in whatever he chooses. These are hard choices sometimes!

Prescott Burgess was told by Ohio State that he would play linebacker; Michigan promised him that he could play safety; Burgess went to Michigan, where he played ... linebacker.

Michael Bush was told by Ohio State that he would play running back; Louisville promised him that he could play quarterback; Bush went to Louisville, where he played ... running back.

Brock Bolen was told by Ohio State that he would play fullback; Illinois promised him that he could play running back; Bolen went to Illinois, where he played ... fullback.

And let's not even talk about the promises made to Fred Davis, Petey's Number One Guy....

Better to be honest with a recruit up front than to have a disgruntled player for four years.

Whatever the case, what is our back up plan and is there any player that we have in mind that may fill the void that we were going to use Lamaar at should he choose to go to Maryland or Illinois or wherever and play probably the same position that we told him that he would play here?

Who is the next in line with our plan at DB?

Edit: I did read back and see that Pead is an option or ride it this year for a kid next year. But who are the other options? Any on a national stage or from a distance? I see Maryland has some speedsters coming out 2009 also.
