WR Jalin Marshall (Edmonton Elks)

One of the highest rated kids in his class. Many of his classmates went high in the draft. Was obviously a big temptation to join them. But it was a terrible decision. Feel bad for the kid and I'm sure he and the staff wished it turned out different. And it could have. Sometimes you just have to buckle down and take your own path.

The NCAA should allow kids who go undrafted and who have remaining eligibility to return to school.

Even if tOSU were full up on schollies, Jalin could easily find a spot on another top squad. This is just a shame.

He has his chance to make a roster. He wouldn't be the first guy that didn't get drafted to play in the NFL.

Sure, hind sight is 20-20, but if he can play, he will.
I wouldn't call it hindsight. I'd call it foresight. Most on here expected him to go 6/7/UFA. Frankly the difference between the 3 isn't that much and I think I see at least as many UFAs make a roster come fall as 5/6/7 round guys.
The NFL isn't about how good you can be its about how good you are the year you come out. If you can get better in a 4th year of college then best to stay. If you've learned all you can from those coaches then give it a shot. I refuse to think that he had plateaued. I'd imagine he'd have gone in the first 3 rounds next year. I assume urban told him he likely wouldn't get drafted and urban has NFL associate that told him the same. His classmates left early and he was a high ranking high school player, but he went from quater back to half back to slot receiver to wide out. Most players with that many position changes don't leave early.

These kids can always go back to school to finish their degrees. Count me in the minority I guess...but THAT is still going back to school for the reason that really matters. IMHO...

Might not be a bad rule, but what happens when Mr. Irrelevant or someone else fradted in the 240th-250th complains they should be reinstated because they didn't know they'd go so low. Part of the college experience is making your own life decisions and having to live with the consequences...you know, like the "real world".

THIS. It sucks. Kids are freaking slaves to the NCAA. Literally. Not sure what else you can call it.
"Slaves"? Give me a break. The NCAA allows them to leave early if they want, allows them to transfer if they want, and for the schools to educate, feed, and house them at no cost. They also have an informal alumni support network not available to non-athletes for after they graduate/leave school. As I said in my reply to Max above, it's their decision and they have to live with it.

He probably would've been drafted if he came back and put up solid numbers but a 4.6 was always going to keep him out of the top 3-4 rounds
Thomas posted abysmal numbers and went in the middle of the second. There is absolutely no reason Jalin couldn't take over the No 1 receiver role and get 800 yards. Heck he could hit the 1000 mark as the only receiver coming back. His targets would likely double. Jalin is a little faster, but a little smaller. I think he's a better natural athlete than Thomas. He's just more raw. Jalin only played 2 freaking seasons and played QB in high school, you don't learn all you can from a staff this good in 2 seasons. He wasn't even shifted to true wideout until a few games into last season. In spring ball he was playing primarily h back and slot. He still had a lot to learn about intricacies in the position. College may not be the same for an athlete, but it's still a place to learn and get ready for you're career.

As I said in my post above, college gives them the training they need to make millions. Was zeke ready to go to the NFL without college? Bosa? NO. College provided them with the training they needed to get to the next level, and guess what, the university made some money in that effort. The only other way they could get there right now would be for them to spend hundreds of thousands on personal training over several years. Or the NFL could develop a farm system (which would be insanely expensive). Those in the farm system make a pittance and have to live off it. Now they make nothing but are provided with everything they need (no spending cash, but have the necessities). I have a college friend trotting around the minors right now living off about $25,000 a year and isn't provided with room and board and is trying to raise a kid. And that was after 4 years of college. That amount of money would keep my mortgage paid and my lights on, but that's it. That system sucks too. What do the NBA d league players make? Most colleges take a loss on football, but they still do it. You can bet the NFL teams wouldn't take a loss and to pay for it players salaries (among other things) would be cut.

I think we've gotten too far off Jalin. Good luck to him with the J E T S.
