WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

He's taking his officials in Sept and plans to announce at the end of that month..

I'll tell ya right now, that he'll probably be at that Tennessee-Florida game in Gainesville.. that's the type of game and atmosphere that "turns" recruits..

Maybe we can get him in for that Akron or Northwestern game :grr:

I see Illinois has games at home vs Missouri and PSU that month.. not like they will win either

Don't you think there will be a little more that goes into this decision then just which game day atmosphere he enjoys the most?

I don't think it's really the atmosphere, it's just that some kids can get caught up in the excitement of big games, couple that with pressure from coaches to commit, and it can cause some kids to end it right there. With that said, Thomas seems to have everything planned out very strictly(I'm guessing his parents are behind that in part), so I don't think that will be an issue here.

Kids go on visits all the time and get caught up in the atmosphere of the big game.. I dont agree with folks who paint all 16/17 yr old kids as rational and responsible decision makers who sit down and go through a long list of pros and cons of all their schools, while keeping a clear mind..

Bottomline, is that a lot of kids pick schools based on the emotion they feel when at "the big game" or on campus for a weekend...

They get caught up with the recruits, the coaches pressuring them, and the electric atmosphere on campus and in the stadium..

So a trip to UF for that Tenn game would scare me, if that is indeed where Thomas chooses to spend an official visit..

Tressel & Co. specifically do not want kids who would make a lifetime decision based on the atmosphere of a big game. That's why JT tells all of the recruits to go home, think about your decision, and call me back in a week or two. If Recruit X is "blown away" by a rivalry game and simply has to commit to School Y on the spot, then rest assured that that kid won't fit in at Ohio State.

If the atmosphere were the case, then the Texas game 2 years ago and last year's Michigan game would have brought in recruits by the boatload for OSU., So, I agree that more is taken into the decision than the gameday atmosphere. ( If a recruit had any sense anyway.)

As a parent, this would really stick out in my mind. After spending 17 - 18 years raising a son, helping guide him towards being a man, this would reaffirm that the man that I am turning my son over to would be in good hands. Cares about him as an individual and is, in a way, providing a valuable life lesson in that one makes truly important life decisions with rational thought, not emotionally driven reactionary thought.

Sorry to digress away from Lamaar.

Just wanted to bump Lamaar back up the line a little after the good reports about his participation at camp last week.

Maryland has been pretty barren territory for tOSU unfortunately. Penn State gets lots of love from the local media here as, of course, do Maryland and their compatriots in the ACC. Turning this young man into a full-fledged Buckeye would really help future recruiting here. His exploits at tOSU would get DC media attention, reminding future DC-area recruits and their parents that Ohio is only a short drive away.

I'm glad he brought his family with him to camp and that they all had time with JT in his office to talk about the Buckeye family. The meeting's 'family' theme seems to have struck a responsive chord with Lamaar and his folks (par for the course for JT) and BN reports we are now his leader.

Good news all around. Hope the good vibes linger.

BG$

Didn't see this posted...this is the film put up on BG$ the other day. Highlights of Lamaar at QB/RB/WR and they are amazing (not sure if they are new?). This kid can just flat out fly...amazing acceleration to go with top end speed that is just plain deadly. It's been quite awhile since I've seen speed like this on film (the most comparable would be Ginn, Saine, or Harvin). Also, he has good cuts and regains speed so fast afterwords that it's frightening. Good hands and body control as well, so he could certainly be a good WR...you also see how he can turn on a dime and regain speed quickly, as well as explosive hips on one particular catch...he has the tools to be a very good CB as well. My guess is he is never used at RB unless it is on a swing pass or a very occasional outside run to change the pace. My only critique is size...he will have to add some bulk but that won't be too hard to do, so not a problem. It's easy to see why we are in such hot pursuit and hopefully Lamar ends up a Buckeye.

Edit: My reasoning for guessing Lamaar won't play much RB at the next level is simply his frame. He can add some muscle it seems but I don't think he will be able to pack enough weight on to get more than 10 carries a game, especially in the Big Ten.

With limited schollies, makes ya think that LT may be the reason why McGuffie hasn't been offered a scholarship...

Just throwing that out there. No inside info here - just an observation on my part.
