WR/RB Lamaar "Flash" Thomas (transfer to New Mexico)

BG$ - 06/25/07

Ohio State is Thomas's new leader. He loved his visit over the weekend, and became friends with DeVier Posey and three lineman whose names he does not remember (but something tells me that he'll be hearing from them soon...).

He plans to make unofficial visits to Tennessee and Florida, to narrow his list to three schools by the end of the summer, to make official visits to those schools in September, and then to decide shortly thereafter.

Rico Mccoy, AJ Wallace, osu was rumored to have lead for both. Both took their officials, gushed about osu, then ultimately slipped away elsewhere.

I will operate under the assumption that this Maryland player recruitment will be no different, and then be pleasantly surprised if it is.

Both bought the negative koolaid, LJ Sr for Wallace, and Tenn for McCoy (NCAA sanctions).

It will be interesting to see if Illinois can regain the lead. They are somewhat notorious for negative recruiting.

I would like to see osu try to slot themselves for the last official of the three. IMO, that's where things went badly for them with wallace and mccoy. wallace visited psu after his osu official in september. osu lost all momentum. mccoy visited tenn the week after osu, and we saw how that turned out.

I'm with you tsteele...I would love to get Thomas but it is really hard being very hopeful on a Maryland recruit. However, this is a special year of recruiting in the way that the Brew Crew is working so well, something we didn't have with Wallace or McCoy. Either way I'm HIGHLY cautiously optimistic...you couldn't ask for much more after this weekend.

He's taking his officials in Sept and plans to announce at the end of that month..

I'll tell ya right now, that he'll probably be at that Tennessee-Florida game in Gainesville.. that's the type of game and atmosphere that "turns" recruits..

Maybe we can get him in for that Akron or Northwestern game :grr:

I see Illinois has games at home vs Missouri and PSU that month.. not like they will win either

It would be nice to get him. Unlike most of the other speed prospects, I really hope we're recruiting Thomas as a RB. I think he'd be a very good change of pace back, which would be nice to have since M. Wells will be leaving in two years. He could also be an electric WR in the Ginn/Small/Gonzalez mold. Then again, he could be a great cornerback(I haven't seen as much film on him at corner though, so I'm not sure about his potential there). Love these versatile recruits... With that said, I'm still wary of Illinois(Zook is a notorious negative recruiter and Locksley is very influential in the DC/Maryland region), Maryland(hometown school and local pressure), and Tennessee(I've just heard that they're major players for Thomas from a Maryland sports board I frequent).

Good points. In addition, the staff has made Thomas a high priority target, probably moreso than they did with either Wallace or McCoy (believe it or not...).
