WR Michael Jenkins (All B1G, National Champion)

One reception for 62yards and a TD might not sound a lot, but he was one of only 3 players (both teams) to score via reception. Also, when your RB is averaging 10 yards a carry (finished 220 yards on 22 carries), you dont need to the air. Smart play by the coaches IMO.

Good job out there Jenkins, strong way to start the season.

As a Falcons season ticket holder (don't laugh) I can say that Jenks has been 100% professional throughout the past 3 years.

It's clear he struggled when #7 was the quarterback. Although, the can't be blamed for not diving to the ground to catch balls thrown 3 feet in front of him or increasing his vertical leap 70+ inches to catch slant patterns.

He's really settled in with Matt Ryan as QB and is becoming an excellent "big" target for the youngster.

I think the Falcons are going to use Hartsock as a blocking TE only - so Jenks should blossom into a "big target" guy.

Mike was one of the most emotional Falcons after the win on Sunday. He was choked up because he made a big play when it counted but also because he let a ball go through his hands in the end zone in the 3rd quarter that could have put the Falcons up by 13.

As someone who's seen the worst of the worst and the best of the best - Jenks has been a professional and his own hardest critic. He's developed into a good 2nd option for Matty Ice and has a way of making strong catches in traffic when Roddy White is getting double covered.

He's also showing a young Falcon (Harry Douglas) how to work and train in practice. Douglas probably needs to add 10 lbs to his frame -but he's staying after practice to run routes with jenks and the ball throwing machine and had his biggest day as a Falcon on Sunday. Somebody in Scarlett and Gray taught Michael how to work hard - and he's passing it on to our young players!

Go Falcons!

Michael Jenkins finally emerging for Falcons

Former first-round pick got best of ex-teammate DeAngelo Hall

By CARROLL ROGERS

Michael Jenkins wasn?t a fun matchup for DeAngelo Hall on Sunday in Oakland for a lot of reasons.
Not only did Jenkins beat his old Falcons teammate and friend for a 37-yard touchdown in a 24-0 rout, he wasn?t one to bite on much jibber-jabber, either.
Jenkins said their only real exchange came on their first play from scrimmage together after the touchdown, when Hall gave him a ?OK, you got one.?
?I just smiled,? Jenkins said.
Jenkins plays it pretty straight, especially for an NFL wide receiver ? no muss or fuss. At times that means he can blend into his surroundings a little, including the shadow of emerging star receiver Roddy White.
But time after time this season Jenkins has stepped out into the spotlight with big plays ? from Matt Ryan?s first pass as an NFL quarterback, which Jenkins turned into a 62-yard touchdown against Detroit, to his last-second catch to set up the game-winning field goal against Chicago.
Jenkins was back at it Sunday with the second two-touchdown game of his career, and first since Sept. 30 of last year against Houston. He also caught a 27-yarder from Ryan on a corner route.
?I think Michael has done a nice job when he has had opportunities for balls to come his way,? Falcons coach Mike Smith said. ?The defense dictates that. If Matt throws it in his direction, he?s made the play the majority of the time. He?s made some real big plays.?
Falcons wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie had his own theory about Jenkins? day Sunday in which both of his catches went for touchdowns.
?I think that had a little bit of a buddy, a friend-friend rival to it,? Robiskie said. ?He got fired up matched up against his buddy. I guess he figured he had to outdo him.?

Jenks was on both Sports Talk radio networks in Atlanta today talking about how nice it is to play for an organization that supports him and how he loves playing with Matt Ryan and Michael Turner.

It's likely if his production continues, Jenks will get a contract extension at the end of 2008.
